Ray has short black hair and blue eyes. Although he's an ordinary, he is handsome and cool-looking boy. Being 173cm tall, he looks thin overall. However, he is amazing when he takes off his clothes, revealing his muscles. When he activates Chronos Lock, his hair turns into a bluish white.

Ray is quite an oddball, having standards that are too quirky. Being a commoner, he is extremely respectful to others and even his close friends and usually uses formal honorifics, like san. He is very optimistic and carefree since his main goal is to make friends and enjoy school life to the fullest. Because of his friendly and outward nature, he can easily converse with everyone, even if it's strangers or people of high caliber. Although his personality is serious, he is shown to lack common sense; for instance, he misunderstood that Allium and his group were cursing him. For him, when it comes to sorcerers, everyone is equal.

He is also a natural womanizer who easily says such good words to the girls, making them blush or embarrassed. Ray is also an expert crossdresser, using magic to alter his voice and body structure when he does so. He uses this primarily as an infiltration technique, but occasionally for other matters (such as to be a maid in a maid café). He does not conceal this skill from those who know him, though there are a number of people whom he has not told (due to not realizing he should/needs to) and have not made the connection.

Ray White was a war orphan and he was found by Lydia Ainsworth. In the anime he is portrayed wearing an expression of depression, but with the help of the military members (by whom he was taken custody) he slowly opens up. He participates in wars as a member of the military, but after he traumatically witnesses the death of Howard Kennett he causes overheat and accidentally injures Lydia causing her to retire, but by this time most of the Iceblade Sorcery has already been passed down to Ray. A few years later he enrolls in the Arnold Academy of Magical Arts. Where he becomes close friends with Amelia Rose, Elisa Griffith, Rebecca Bradley, Clarisse Cleveland, Evi Armstrong, (and later) Albert Allium.

Amelia Rose: Ray and Amelia have shared a strong bond ever since they met. Ray finds her a diligent and beautiful noble living her family name, while Amelia finds him very fascinating as he lacks common sense. She is kind to him and loves his company. Whenever he compliments her, she would get happy and even flustered whenever he calls her beautiful. Amelia at first saw him as a mysterious person as although a Ordinary, he has a wide range of magic knowledge and martial arts. Her suspicion also grew deeper after witnessing his survival skills in the forest. When they had a mock battle, Ray's abilities further piqued her interest in him. This curiousity made her to seek out Ray's identity. Thus her doubts became clear when she found out that he is the "Iceblade Scorcerer". Ray thought she and the others would leave him after revealing his past and identity to them, but instead they were worried about him. It is worth noting that they are attracted to each other. When Ray visits his master, he says he has two girlfriends (Amelia & Elisa), although meant as a joke. In chapter 61 of the manga, after the Magic Chevalier, the two accidentally shared their first kiss when they were accidentally pushed against each other by their friends while arguing where to stand during the group photo.
Elisa Griffith: Ray catches interest in her when she pointed out Dual Code Theory in the class and later chatted in the library. Ray soon learned she is an admirer of Lydia Ainsworth and has a versed knowledge of magic, especially healing magic. She sees him in a very different light because he is the first person who tells her she is appealing. It was all thanks to Ray that she gained self-confidence by keeping her hoodie off. She also developed romantic feelings for him as he told her he needed her as a party member and got heavily embarrassed about getting a piggyback ride. Rebecca Bradley: Is one of his love interests. He saved Rebecca and teams up with her so-called "fiancé", Evan (who is actually Liselotte Eden in disguise).

Albert Allium: Albert originally was hostile towards Ray of being an "ordinary". He lost against Ray in a duel. He attempted to kill Ray when he was brainwashed by Helena Grady (who is a spy for the Eugenics). Albert soon learned that Ray is actually a member of the Seven Grand Sorcerers. After Gray's defeat, Albert came to the nurse office to apologize to Ray for his actions. Ray accepted his apologies. Albert decided to try to surpass Ray and the Seven Grand Sorcerers. Lucas Frost: Lucas is a fellow Grand Sorcerer and the current Peerless Blade Sorcerer who sees Ray as a rival and plans to challenge him to a duel next year to prove which of them is the strongest Grand Sorcerer. Lucas decided to wait until Ray fully recovers from Overheating just so they will have their duel where they can both battle fairly in their 100%.
Seven Grand Sorcerers

Lydia Ainsworth: Lydia is the previous Iceblade Sorcerer who became Ray's mentor and adoptive mother. She raised and trained Ray to gain the Iceblade Magic that even more powerful than his mentor. He accidentally injured his mentor's leg causing her to be discharged from the Seven Grand Sorcerers due to her injuries. When having to enroll the Arnold Academy of Magical Arts, she tells to Ray to never reveal to anyone of his identity as the Iceblade Sorcerer (this was until Helena Grady's betrayal). He didn't manage to keep his promise but Lydia was okay with it since he used it to help others and that he was okay. Abbie Garnet: The Blaze Sorcerer and the Arnold Academy headmaster, Abbie is a close friend of Ray. She only accepted Ray's enrollment due to Lydia's sake of wanting to make Ray to have an ordinary life.

Carol Caroline: The Spellbinding Sorcerer Carol is a close friend of Ray who serves as his older sister and aunt figure. Despite caring for her, he dislikes her for her clinginess and sexual advances towards him as shown when Carol became the instructor, Ray is becomes shocked and annoyed by her surprise appearance.
Lieselotte Eden: The Sorcerer of Fabrication, a woman with stark white hair and golden-yellow eyes, helps Rebecca Bradley for her own agenda and gets in touch with Maria and Ray White in order to defeat the real Evan Bernstein (whom she has been posing as for the past ten years), and help Rebecca Bradley, Maria's older sister. She pushes the real Evan into a portal (which leads to an unknown dimension), and defeats him using the spell Apotheosis. She also has albino features like Maria Bradley.
Francoise Claire: The late Wing Sorcerer Francoise was a friend of Ray. He died during the war.

Ice Magic: Releasing his Chronos Lock, Ray can produce and control ice. He stops utilizing ice by activating his Chronos Lock.
Icicle Blades - Ray gathers Ice Blades to encircle him which he uses to attack and possibly defend himself. During his fight with Helena Grady, he demonstrated his ability to successfully control them when he stopped a fireball with one of the blades and took it back..
Frame Lock - Ray first employed this technique to impale Gray's leg as she tried to flee, using two blades. It appears to be a trap method because of this.
Ice Bloom Profusion - The first time Ray utilized this method, a whirlwind formed around Gray before she was frozen. Although its true purpose is not confirmed, it appears to have the ability to freeze and seal away a person. Deceleration: Lock Registration - With the aid of this method, Ray can theoretically neutralize an approaching strike once it has slowed down. This further demonstrated the use of deceleration in ice magic.
Master Swordsman - Ray's swordsmanship is shown to be incredibly high, easily surpassing Albert and Amelia and this is due to years of training since he was a child.

Ray White strikingly resembles that of Gray Fullbuster from Fairy Tail series. Both have black hair, blue eyes, and their ice magic by comparison. However, the biggest difference is their personalities: Gray is stubborn and rude towards anyone, while Ray is fully serious and polite.
Additionally, Ray's use of releasing Chronos Lock as brief last resort during his fight with Helena resembles that Kirito, the male protagonist from Sword Art Online. Although he has more survivability when using life-threatening abilities that keep harming him, unlike that of Kirito.
