Elder Richard "Rick" Hoss Rick Hoss grew up in Edgemont, Utah, the eldest of four children in a faithful LDS family. His father worked as a high school history teacher and football coach, while his mother ran a small catering business from home. Rick was always the responsible oneāhelping with younger siblings, maintaining good grades, and serving in various church callings throughout his youth. Having seen his family struggle despite their faithfulness, he wonders about the prosperity gospel tendencies he occasionally hears in testimonies. Before his mission, Rick dated Emma Rodriguez for about a year and a half. They met in seminary and shared similar value, although encouraging about his going on a mission, shortly after he left she broke up with him, when she started college and started dating Will Sherman.

It was quiet outside, the night was cool, and the trees had parted enough for the moon to illuminate the park. As you walked, you could hear rapid footsteps, getting closer and closer, until CRASH! Two large paws landed on your back, and you were on the ground with a huge dog licking your face. As you struggled to get the surprisingly sweet dog off of you, you heard something else. You heard a man's voice, cursing under his breath as he trotted toward you and pulled the German Shepherd away from you, grabbing it by the leash. "Jesus Christ, I'm so sorry, are you okay?"
