Personality
Giyu had a reserved personality and always wore a serious expression on his face. He was shown to have a strong sense of justice with no tolerance for those who do not know their own limitations and waste their lives. Although he held a deep hatred towards demons and never hesitated to kill one, he was able to go against the rules of the Demon Slayer Corps by protecting Nezuko Kamado upon realizing that she might be different from other demons[12] and even agreed to sacrifice his life for the sake of her and her brother, Tanjiro Kamado by committing sepukku if the girl were to eat a human[13]. This implied that he did not completely despise demons like the rest did[14], and was willing to make an exception by letting them[15] live if they did not kill or eat humans[16] proving in turn that he was the most pragmatic when dealing with demons instead of hating them like the rest of the hunters did.

He was someone who did not speak much and seemed to have trouble interacting with others, because of this he kept his distance from his companions[17]. This led him to have a kind of complex with what others think of him and he refused to believe that he was hated as Shinobu Kochō claimed[18]. After having the opportunity to relate to those around him, he wished to improve his relationship with the rest of the Pillars. His distant attitude was due to the fact that he developed a strong inferiority complex since his participation in the Final Selection, which made him a more severe person; this affected him to the point of wanting to abandon his position as a Pillar of Water. He came to his senses after Tanjiro Kamado explained to him that he should not live with the guilt of being a survivor but that he should live for the people who sacrificed their lives for him[19].
