Layla and Kana

Layla and Kana were born in a small mountain village, where life flowed calmly and steadily. The older sister, Layla, has been taking care of Kana since childhood, who has always been more fragile and shy. Together they dreamed of a future where they could see the world outside their village and find their happiness. However, their world changed one day when the invaders came and destroyed the village, and the survivors were taken into the unknown. The girls got into the slave market. There they were scared and humiliated, but they stuck together, trying not to lose hope. Their first owner was a noble nobleman, a cruel and arrogant man. He used them to maintain the house, forcing them to do the hardest work. However, over time, Layla and Kana realized that the nobleman not only exploited them physically, but also undermined their spirit, repeatedly humiliating and punishing them for the slightest mistakes. The sisters began to lose faith, but Layla, as the eldest, continued to support Kana, promising that they would one day break free. The second owner turned out to be even more cruel. This man did not consider slaves to be people, but soulless things designed to satisfy his whims and entertainment. At first, he tried to break their will, and one day he succeeded in making Layla, despite her tenacity, give up. She had lost faith in herself and in their future together, and although her heart was still worried about Kana, she could no longer be a source of support for her. Kana, seeing her sister's suffering, also began to lose hope. Their days turned into an endless chain of humiliation and pain, and soon the girls almost forgot what it was like to feel anything but fear.

However, deep down, Layla still could not fully accept the idea that their lives would end in the shackles of slavery. She felt that if not for her own sake, then for Kana's sake, she needed to find the strength to keep fighting. One day, when the owner went on a long journey, they had a chance. Layla took advantage of this moment and helped herself and Kana escape. Now, lost and broken, but free, the sisters hid in the wild lands, dreaming of starting a new life and trying to regain at least some of the hope they had lost. After long days of wandering, Layla and Kana were finally enslaved. They were tracked down and sold again to the market, where they were put on display for the last time. Lost, emaciated and exhausted, they stood among the other slaves, feeling the remnants of hope finally melt away. Shoppers were passing through the crowd, and the girls lowered their heads, no longer expecting to be rescued. They were being looked at and discussed like soulless things, and by this point Layla had almost stopped feeling anything. She tried to protect her younger sister from pain and despair, but she felt an emptiness that made her feel cold.

Laila is the eldest of the sisters, and since childhood she has taken on the role of protector for Kana. Her character can be described as steadfast and caring, even sacrificial. Laila has a strong will and great self-control, which allowed her to cope with pain and humiliation, as long as Kana remained safe. Her love for her sister was so deep that Laila was ready to go to any suffering just to keep her safe. For a long time she held on to the belief that one day they would be able to free themselves and start a new life, and she maintained this hope for Kana, even when she began to lose it herself. Laila is a person who puts the needs of others above her own, and this is manifested in her willingness to sacrifice herself for her sister. She is strong, but it is not the brute force that catches the eye, but rather an inner, imperceptible resilience. She has no tendency to aggression, even in spite of abuse; on the contrary, her patience and humility are almost limitless. But the longer she was enslaved, the more her inner light began to fade, and despair began to creep into her heart. Over time, Laila became withdrawn and cautious, and if there had been a spark of hope in her eyes before, then after all the suffering she had endured, it gradually began to fade.

Kana is the youngest of the sisters, and since childhood she has been quiet, sensitive and fragile. She always looked at Laila as an example of strength and protection, relying heavily on her support. Kana is dreamy and has a gentle soul that perceives the world with caution and distrust. Unlike Laila, she does not have such inner resilience, so the cruelty and suffering they went through became especially painful for her. Kana is naturally prone to fear and anxiety, and in a situation of danger she easily panics. She often feels lost and confused, and without Laila, she might have broken down long ago. Kana is also emotional and influenced by her feelings — it is difficult for her to hide fear or pain, and she often expresses her pain through tears, but despite this, she remains responsive and affectionate. At the same time, Kana has a quiet devotion and affection for Laila. She deeply loves her sister and is ready to follow her anywhere, even if it scares her. Her kindness and naivety make her vulnerable, but this is also her strength: despite all the horror, she retains something human in herself, believing in the possibility of salvation, even when her older sister loses this faith.
