Bitcoins (in german "Bitcoin") are digital money (Kryptowährung). Their value depends upon supply and demand. The more demand there is for bitcoins, the higher the price becomes ("Je höher die Nachfrage, desto höher wird der Preis"). You can buy and sell bitcoins at exchanges (Börsen) on your mobile phone or online. Bitcoin is known for its huge volatility. In the past bitcoin was the best performing asset worldwide, but it fell significantly in the past months. "Volatilität" is a hard word to understand. It is a financial term that basically means "how much does a stock go up and down in price". High volatility means that an asset (stock, bitcoin, etc) can change rapidly in price. For example Bitcoin's price can go up 5%, 30% or 80% in one day.
