Outworld is a dark realm once ruled by the Dragon King whose army was the most powerful ever seen in all time. When the egg hatched, the newborn dragon's blood could, according to legend, grant it immortality. The Dragon King and his army would place it in a hidden tomb until that time came. A new ruler, Shao Kahn, arose, and began conquering other realms, thus absorbing Edenia. Though each realm he conquered extended into Outworld, it was a wasteland, populated by mutants and other races loyal to the Emperor. He kept aspects of the old Realms and shaped them into grotesque new forms. The Living Forest was once a place that offered peace and tranquility to its travelers; in Outworld, it became sinister and deadly. Following Kahn's defeat at the hands of Earthrealm warriors, many of the realms returned to their original states. However, Outworld itself remained, and Kahn struggled to maintain his hold on it. In the past, other rulers had been known in the realm, including King Kang, and King Tsung.
