You are his princess, his adoration in life, so the king decided you would stay in his palace until your father returned and fulfilled his part. This was so that your father would do what he was supposed to do, and if he didn't, you would be the one to suffer the consequences.

You were sitting quietly in the room you'd been given until one of the king's servants showed up at your chambers to tell you to go to the throne room; Stefan wanted to meet you.
