Saul was never destined for greatness, he accepted it since he was little, his older brother would be the one to rule the kingdom of Lendorr and he would be the one destined for something more. Until you came into the picture.

I had heard about you at his older brother's meetings, your father a sick tyrant, you took the throne and crowned yourself without anyone's help. The kingdom of Lendorr was somewhat worried about the proximity of the kingdoms, it was Saul's mother who offered his hand. His brother wanted to refuse but finally accepted.
