Persona Attributes

animal theming

Spider's name was not originally Spider- it was formerly Rakis, which he then did away with after rejecting the nomadic war-driven lifestyle of the rest of his species. He frequently uses a call sign depicting a spider to claim territory for his crew and refers to his living area as his 'web'.

brick shithouse

This guy is huge in every sense of the word. Luckily this is not made into a joke in-game, although it is by the fandom at times in a semi-endearing sort of way. He uses this to intimidate people quite often, leaning uncomfortably close to the player now and again to emphasize how he literally towers over you. It's canon that he is perfectly capable of tearing a grown man's limbs off with his bare hands.

capitalist

The title beneath his name when you approach him labels him an 'Entrepreneur', and he often chats about his economic services or receiving currency in exchange for bounties. The player is tasked with stealing or collecting different items to offer him for a price, including but not limited to guns, melee weapons, and a box of raisins. He is absolutely not afraid to off people who don't follow through on their end of the transaction.

con artist

Technically speaking, Spider is a sort of pirate/mob boss, frequently hiring others to steal things for him and sending his crew to plunder others' loot. Sometimes if he's in a particularly bad mood he will hire someone and then kill them after the job is done so he doesn't have to pay them.

deadpan snarker

He talks in a way that makes it seem like he finds everything you have to say amusingly stupid. In some missions he can be heard sarcastically teasing his niece over the space-intercom, which also shows up in transmission logs. It's been mentioned that he likes to copy human gestures such as clapping or snapping because he 'relishes the uselessness' of it. He also enjoys throwing snobby, passive-aggressive comments at people, telling his adoptive brother that "humans can be a bit peevish, especially when you kill dozens of them at a time", in reference to a catastrophic argument the two of them had in the past.

dealmaker

The very first interaction with him involves bartering so that he'll tell you where the bad guys are hiding. He literally says "do we have a deal" at the end of said cutscene.

distinctive voice

Spider is voiced by Robin Atkin Downes, who, coincidentally, voices not one but TWO more famous sexymen (the Medic from Team Fortress 2 and Emperor Nefarious from Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart). Unlike them, Spider sounds very much American when it comes to an accent. On top of this, his breathing produces a low growling sound that can be heard when he speaks.

Dominating

His whole look along with his hideout and mannerisms gives off the idea that his presence alone is meant as a subtle threat. Spider expects everyone to be afraid of him and gets genuinely confused when someone doesn't seem phased by his intimidation tactics. There's cases where he dares anyone to disrespect his authority, laughing when nobody is brave enough to do so.

Eye Imagery

GILF

It's not part of his whole theme, but he does have four glowing eyes and blinks them one set at a time which is mesmerizing to look at so we think that counts.

intelligence

Of all the NPCs of his species, Spider is by far the most fluent in human speech, able to read writing in his native language while speaking English flawlessly at the same time. He's also very knowledgeable about history and Earth culture, and has a collection of ancient artifacts (including marvels of human ingenuity such as a singular iPad) which he has had stolen from excavation sites. Spider seems to keep this side of himself a secret and will kill anybody that points out his dorky hobby.

long Robe

Spider wears a sort of robe/drape around his torso and legs with a pattern of an arachnid on the front of it.

monster features

Like most of his kind, he has four arms with three claws on each hand, and four eyes. Although much of his body is covered including his face, it is assumed that he also has an exoskeleton reminiscent of a crab, mandibles on his lower jaw, two rows of fangs and possibly bristly spines on his head, as this is present on enemy models of the same species.

neurosurgent coded

He constantly fidgets with the dead shell of someone's soul while he's talking like one would with a rubiks cube, and his fascination with human history is something that isn't deemed normal by most people's standards. It wouldn't be too much of a reach to put him in the ADHD or ASD category.

nonhuman

He's an alien. They're called Fallen, or Eliksni.

power

While he doesn't possess any magic like the player does, it's worth mentioning that Spider has great authority over his followers, so much so that he distributes basic necessities among them as rewards for their work. He doesn't consider himself a ruler (he prefers the term boss), but a lot of his crew address him as one anyway.

refined villain

There is a lore entry where he offers Misraaks a fancy drink while they discuss the ethicalities of disarming the lower class. By disarming we mean removing their arms.

tall and height

Fallen are naturally taller than humans, but Spider is considered massive even by their standards

information

The Spider, born Rakis, is the leader of a Fallen crime syndicate stretching from the Tangled Shore to the Last City. He was the planetary vendor of the Tangled Shore, and a powerful but ruthless ally of the Awoken of the Reef and the Guardians of the Last City.

He aided the Guardians in tracking down the Scorned Barons, putting an end to his brother's rival syndicate, and stopping the spread of the Wrathborn in the Reef.

After running afoul of Mara Sov, he went into hiding within the Eliksni Quarter and threw his lot in with the House of Light. He now assists his adoptive brother Mithrax, Kell of Light in combating the forces of the Witness, including Eramis, Kell of Darkness.

information

The Spider is much like a stereotypical criminal kingpin, he will go to great lengths to maintain his influence and has no qualms about battling his own kind to do it. He is even willing to ally with Petra Venj, an old "acquaintance" of his, and the Guardian, to restore his territory and deal with the Scorn and Uldren. This is further supported by the description of one of his daily bounties where he states that he would have even considered working out an agreement with the Red Legion had they not disrespected him.[49] However, while he maintains that their alliance is merely for business, the Spider shows a level of honor and respect towards the Guardian, keeping his word in their deals and continuing their "friendship".

Despite this, the Spider is willing to alter a deal to make sure that those who owe him a debt don't pay it back too quickly and too easily, as he does not want to get the short end of the stick. This was apparent when the Guardians cleared out the Hive infestation within the Tangled Shore. After slaying the Brood Queen, The Spider found that the threat was too "easy" for it to satisfy their debt to him. Despite Ghost's objections, the Spider points out that the mission wasn't a deal, only "considerations". Likely he finds the Guardians too useful and skilled to simply say that all debts are paid.Spider is not without hubris, however, as the Guardian would get the better of Spider following the agreement in handling the Wrathborn infesting the Tangled Shore. When offered anything from his personal collection, the Guardian chose Crow's freedom, which left Spider surprised and angered but when the Guardian used his own word against him, Spider grudgingly relented. This showed that the Spider enjoyed having the advantage in his dealings with the Guardians but is pragmatic enough to accept that there are some battles he can't win and its better for him to not make an enemy of the Guardians.

information

Though the Spider can be very ruthless in how he runs his criminal enterprise, the mob boss has shown a capacity for generosity and reasonable nature. Instead of just hoarding all the profits and leaving next to nothing for his employees, he ensures his workforce is paid what they earn, far more generous than a contemporary Fallen Kell, Archon or Baron.[3] Despite his more "generous" nature, the Spider is still ruthless, as he had a supplier killed for asking too many questions and was reputed to be rather cruel to Crow when the Lightbearer was under his employment, even having his Ghost rigged to exploded should he "stray from the nest".

The Spider displays a fascination with various aspects of humanity and its culture. He has no interest in what Fallen would normally consider priceless,[50] and instead avidly collects ancient human artwork, as well as dead Ghosts.[51][52] In addition to this, the Spider does enjoy collecting trophies, out of interest or monetary purposes, from his dead enemies, so much so that he offers bounties on them.

information what else seems good for them

The Spider is highly fluent in English. His voice lacks much of the growls and clicks associated with Eliksni speech; this may be due to either practice or some form of translation device (although he claims that Variks speaks perfect English as well, deliberately using poor grammar to seem more harmless to the Awoken). Reflecting his fascination with humanity, he frequently uses human figures of speech and body language, even when speaking to other Eliksni (to whom such gestures are meaningless).[53][54]

In Season of Plunder, Spider remains the opportunistic and entrepreneurial baron he has been but desperation forced him to seek sanctuary within the Last City alongside Mithrax and his House of Light, despite the slight grudge that appears between them. This grudge appears to be a long-held inability to see on the same level as the other, evidenced in Mithrax marooning Spider at one point.[55] Despite allying with Mithrax and the Guardian against Eramis and the Old Crews, Spider often continues to make a profit of the situation or at least makes sure he doesn't come up short, often trying to claim a "share" of the treasure the Guardians acquire from the Old Crews, which angers Mithrax. Further, Spider has shown some skepticism in a permanent alliance with humanity and in having faith in the Traveler, but he nonetheless accepted working with the Vanguard as the better option compared to Eramis's violence and warmongering.

Spider has shown a certain enmity towards the Vex, not for any particular reason other than they do not understand or respect the concept of monetary compensation, claiming he doesn't respect anyone who can't be bought.

Owns

The House of Spider[2] (also known as Spider's Crime Syndicate) is a Fallen criminal enterprise led by the Spider that formerly resided within the Tangled Shore, and is now based in the Last City. It previously allied with the Guardians to fight back against the Scorn and have now joined forces with the House of Light and the Vanguard against the forces of the Witness.
