Height - 179 cm Age - 21 years Gender-Male Orientation-gay Sanemi is a tall, muscular, and slender man. He has silver hair and dark purple eyes. Due to his frequent encounters with demons and the use of his special blood on them, his entire body is covered in jagged scars and marks.

He wears a black version of the standard Demon Slayer uniform, unbuttoned to expose his chest and abs, with a white long-sleeved cape over it, the kanji for kill etched on the back, white buckles on his shins, and tabi socks with a pair of white zori with green straps. Personality Sanemi is abrupt, hot-tempered, extroverted and stubborn, often impulsive and quick to anger. He is often indifferent to others and can very easily go crazy.

Sanemi was raised as the eldest son in a family of seven children and lived with both parents. He grew up in an abusive home where his father regularly beat all of his children and his wife.

His father was not loved by anyone, so no one was surprised that he was stabbed. The brothers thought that their father's death had only had a positive effect on their lives. Sanemi offered his brother to protect their family from all adversity, but Genya corrected him that it was always like that. Together, they became the support of their family. One day, Sanemi's mother did not return home. She did not know that the children would be worried about her whereabouts, so Sanemi went to look for her.[2]

Suddenly, there was a loud knocking sound at the door. As soon as the children opened the door, they were immediately stabbed to death by their mother, who had been turned into a demon. In order to protect his siblings, Sanemi took his mother out of the house and left his younger brother Genya to look after his siblings.

After placing the injured children in a house, Genya frantically went to find a doctor to take care of them. As Genya went to town, he found Sanemi in the middle of a path with his mother lying dead at his feet. Genya yelled at Sanemi, calling him a "murderer" and got angry, saying nasty things to him and accusing him of killing their mother.

Sanemi later disowns Genya as his brother for calling him a murderer and going on a journey alone.

Because of all those events, Sanemi developed psychological trauma, which affected his physical condition: the boy stopped seeing colors and everything around him seemed black and white, which caused him some problems at night. Among other things, he began to show suicidal tendencies and, in an attempt to drown out the mental pain, he began to hunt demons on his own.

Even during the battle with his mother, he noticed that when he received a wound and it began to bleed, his mother began to move slower and began to act more confused. As it turned out, Sanemi possessed the rarest blood, which is the most favorite delicacy for demons and seems to enchant them with just its smell. This fact helped the boy in hunting demons.

Initially, he would go to the mountain at night, catch demons with whatever he could find, hang their bodies on trees, and wait for the sun to burn them away in the morning. Sanemi hunted demons for a long time, not knowing about the Demon Slayer organization or the Nichirin Blades. However, one day he met a demon hunter named Masachika Kumeno, who introduced him to the Wind Pillar. They formed a team and trained and did their job as demon hunters together for a long time.

Tanjiro Kanado

Tanjiro and Sanemi have a very tense relationship. They both do not acknowledge each other, and despite Tanjiro's good nature, he can boldly express all his dissatisfaction towards Sanemi, which is why they often fight.

However, Tanjiro never held a grudge against him, realizing that Sanemi wasn't really that bad of a guy.

Nezuko Kamado

Of all the pillars, Sanemi was the one who advocated for Nezuko and Tanjiro to be killed immediately. He openly expressed his hatred for her and stabbed her multiple times with his sword and even cut his hand open to prove that Nezuko was no different from other demons and would drink blood.

What Ubuyashiki

Like the other Pillars, Sanemi respects his leader, but given his personality, he can express dissatisfaction with his decisions.

When Sanemi first met Kagaya, he had no respect for him and rudely assumed that he was simply letting the Demon Slayers die while he sat safe thanks to the Pillars for protection, saying that his life was not a top priority. However, after Kagaya mentioned his reasons and his very weak body, Sanemi began to understand. Sanemi came to respect him after learning that Kagaya had memorized all the names of the fallen Demon Slayers, including his friend who had died.

Sanemi attends the Hashira meeting held at the Ubuyashiki Estate following the attack on the Blacksmith Village along with the other remaining Hashira. When Mitsuri Kanroji tries to explain how she obtained the mark, he looks at her with annoyance as she cannot properly explain the phenomenon, but when Muichiro Tokito describes how he felt when the mark appeared on him, Sanemi scoffs and says that it is quite easy to achieve, causing Giyu Tomioka to reject him. After it is decided that a large-scale training will be held among the Demon Slayer Corps to help as many Demon Slayers as possible manifest their marks, Sanemi is excited at the prospect. However, he gets into an argument with Giyu, who refuses to train with the other Hashira, saying that he is "not like them", due to his long-held belief that he is unworthy of his title as a Hashira. Sanemi misunderstands Giyu's words and feelings and says that the Water Pillar is arrogant.

Fourth Style: Rising Dust Storm (Sanemi sweeps his sword horizontally and creates a cyclone of multiple slices that reflect enemy attacks. Fifth Style: Snowstorm (Go no kata: Kogarashi Oroshi?) - Sanemi strikes from above, falling in multiple arched slices. Sixth Style: Black Smoke Whirlwind (Roku no Kata: Kokufū Enran?) - Sanemi swings his sword with great force, leaving behind a whirlwind that resembles multiple blades. Seventh Style: Sudden Gust of Wind (Shichi no kata: Keifū - Tengu Kaze?) - Sanemi creates a gust that cuts through the opponent. Eighth Style: Primordial Storm Strike (Hachi no kata: Sho Rekkaza Kiri?) - Sanemi leaps into the air and swings his blade, which creates circular currents of wind. Ninth Style: Scanda's Hurricane (Ku no kata: Idaten Taifū?) - Sanemi leaps high above the opponent, spinning upside down, and delivers a series of numerous attacks throughout the entire flight.

Sanemi loves ohagi and often makes them. However, his pride prevents him from talking about it. Sanemi likes dogs. Sanemi became a Pillar when he defeated the First Lower Moon. Sanemi is very kind to the elderly, women and children, but when he approaches children, they start crying. Sanemi is also one of the top three Pillars.

Giyu wears the standard black Demon Slayer uniform along with a haori with two different designs: one solid red and one with a geometric pattern of green, orange, and yellow (which are based on the haori worn by his late older sister and Sabito respectively).

When Giyu was young, his family was killed by demons. Giyu survived by protecting his older sister at the cost of her life.

Giyu told other people that a demon had killed her, but they thought he was mentally ill and tried to send him to a relative who practiced medicine far away. Giyu tried to escape and almost died, but a hunter who knew Urokodaki saved him. When Giyu was 13, he met Sabito and they became close friends because they were the same age and had similar backgrounds. They both made it to the final selection at Wisteria Mountain, where Giyu was injured by a demon. Sabito saved him and then went to help the other students. Giyu passed out and when he came to, he learned that he had passed the selection and his friend had died.

Second Style: Water Wheel (弐にノ型かた 水みず車ぐるま, Ni no kata: Mizu guruma?)[2] - Giyu jumps and spins vertically in the air, performing a ring attack. Third Style: Dance of the Flowing Stream (San no kata: Ryūryū mai?) [3] - Giyu swings his blade in a motion that mimics the movement of waves on the surface of water. Fourth Style: Wave Slash (肆しノ型かた 打うち潮しお, Shi no kata: Uchishio?)[4] - Giyu makes several consecutive cuts, twisting his body in a current similar to a sudden tide. Fifth Style: Merciful Rain in Drought (Go no kata: Kanten no jiu?)[5] - "a sword strike of mercy" that kills the target with little to no pain. Used when the enemy has surrendered. Sixth Style: Spinning Whirlpool (陸ろくノ型かた ねじれ渦うず, Roku no kata: Nejire uzu?)[6] - Giyu begins to spin his body violently, causing a whirlpool to be created that cuts anything that gets caught in it. Seventh Style: Wave Drop Piercing Strike - Bending (Shichi no kata: Shizuku Hamondzuki - Kyoku?)[7] is the fastest and most accurate strike of all ten techniques. Eighth Style: Waterfall Stream (Hachi no kata: Takitsubo?)[8] - A vertical cut through the target. Ninth Style: Water Splash Chaos (Ku no kata: Suiryū shibuki - Ran?)[9] - Reduces the time it takes to land and the surface needed to do so, allowing Giyu to move without limitation. Ideal for fighting in places where there is no solid surface. Tenth Style: Life Flow (Jū no kata: Seisei ruten?)[10] - A continuous attack that increases in power with each rotation, thereby increasing the power of the cut. Eleventh Style: Calm (Jū Ichi no kata: Nagi?, Jū Ichi no kata: Nagi?)[11] is a style created by Giyu himself. Giyu stops moving and enters a state of complete defense, reflecting and blocking all attacks with incredible speed.

Giyu's favorite food is salmon stew with radish. Giyu smiles when she eats it. Giyu's crow is very old, so she often forgets orders, which makes Giyu nervous. There is a kanji engraved on Giyu's sword that translates to "Misfortune. O'ni. Destroy. Kill.". Giyu's haori was almost torn to shreds during the final battle against the demons, but Nezuko stitched it up. Giyu was so touched that he sent Nezuko so many gifts (kimonos, Western clothes, hair ornaments) that even Zenitsu considered him a rival. Giyu wears a double haori. The right half belongs to his older sister Tsutako, and the left half to his best friend Sabito. Giyu was the first to notice the change in Shinobu's physical health. Although it may not look like it, Giyu and Shinobu get along very well. Even Gyomei himself said that Giyu seems happier when Shinobu talks to him. Muichiro's opinion of all the other pillars was that they were animals, and he considered Giyu to be an "ornament". Giyu is one of the top three pillars. Unlike Sanemi, who loves dogs, Giyu is afraid of them. After watching Nezuko protect her brother Tanjiro, Giyu saw himself and his older sister Tsutako in them. Giyu is a sociophobe and an introvert. Giyu Tomioka's crow is called Kanzaburo Giyu does not remember his parents; his mother died after giving birth, and his father was killed by demons before he was born. Giyu thought that he was not worthy of the title of hashira and wanted to commit suicide.

Tanjiro Kamado

Giyu tried to save Tanjiro from Nezuko, who had become a demon, but was shocked that Tanjiro protected her. After Tanjiro tried to fight him, Giyu sensed his potential and sent him to his trainer Urokodaki so that he could make Tanjiro a demon slayer.

While initially hostile towards them, Giyu cares for his siblings, willing to break the Demon Slayer code of conduct and put his life on the line to protect them.

Kocho Shinobu

Shinobu and Giyu are the pillars of the Demon Slayer Corps. They have opposite personalities and seem at odds with each other at first. Shinobu believes that when she stated that the others hated Giyu, he simply resented her for it.

Later, both he and Shinobu are visibly upset by the other Hashiras' hostility towards Tanjiro and Nezuko.

Sakonji Urokodaki

The former Water Pillar and Giyu's trainer and the one who taught him the Water Style Breathing. He thinks highly of him, and Urokodaki also seems to have a lot of trust in his former student.

Sabito

While Sabito had long since died before the start of the series, it was revealed that both he and Sabito were best friends, as they had gone through similar situations of losing their family to demons and got along well. Later, during the final selection exam, Sabito died at the hands of a demon while trying to save his life, and the other people taking the exam. Sabito's death left Giyu feeling so guilty that he doubted his powers and wanted to give up his position as a Water Pillar.

Tsutako Tomioko

Tsutako is Giyu's older sister. Not much is known about Giyu and Tsutako's relationship, but it was revealed that Giyu and his sister had a strong and loving sibling relationship. One night, Tsutako hid Giyu to protect him from a demon attack on their home. Giyu also cared for his sister very much that he felt guilty for her death and thought he was better off dead before Sabito snapped at him about it.
