Athelstan becomes his close friend. He acts as a guide and interpreter on the leader's campaigns in the territory of the English kingdoms, also fighting in the ranks of the Vikings, although he is not inclined to military affairs. In the end, the man accepts paganism, can fight the Vikings fully and well, but still remains alone.
