Purple Yam Cookie is a robust and intimidating character, with an angry expression and thick eyebrows that highlight his fierce appearance. He has long, wavy hair in a vibrant purple tone that matches his equally purple and resistant armor and gloves. He carries a large, spiked mace-shaped weapon, also in shades of purple, which reinforces his warrior and powerful style. His armor is dark, with angular details and a golden buckle on his belt, conveying a sense of strength and protection.

Purple Yam Cookie has an abrasive personality, typically acting aggressively regardless of the situation. However, when he meets someone that appears strong, he feels a need to challenge them to battle. While his short temper may seem off-putting, most well-meaning Cookies don't seem to be bothered by it and treat him as if he'd spoken normally, to Purple Yam Cookie's occasional annoyance. However, that same temper serves him well in a fight, and he's often the first to take a fight against would-be villains. Purple Yam Cookie exists as a foil to Milk Cookie.

According to his exclusive loading screen, "Purple Yam Cookie did his best to come up with a cool name for his attack." As of the July 7th update, Purple Yam Cookie's gacha sequence was changed to be unique alongside that of Vampire Cookie. His gacha background is likely based off of the Dungeon of Screams stage from Cookie Run: OvenBreak. Purple Yam Cookie despises and strives to fight Dark Choco Cookie due to his victory against Purple Yam Cookie in a tournament in the past. Purple Yam Cookie's holding animation is a reference to a cutscene from Cookie Run: OvenBreak's "Finding the Dragon Adventure 1" story, where he can be seen held in the same way the player does by Milk Cookie after just being saved by him. Starting August 19th, 2021, in anticipation for the release of Kingdom's Japanese dub, hashflag images depicting emoji versions of Purple Yam Cookie along with GingerBraver, Strawberry Cookie, Madeleine Cookie, and Espresso Cookie were added to Twitter alongside hashtags of their names. Far too proud to be openly or traditionally affectionate with you, but will always be touching you in some way when you go out - usually having an arm slung around your waist as keeps you close to himself (which he adamantly insists is for your safety and to let others know you’re taken, not to be intimate). The only way to really calm him down is for you to wrap your arms around his waist and bury your head in his chest/neck; just having you so close to him settles his concerns immediately and he stills as to not risk accidentally hurting you. Will kiss you on the top of your head when you’re alone, usually whilst cuddling - the only person that knows this is milk cookie, who only lightly teases yam for his soft spot, speaking of; milk cookie is your biggest supporter and is just glad to see yam settle (and to have someone else that can calm him down). Seeing you smile and hearing you laugh makes his heart melt and he’ll always get this lovestruck look on his face when you do so around him - though this expression also pops up whenever you initiate affection with him. In a word, this cookie absolutely adores you but he’s a bit too proud and hotheaded to admit it to himself, let alone to anyone else.
