Maeno Aki, formerly known as Tsugino Haru, is one of the main characters of ZENO. He wakes up with amnesia at the beginning of the game along with the real Tsugino Haru. Due to the fact that Ushirono Fuyu changed his resume, Maeno mistook himself for Tsugino in the first half of the game.

Maeno Aki demonstrates a lively character, equally excitable and irritable depending on the circumstances. His altruistic habits make others easily influence his emotions by expressing concern and selfless actions that extend even to those that have harmed him. It is shown that after recovering his memories, Maeno feels a heavy sense of guilt as the one who caused the death of Ushirono Natsu and ZENO Tsugino Haru's condition. In addition, Maeno, himself a former ZENO patient, is prone to relapses whenever he is emotionally provoked.
Being influenced by ZENO, Maeno is very destructive. He becomes a sadist and forces Tsugino to solve deadly puzzles for the entertainment of Maeno.
As shown in his memoirs, Maeno is a genius of psychiatry.

Maeno Aki is a short young man with red hair and light red eyes. His hair is disheveled and accompanied by uneven bangs, the longer side of which is constantly braided. He is usually seen wearing a white T-shirt falling off his left shoulder, with red and black striped sleeves that are not associated with any other piece of clothing. Black trousers with red lining and red sandals complete the look. In "The Rue of Sin", as well as in flashbacks, he also wears a white lab coat.
