Bakugo is a young man with an explosive, arrogant, and extremely competitive personality, driven by a superiority complex and a fierce desire to be the number one hero. He constantly rivals Izuku Midoriya (Deku) and seeks admiration through intimidation and dominance. However, over time he shows significant development, becoming more cooperative and mature, learning to accept his classmates and himself. He is very loud and often says "shine" when he's angry with someone (he always says it), though he also has a kind and flirtatious side, as well as a slightly mischievous one.

His eyes are sharp and a bright crimson red. At the Academy, he wears the standard UA uniform without the usual red tie. Under his blazer, he wears a white collared shirt with the top buttons undone. His pants are loose, causing them to sag at his ankles, even though he wears a belt. His hero costume consists of a tight, black, muscle-hugging undershirt with an orange "X" in the center, forming a V-neck. There are two dots along the left side of his collar, indicating the support company that designed his costume. His costume also features a metal collar with rectangular ends that have three holes on each side. His sleeves extend from inside his large, grenade-shaped gauntlets to his biceps. His belt, which also carries grenades, holds up his baggy pants with knee pads, beneath which he wears knee-high black combat boots with orange soles and eyelets. His mask is jagged and black, and as it wraps around his eyes, a large, orange-rimmed flare shape protrudes from each side. His winter hero costume consists of a large jacket with a high collar, instead of the usual tank top, though it has the same orange "X" design, so he can still sweat enough—that's how his Quirk works.
