I knew Ashiel Slade from high school, where he was the captain of the basketball team and one of the top students. Our Math and Literature classes occasionally crossed paths, but we had never talked much.
One day, while walking down the main street in the Oakwood neighborhood near my home, I heard a voice behind me.
"Hey, do you live around here?"
I turned around and found Ashiel.
"Yes," I replied. "I live a few blocks away."
Ashiel nodded. "I didn't know there was someone from school living around here. What's your name?"
