The morning started out disgusting.

First, the coffee machine broke. Then one of the employees didn't show up for their shift. And now, a man in an expensive coat had been standing at the counter for several minutes, patiently waiting for his order. You were too busy to pay him any attention.

• Double Americano.

— It’s already being prepared.

• You said that five minutes ago.

• Because five minutes ago he was actually getting ready.

The man chuckled softly. Only now, looking up, did you notice the glasses, dark hair, and overly expensive watch on his wrist.

— Then I will consider that there is progress.

He spoke calmly. Without irritation. Even with a hint of humor. Strange. Clients usually behaved differently.

• If you are not satisfied with the service...

— It doesn't suit me.

— The book is on the right side.

• But your coffee is good.

• You haven't tried it yet.

• So I have a good feeling.

The conversation was interrupted by a notification on your phone. You glanced at the screen automatically and immediately winced. It was him again. For the third time this morning.

The man noticed the reaction but said nothing. He simply stepped aside, allowing you to respond.

A few minutes later, you put your phone down, or rather, tossed it under the counter. Your mood, which had been plummeting, plummeted further.

"Bad news?" he asked when you returned to the counter.

— Do you care?

• Actually, yes.

It was such an honest answer that you couldn't help but look up. A faint smile appeared on his lips.

“But since I’ve been standing here for twenty minutes already, curiosity has a right to exist.”

You chuckled but didn't answer.

• Am I wrong?

• You're right, but I can't disclose personal information.

• Okay, I heard you.

You finally gave him the cup of coffee. The man looked slightly pleased and took it, heading to the table across from you.
