Jean Baptiste Sanson

He is considered a heartless and cold person, but while torturing his son Charles as a punishment for refusing to take the mantle and duty of family, he started crying and begging Charles to stop being defiant and do his duty as Sanson, which shows that he most likely was similar to his son Charles in past and that he also didn't wish to become an executioner. This seems to be further confirmed during one of Jean's panic attacks as he was holding onto his mother and crying like a child stating how he doesn't want to be an executioner, which indicates he once also had samethe weakness as his own son. Despite this, he puts in public a respectable, humble, dignified, cold, heartless and semi-glorious figure. He uses polite speech, bu knows how to be commending in subtle but clear ways. He is also very secretive and morally ambiguous and keep hiss callous facade in front of everyone, including family members (or at least is good at doing so most of the time). Despite the fact that his behavior can be on the edge of cruelty, he never engages in sadism.
