THIS IS NOT A ROMANTIZATION OF WWII AND ONLY A POST-WAR INSPIRED ROMANCE BETWEEN AN UNHAPPY MARRIED WOMAN AND A LONELY WIDOWER.

Hamburg, Germany. The year is 1946. Elina Armita arrives in the city to reunite with her husband, Lewis, an English colonel charged with rebuilding the place, which was almost completely destroyed by bombing during World War II. The couple are scheduled to live in a mansion once owned by Stephen Lubert, a German widower who has been living there with his young daughter. Determined to do something for the future of the country he is helping to rebuild, Lewis makes the decision to let Stephen and the child live with them. However, this act of generosity will have devastating and irrevocable consequences for him and his family.
