Asta is a short, muscular young man. He has green eyes and messy, ash-blond hair, with a single strand sticking up from the center of his head. He ties his hair back with a black headband bearing the gold insignia of the Black Bulls squad and a red four-pointed star with three stitches on the back.

Asta's usual outfit consists of a plain white tunic with a V-neck under a dark blue jacket whose sleeves only extend to his elbows. He wears a pair of matching shorts with a stitched detail down the left side. His shorts also end just below his knees. His shoes are made of two different fabrics: the ankle cuffs and soles are the same color as his jacket and shorts, while the toe caps are white, featuring a vertical stitched detail running from the arch to his toes.

After receiving his grimoire, Asta uses a pouch attached to a brown leather belt. Additionally, as a member of the Black Bulls, he wears his squad's cloak, which is short and black with gold trim and covers the upper half of his torso. It also has a hood and a gold button on the right side to fasten it, while the left side displays the squad's insignia. In his "Black Asta" form, his right arm turns black as he allows Anti-Magic to flow through his body. A black wing sprouts from his right shoulder, a black horn grows from the right side of his head, his teeth lengthen, his right eye turns red, and the pupil becomes a slit. Furthermore, his right hand and foot transform into claws, and a tail grows from his back.

Asta is generally cheerful and hyperactive. He tends to shout to express his thoughts and goals, regardless of other people's opinions, as seen when he expressed his goal of becoming a Magic King during the Magic Knights' Entrance Exam, where he tells other people that if they disagree with him they should shut up. His strong tenacity interests Yami Sukehiro enough to recruit him into his ranks. His strong determination also leads him to have a strong will to never give up and stand tall during a tough battle, as acknowledged by Magna Swing. However, Asta has had a hard time accepting his lack of magical power, using his boisterous attitude as a mask to hide his insecurities. After his arms are left broken and cursed from the battle against Vetto, Asta nearly falls into a depression before speaking up and forcing himself to keep going despite it.

Due to his upbringing in the Forgotten Region, Asta frequently receives harsh opinions and insults from almost everyone he meets. This causes Asta to have a slightly sarcastic nature as he tries to defend himself. However, having received harsh opinions from others for so long, Asta has developed an immunity to them as he could easily ignore them without becoming too upset. However, Asta is still annoyed when others deeply insult his comrades; he will not hesitate to confront them while trying to defend his friends.

Asta also possesses a strong sense of justice, demonstrated during his fight against Heath Grice, as he believes everyone deserves protection. This isn't limited to his comrades but extends to his enemies as well, as seen when he asks his squadmates to carry the unconscious Mars with them as the dungeon collapses. He argues that their mission is merely to explore a dungeon, as they aren't ordered to kill any enemies. Therefore, Asta seems to see the positive side of everyone and never takes insults too seriously, as seen when he still befriends Yuno and Noelle Silva, even after they both offer him harsh opinions. Even when Fana attempts to kill him and his friends, Asta tries to reason with her in an attempt to understand her and calm her anger, showing consideration for non-violent methods of resolving conflict. He continues to do this with the other reincarnated elves, despite his repeated attempts being unsuccessful.

However, Asta also believes that those who have done wrong should work to atone for their mistakes. He takes into account the errors of his enemies, even if he has forgiven them or not. This is first shown when he asks Neige to spend time in prison before promising to become his friend; Asta also demands that Ladros, in his weakened state, apologize and help the people he hurt. In another example, he restrains Rades by force the next time they meet, nearly breaking his arm until he convinces him to use his powers to help the people in the capital instead of seeking revenge.

His open, friendly, and unprejudiced attitude, his indomitable will, and his stubbornness have earned him the respect of almost everyone he meets, including nobles like Klaus Lunettes and Fuegoleon Vermillion. He has also won the affection of numerous girls, though because his heart belongs to his sister Lily, he largely ignores this fact.

• Anti-Magic: Asta uses this unique energy to nullify other types of magic. Despite not having the ability to use magic himself, his control over this anti-magic energy, as well as the uniqueness of his power, has earned him the rank of arcane-level mage.

• Magical Union: Asta combines his Anti-Magic with the magic of others to create more powerful spells.

Skills: Expert Swordsman: Asta initially has a rigid style due to his unconventional sword and the fact that he only received basic training from Fanzell Kruger. Over time, he has developed better skills through battle experience by fighting multiple opponents who used magical swords and witnessing their battles, such as Licht, Yami, Mars, and Kiato. He has also managed to improve his swordsmanship skills thanks to additional swords and his ki perception.

• Lack of Magical Power: Asta possesses no mana and is unable to use magic. This allows him to use anti-magic without suffering its debilitating effects since he has no magical power to lose. This also makes him undetectable to people who can sense others' mana, and he is immune to the life-draining substance of the Underworld.

• Enhanced Strength: Asta possesses a high level of physical strength, capable of performing a thousand push-ups with one hand. This strength allows him to wield heavy swords with one hand, as well as create holes in rock walls using only his fists without injuring himself. Asta can hold his swords with such force that his opponents are blown through rocks when struck by his weapons. The Witch Queen further enhanced his arm strength using her blood magic.

• Enhanced Speed: Asta is able to move at above-average speeds, leading William Vangeance to believe that he has used magic to help himself.

• Enhanced Durability: Asta possesses high durability, as seen when he is able to remain standing despite receiving numerous attacks from Heath Grice. He is even able to emerge relatively unscathed from Licht's attempt to knock him down, along with Yami.

• Enhanced Instinct: Asta possesses a high level of instinct, as demonstrated when he unconsciously moves his body in the best way to defend himself.

• Ki: It is a principle originating from the place Yami comes from. It allows Asta to use his sixth sense to perceive and react to attacks and people he cannot see.

• Indomitable Will: His exceptionally strong willpower allows him to never give up, no matter how difficult or impossible the situation. Even when he lost the use of both hands, he resolutely refused to surrender. By confronting his inner demon, Asta was able to overcome temptation. Later, he even temporarily resisted the Witch Queen's Blood Puppet's control. His stubbornness is a great inspiration to those around him, constantly pushing them beyond their own limits.

• Charisma: Asta has proven to be incredibly charismatic; his actions and words routinely rally his friends and allies even in the most desperate situations. He is also extremely eloquent, crafting inspiring speeches and constantly turning his opponents' words against them.

• Sharp Intellect: Despite his hyperactive and stubborn nature, Asta has proven to be intelligent and thoughtful in his own right. He understands many situations he finds himself in and can be tactical when necessary, such as removing curses with his swords and devising different tactics in battle. He has shown that he learns quickly, such as when he quickly learned to use ki from Yami's instructions in the middle of a fight, and when he was able to discover the hidden powers of the Danma Sword simply by observing its original wielder fighting.

• Demonic Power: As the wielder of the Five-Leaf Clover Grimoire, Asta is connected to a demon who possesses anti-magic, granting him access to this energy. The more power he absorbs, the more demonic his appearance becomes. Asta makes a pact with the demon: his right arm in exchange for more power. This power boost allows him to negate the Gravitational Singularity and coat new weapons with anti-magic; however, its use is limited to 50 seconds.

• Black Asta: After the Witch Queen uses her blood magic to remove the limitations of Asta's Anti-Magic, he learns to channel the energy through his body and achieve a form where the Anti-Magic flows through him and covers parts of his body. This form is attracted to strong magic and increases his strength and speed while clearing his mind of doubts and strange thoughts, improving his focus and mental clarity, and also granting him the ability to fly. To activate this form, Asta must remain still and concentrate on circulating the energy, which leaves him vulnerable to attack. Furthermore, the physical exhaustion of using this form limits Asta's use to only twice a day, although he can push himself to obtain a third time. Asta is also capable of entering a berserker mode when his emotions are disturbed, causing his body's anti-magic to go out of control and manifest less stability in his body. It also covers his right leg and, along with his arm, gives it a claw-like shape, covers most of his face with anti-magic, and grows a third horn. In this state, Asta is unable to reason and speak normally.

• Demonic Assimilation: After Asta and Liebe train with Gimodelo, they manage to master demonic assimilation, however due to their exhaustion the transformation only lasts 5 minutes. In this state, Asta's hair turns completely black, four horns grow, and his face is covered with sharp black lines: one running from his cheek through his eye and two thinner lines extending from his head to the main line. His forehead is covered with a kind of anti-magic band featuring a sharp red line with smaller lines crossing it. His body is also covered in armor with markings similar to those on his forehead, appearing on his legs and shoulder pads. There are also thinner, pointed lines on his thighs, from the sides to the center, behind his arms, and on his abdomen. An eight-pointed star covers most of his chest, with a smaller, five-pointed symbol in its center. These five points gradually transform into circles every minute, and when all the points have formed circles, the assimilation process deactivates. He also grows two wings and a tail with a single point. In the shape of a clover, it also possesses a total of 6 anti-magic orbs that emit beams from its back. This form greatly increases Asta's strength to such an extent that he was able to easily cut through Naamah's body even after it fused with Lilith, making it a real physical body and not a magical body like the Majin. It also increases his speed and the capacity of his anti-magic to such an extent that he can nullify the magic of an entire area.
