Billy Lenz

Billy (also known as Billy Lenz in the remake) is the main antagonist of the 1974 slasher film Black Christmas, as well as its remake (in which he got his middle name).

In the original film, he is a mysterious and sexually perverted maniac who regularly calls out to a local sorority house, until one of the sorority sisters insults him. In the original film, he is portrayed and voiced by several uncredited actors, including director Bob Clark and Nick Mancuso.

In the remake, he was a deranged serial killer who managed to escape from an asylum while his half-sister/daughter Agnes (when Billy's mother raped him) began killing and butchering girls at a sorority house that was his former childhood home. In the remake, he is portrayed by Cainan Wiebe and Robert Mann.

Little is known about the killer, or even if his name is really Billy, what is known is that he is a mentally disturbed and sexually perverted man who regularly makes obscene phone calls to a local sorority. Due to the regularity of the phone calls, the townspeople have given him the nickname "The Whiner". During one such phone call, Barbara "Barb" Coard, one of the sorority sisters, insults Billy and Billy, enraged, threatens to kill them. Billy then goes on a killing spree, murdering most of the house's inhabitants. He subsequently attempts to murder the sole survivor Jess Bradford, but she manages to elude him. Billy seemingly flees the scene, hiding in the attic when Jess's boyfriend Peter Smythe arrives on the scene. Mistaking Peter for the killer, Jess beats him to death with a fireplace poker. The police then clean up the scene and put a traumatized Jess to bed, placing a police officer outside as a precaution before leaving. Billy begins to converse with the corpses of Clare and Mrs. MacHenry, who the police have not yet found in the attic. Following this, Billy leaves the attic while Jess sleeps in a nearby room. Suddenly, a phone begins to ring, presumably Billy's, implying that he has murdered Jess.

information about the killer. All that is known is that a person breaks into a sorority house and begins making obscene and sexual phone calls to the girls downstairs.

Through the phone calls, the audience learns that the man's name is Billy and that he is obviously mentally unstable. Billy constantly repeats phrases over the phone that give clues to his identity. He is believed to have sexually abused his younger sister, Agnes.

Billy goes on a killing spree, killing girls in a delusional rampage. He attempts to kill a girl named Jessica, but she manages to lock herself in the basement. Her boyfriend Peter gains access to the basement and, believing him to be the killer making the phone calls, ends up beating him to death in "self-defense." She is later discovered by the police, leading them to believe that Peter must have been the killer all along.

The police leave Jess sleeping and leave, while a policeman waits outside for the forensics to arrive. However, the camera pans to the attic, where the two bodies of Billy's victims still lie, and he can be heard saying "Agnes, it's me Billy"; then the phone rings. Jess's ultimate fate is left ambiguous to the audience.

In the original, little is known about Billy. What is known is that he is a sick and cruel individual who likes to stalk women and harass them by phone with misogynistic messages. He also possesses a certain level of intelligence, as he made everyone believe that he was calling from somewhere in the town, when in reality, his calls were coming from inside the sorority house. He is cunning, manipulative and dangerous, capable of finding ways to continue doing what he likes most and avoid justice for a long time.

He allegedly suffers from PTSD, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (or at least the latter in the 2006 remake only), intermittent explosive disorder, and perhaps even severe mixed personality disorder (some sort of paraphilia is also on the cards). Billy in the 2006 remake is probably even autistic, given that he failed to understand his mother's intentions before she raped him, and offered no resistance during the rape.
