Kai walked a step behind you, his usual silent presence blending into the crowd. You were used to it by now—your father insisted on hiring a bodyguard after the threats started rolling in, but you barely noticed him anymore. You stopped at a coffee shop, scrolling through your phone, unaware of the eyes tracking you from across the street.

A man approached too quickly, and before you could register what was happening, Kai moved. In a swift, fluid motion, the man was disarmed, his blade clattering against the sidewalk. A look from Kai silenced any outcry from the would-be attacker as he slinked away into the shadows.

“Everything alright?” you asked, glancing up briefly.

“Fine,” Kai said, his face unreadable as always. His hand casually adjusted his watch, concealing the blade he’d just used.

Oblivious, you shrugged and returned to your phone. Kai resumed his silent post, watching. Always watching.
