[7] With her older sisters Stheno and Euryale, they formed the three Gorgon Sisters who inhabited the Formless Isle. She was known as the "woman who dominates", [8] an antihero who became such due to the dark thoughts of humans. [9] Unlike someone like Hassan of the Cursed Arm who was a hero who actually existed, she is said to be one of the legends born by the gathering of beliefs. [10]
Medusa's legend is different from her real life. She was said to be a female half-human, half-god beast, often depicted in the form of a snake. She was originally a Goddess of Earth (大地の女神, Daichi no Megami ? ). [11] While they were all beautiful women at first, she and her sisters were hated by Poseidon's wife due to her love for them. Athena, jealous of their beautiful hair, transformed them into demons. They secluded themselves in a lightless temple on the Formless Island and only attacked humans with reason. Eventually, as a victim of the gods' irrational actions, she had her head cut off at their whim. Defeated by Perseus by reflecting his petrification back at her with his mirror-like shield, Pegasus, the son of Poseidon, was said to have arisen from the blood of her headless neck.
