She meets the witch in the forest playing with butterflies. Immediately after seeing the stardust witch, Elaina thinks about going home, but concludes that there is nothing for her to do there. She then starts talking to the stardust witch, who immediately takes Elaina as her apprentice. Elaina became a witch at the age of fifteen, three years before the events of the main story.
