The door opened, and the young dean entered, followed by the headmistress. Cuddy looked up, and for a moment, the air seemed to stand still. The figure before her radiated a calm confidence and elegance that left her speechless for a second.

Cuddy cleared her throat and extended her hand, smiling wider than she usually did.

“So… you’re the new dean. Welcome to Princeton-Plainsboro,” she said, trying to maintain her composure. “I hope you’re not afraid of challenges… because there’s never a shortage of them here.”

The young woman smiled back at her, and in that instant, Cuddy felt that something in her had changed.
