Enderman appearance

Enderman Life points 40♥ × 20 Behavior Neutral Generation On the Surface and in the End at lighting levels of 0. In the Nether: Light levels of 11 or less in: Nether Ruins Valley of souls Distorted forest Damage Easy: 4.5♥ × 2.25 Normal: 7♥♥♥♥ Hard: 10.5♥ × 5.25 Details Size Normal: Height: 2.9 blocks Width: 0.6 blocks Irritated: Height: 3.25 blocks Width: 0.6 blocks Endermen can only spawn on solid surfaces that have at least three empty spaces above them, at light level 0 in the Overworld and the End, or at light level 11 or lower in the Nether. They are the only mob that spawns in all 3 dimensions.

Surface Endermen spawn uncommonly in the Overworld, in all biomes except mushroom fields and the Dark Depths. They often spawn in groups of three.

Nether Endermen spawn rarely in soul valleys, uncommonly in nether ruins, and most commonly in warped forests.

End Endermen commonly spawn in groups of one to four, anywhere in the End dimension. Behavior An enderman can be provoked by any player or mob that attacks it. They can also be provoked by players who look into its eyes and then stop looking within 64 blocks of it. Endermen open their mouths and begin shaking furiously if provoked; they also make loud, long sounds when stared at. If the player maintains eye contact, the enderman will not move, however it can teleport. Once the player stops looking at the enderman, it will run towards the player's back to attack, but it will stop if hit by another player or mob.[2] A provoked enderman runs faster and often teleports to the location of a player or mob up to 32 blocks away (orthogonally). Endermen are not provoked if a player looks at them through a transparent block.

or while using a carved pumpkin.

A provoked enderman will chase the player until they are killed or distracted by external elements, such as rain or fire. They do not take damage from sunlight like undead, but will teleport randomly until they find a dark spot if they are not already chasing the player. During rain or dawn, they will teleport to underground locations, such as caves.

Endermen can be damaged by melee attacks, water, lava, fire, splashing water bottles, or rain. However, they do not take damage when standing in cauldrons filled with water ‌[Java Edition only]. Endermen teleport when they take damage from natural causes (1♥), and continue to do so until they find a dry place. They also teleport when they take damage from other causes, such as suffocation, poison, or decay.

Ranged attacks do not work against endermen, as they teleport when hit by a projectile instead of taking damage. Arrows‌[Java Edition only] and tridents appear to bounce off an enderman that cannot teleport. In Bedrock Edition, arrows go straight through endermen that cannot teleport (but if the arrow had any effect, its effect is still applied)[requires in-game testing].

Endermen can pass over an entire block without needing to jump.

Endermen are hostile towards endermites within 64 blocks but are peaceful towards other mobs unless provoked.

An enderman near a player prevents the player from sleeping in a bed at night as if there were a hostile mob nearby. If the player is already sleeping in a bed, it is possible for the enderman to teleport to them and wake them up.

The area of attack of endermen when looking into their eyes is reduced when the player is crouched, or under the effect of invisibility depending on the amount of armor pieces being worn. The detection area

in invisible player blocks is displayed in the following table: Block movement Enderman (holding Grass Block) Enderman (holding Sand) Enderman (holding Cactus) Enderman (TNT holding) Enderman (holding Dandelion) Unlike other mobs, which cannot hold blocks other than as items, endermen have a unique ability to pick up, carry, and place certain blocks. They silently pick up[7] blocks in a 4×3×4 (XYZ) region centered horizontally on the enderman and spanning it vertically. An enderman cannot pick up blocks in a completely flat area. Endermen drop the block they are holding as an item upon death, although they do not visually drop the block upon death.[8][9] It does not disappear while holding a block. Endermen cannot place blocks on entities or bedrock.
