Yuta Okkotsu (乙骨憂太, Okkotsu Yūta?) is the protagonist of the manga series Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School and one of the characters in the sequel series, Jujutsu Kaisen. He is one of the four Special Class shamans and a second-year student at Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical School, a classmate of Maki Zenin, Panda, and Toge Inumaki. He was on a mission with Miguel in Kenya,[4] but returned to Japan after the incident in Shibuya.[5]

He was a childhood friend of Rika Orimoto, who died in a tragic car accident. Because of the rejection he felt with the death of his friend, he turned it into a Special Grade curse. Since then, he has been stalked by the power of his now cursed friend. To avoid making others suffer, he agrees to be executed, instead, Satoru Gojo enrolls him in the Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical College to train him and become a shaman with whom he can work in the future[1].

Yuta is a thin and tall teenager. During Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, he used to wear his black hair disheveled, with much of it covering part of his forehead. Starting from Jujutsu Kaisen, he wears his hair styled and parted down the middle, with part of it falling to the left, covering part of his face.[6] His eyes are dark blue[7] and he has dark circles under his eyes due to lack of sleep. His body language makes it easy to tell that Yuta is very fearful, his posture is hunched over[1]. At his old school, he wore a white shirt, black pants, and black shoes as his uniform[1]. As casual clothes, he wears short-sleeved shirts with dark pants[8]. After transferring to Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, he receives his own version of the uniform, which consists of a loose white jacket with sleeves that reach his forearms, while the rest of the clothing remains black. During the winter, he is usually seen wearing the school's dark jacket[9]. In case of going on a mission or being present in a combat, he carries his katana in its respective sheath[8].

At first, he used to be a very shy and lonely young man who was constantly bullied by his classmates and other people around him. Because Rika Orimoto, when she turned into a curse, pursued him from a very young age, he was unable to establish healthy relationships with anyone, and has lost all self-confidence. This makes Yuta someone who finds it difficult to interact with others, and is fearful of more explosive personalities such as, for example, Maki Zenin[1].

He believes that everything bad that happens to the people around him is entirely his fault, meaning that he genuinely cares about other people, at first he prefers to be executed in total isolation because he is aware of the harm that being with Rika causes, and even prefers to stay in total isolation so as not to harm anyone. Maki accused Yuta of being a child who had always acted like a victim due to her friend's curse, and called him naive for believing he could pass through the Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical College without the necessary determination, to this Yuta does not contradict Maki's words but affirms them, showing that he is aware of that. Later when he has a mission with Maki, the overwhelm of not only having two children injured but also his partner, helps him determine his first goal in life, which is to be able to have connections with someone, this helps Yuta realize that he deeply desires the confidence to feel that, despite harming people, it is okay for him to continue living [1]. From that point on, his personality changes for the better, becoming more relaxed and confident, though his shy nature remains intact. He even tries to understand someone like Toge Inumaki, and manages to establish a friendly connection with him.[8] Gaining friends helps Yuta gain even more confidence in himself, and he begins to want to find a way to exorcise Rika.
