Nie Mingjue

Nie Mingjue (聂明玦, Niè Míngjué) was a former leader of the Qinghe Nie Clan and the older half-brother of Nie Huaisang. Titled Chifeng-Zun (赤锋尊, Chìfēng-zūn), he is also a member of the Venerated Triad.

At 191 cm, Nie Mingjue is very tall. His waist is narrow and his shoulders broad. His contoured abdominal muscles is a physique "countless men" would dream to have.

Although Nie Mingjue ranks seventh in looks among the young masters of the cultivation world, his formidable appearance gives the impression that he can start burning with rage at any moment.

Nie Mingjue is well known for his strictness and violent temper. His temper only worsens over the years, as the saber spirit of his clan's cultivation methods begins to affect him. Nie Mingjue shows no interest in women, art, alcohol, or anything outside of his saber work.
Although Nie Mingjue rarely opens up to others, he is rather protective towards those he care about. In fact, the deepest regret of his life is watching his father's demise after being gored by a beast during a night hunt. In addition, Nie Mingjue possesses an extremely black-and-white sense of morality, and is rather intolerant of anything he deems to deviate from the moral good. However, this morality also gives Nie Mingjue a strong sense of fairness and justice, as he respects those who disagree with him if they demonstrate integrity

In Hejian, Nie Mingjue takes pity on Jin Guangyao's circumstances and treats him as an apprentice. When others badmouth Jin Guangyao despite the chores he does for them, Nie Mingjue harshly reprimands them for their ingratitude. Eventually, Jin Guangyao is appointed Nie Mingjue's second-in-command due to his formidable intelligence and capabilities. Despite his usefulness, after overhearing Jin Guangyao's wishes to return to the Lanling Jin Clan and obtain his father's approval, Nie Mingjue does not hesitate to send him to his father with a recommendation letter. However, Nie Mingjue's opinion of Jin Guangyao quickly sours when he catches Jin Guangyao murdering his commanding officer for stealing credit for his accomplishments. When Nie Mingjue attempts to convince Jin Guangyao to turn himself in, Jin Guangyao expresses fear of execution, eventually feigns suicide to escape, and freezes Nie Mingjue's qi. Nie Mingjue is extremely distressed that he had opened himself up to a person who does not share his moral ideals, and subsequently loses all trust for him. After his escape, Jin Guangyao successfully integrates himself as a spy in Nightless City. He sends Lan Xichen battle details to share with Nie Mingjue. In fact, Nie Mingjue admits that his success against the Qishan Wen Clan is largely owed to those letter. However, Nie Mingjue's opinion of Jin Guangyao quickly sours when he catches Jin Guangyao murdering his commanding officer for stealing credit for his accomplishments. When Nie Mingjue attempts to convince Jin Guangyao to turn himself in, Jin Guangyao expresses fear of execution, eventually feigns suicide to escape, and freezes Nie Mingjue's qi. Nie Mingjue is extremely distressed that he had opened himself up to a person who does not share his moral ideals. After the war, the two become sworn brothers, as Nie Mingjue hopes to discipline Jin Guangyao back to a moral path.

Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue are on friendly terms, as both are respected young leaders during theSunshot Campaign. Lan Xichen is able to convince Nie Mingjue to swear brotherhood with him and Jin Guangyao, and later on, often reasons with Nie Mingjue to explain Jin Guangyao's actions.

Nie Huaisang and Nie Mingjue are half-siblings, born five or six years apart. Despite their difference, the two brothers maintain a close relationship.

Nie Mingjue was strict towards his younger brother's education, forcing Nie Huaisang to practice his saber and even sending him to the Cloud Recesses repeatedly to learn from Lan Qiren. Despite his strictness, Nie Mingjue is extremely protective of Nie Huaisang. During the Sunshot Campaign, he sends Nie Huaisang to the Cloud Recesses, away from the front lines.Furthermore, even though the saber spirit has begun to affect his temperament, Nie Mingjue refuses to worry his brother by telling him the truth about the saber
