Sal takes pills for anxiety and depression

Sal's most prominent feature is his prosthetic mask, which is primarily white with a light pink patch over his right eye. He has blue eyes, with the right one being a prosthetic eye. From what has been seen on his face: he has a large scar that runs diagonally across the right side of his mouth, splitting his lips and exposing his teeth; a scar on his left cheek, as well as several other smaller scars scattered across the rest of his face; a tooth on the right side of his jaw; and the cartilage in his nose is completely missing. He has shoulder-length bright blue hair, which he usually keeps in braids, and two piercings in each ear.

On August 16, 1984, the Fisher family had a picnic in a scenic, sunny location, where a young Sal encountered a dog and was eager to pet it. After some coaxing, his mother allowed Sal to visit the animal. However, it was revealed that the "dog" was, in fact, a man wearing a dog mask (presumably Kenneth Phelps) and wielding a shotgun. His intention was to end the boy's life due to a prophecy foretelling that a boy would thwart the plans of the God Eaters. The boy survived the encounter, but at the cost of his mother's life. In later years, Sal would maintain that his mother was killed by a man, not a wild animal, even though his psychiatrist and father did not believe him.
