The story begins by introducing us to the protagonist, who is a very vulnerable girl, and as the song says "you try to explain but before you start, those cry baby tears come out of the dark". The song is taken from someone else's perspective (3rd person) but as it progresses, Cry Baby begins to accept who she is, to the point in the song where she says: "I look at you and I see myself, Now I understand you better than anyone else, I've got that water faucet in my eyes So your tears are mine. They call me cry baby, But I don't give a shit".

This is where we are introduced to Cry Baby's family, sung from the perspective of her doll, with an alcoholic mom, a cheating dad, and a pothead brother. It's a family that appears to be perfect in the eyes of society, but in reality they are not, and almost no one seems to notice Cry Baby's presence.

The story of Dollhouse continues until Sippy Cup, where Cry Baby's mother, drunk and tired of her husband's infidelities with different women, decides to kill her husband and his lover. Cry Baby wakes up and realizes this, here comes the point where many theorize that Cry Baby's mother kills her own daughter, either by poisoning her or simply making her faint (which is the most likely).

Cry Baby goes to the carnival for the first time, where she meets a boy, she falls completely in love, but as she gets to know him better, she thinks that their relationship will go round and round like a carousel and will be a never-ending story.

Alphabet boy, is the nickname that Cry Baby gives to that boy, he always told her that she was a silly little girl and that she would never know how to write her own name, but Cry Baby realized that he was not the right boy, and she let herself be conquered by his external charms, so she told him to fuck off by writing the word "Fuck you" on the refrigerator.

She meets another boy named Johnny, invites him to play, but is afraid to reveal all her feelings for him, so she decides to wash her mouth with soap. Here many theorize that Cry Baby committed suicide. Which is not true.

Johnny and Cry Baby had a normal relationship, but she wanted to take it to the next step. The training wheels are a metaphor she uses to move forward in their relationship, but apparently Johnny was afraid. Cry Baby would help him keep pedaling.

On her birthday Cry Baby invited all her friends, of course also that boy. But time kept moving forward and nobody came, Cry Baby said it didn't matter, because there would be more cake for her, but inside she was crying, laughing, crying, she didn't know what to do anymore, she was living in hell, she went crazy and ended up sending everything to hell.

After her sad party, Cry Baby decides to make things better, but on the way she meets an ice wolf, who poisons her, causing her to faint so he can kidnap her.

The evil ice cream wolf asks for milk and cookies for a snack, Cry Baby has no choice but to make them, but he came up with a plan, he poisoned the cookies, causing the wolf to die and Cry Baby to finally be able to get out of there.

Cry Baby meets a boy who seems to be tired of his girlfriend who only wants him to play with her. She went through something similar and decides to make him fall in love with her so he can stay with her, but his girlfriend's beauty blinds him from Cry Baby's heart and love.

She realizes that physical appearance is something that attracts men. One day she was watching TV, where Mrs. Potato Head was showing her surgery program. She thought that she had to change so that someone would finally love her. She wanted to have prettier hair, bigger breasts, bigger lips, but she realized that that didn't work.

Cry Baby was a crazy, vulnerable girl, she put a lot into everything and no one thanked her for it. Who would want a girl like that? She realized that she didn't have to change, what if she was crazy? She loved herself just the way she was. Cry Baby finally accepts who she was and who she is.

Crybaby begins his studies at a K-12 institute, a place that portrays traditional North American education, especially in the 20th century, reflecting different social problems that are still present today, such as racism, gender roles, misogyny, bullying, and the abuse of power in the facilities, among other issues.

Here, students are introduced to established moral standards and are shaped to follow the same conduct. Boys wear blue pants and girls wear pink dresses, teachers are free to address students as they please, and a pledge of loyalty to the United States is recited aloud every day.

With her magical powers, Crybaby must survive and escape with her best friend Angelita from a system that punishes and judges anyone who deviates from the norm, whether physically or ideologically.

The film begins on the bus on the way to school, and while Wheels on the Bus plays, it tells us about everything that happens on the school bus while no one does anything. The only adult is the driver, who turns a blind eye to all the harassment that occurs during the trip, and he drives, ignoring the possibility that there may be people crying or teenagers smoking behind him.

As the story progresses, the protagonists meet other girls who have the same powers and discontents as them, so they join together to devise a plan to break free from the school. To do so, they must overthrow the alcoholic director and his arrogant son.

Also, it is necessary to free the rest of the students, who live in a state of hypnosis, since K-12 is full of nurses who drug the students for any slightest sign of rebellion to keep them pacified, in a state of control that prevents them from questioning the abuses in the institution.

Crybaby and her friends become increasingly stronger to counter both the authorities and the classmates who constantly belittle them. The girl we see at the end is no longer the same as at the beginning, because as the plot progresses Crybaby has gained the courage to do whatever she wants without caring about the opinion of others and observing the attitudes of those around her with a more critical eye.

At the end of this, Lilith, an angel, appears behind a large door. The girls begin to cross it. Angelita stops and asks Crybaby "Are you coming?" Ending and leaving us with the doubt of whether she crossed the portal or not (When starting Portals, we are confirmed that she did enter)
