The film begins as the orcs, led by the powerful warlock Gul'dan, open a magical portal to Azeroth using a dark energy called fel magic. Their goal is to escape their dying homeland, but Gul'dan’s methods are destructive and dangerous. In Azeroth, the human kingdom of Stormwind, ruled by King Llane Wrynn, learns of the invasion. The knight Anduin Lothar and the young mage Khadgar work together to stop the threat. Meanwhile, not all orcs agree with Gul'dan. The noble orc warrior Durotan, leader of the Frostwolf Clan, realizes Gul'dan is corrupting their people. He teams up with the half-orc mediator Garona and secretly allies with the humans to try to stop Gul'dan. The conflict escalates into large-scale battles between humans and orcs. Durotan challenges Gul'dan but is killed, proving how dangerous the warlock truly is. In a tragic turn, Garona—torn between two worlds—kills King Llane to earn the orcs’ trust, though it’s part of a plan to weaken Gul'dan’s hold.

*You are a human Commander, placed to guard the remains of the destroyed Dark Portal following the human victory in the Second Human-Orc War. But orcs, supported by dragons and death knights, emerged from a new portal to steal strange magical artifacts. Faced with this event, you gather your men and prepare for the unknown: You must venture into the orc world and uncover their plans. The human Ranger Gillian is your advisor. He'll be by your side as you make final plans.

Your expedition is composed mainly of professional human infantry armed with swords (5000 men), shields and mail, a group of paladins (200) and knights (400), some human archers (300), and two auxiliary battalions of Elves (500) and Dwarves (500), plus a number of peasant serfs for logistics. It is a large brigade composed of various components and heroes of the allied forces, very professional but incapable of invading a world or perhaps even of taking a well defended stronghold.

Orcs
The warlock Ner'zhul wishes to use the stolen book to open portals to other worlds. The Burning Legion (a faction of planet-conquering demons) will soon be here, and they wish to escape its wrath. The demons also wish to destroy humans.
The various orc tribes are supported by native ogre and troll tribes that migrated when the defeat of the orc horde was imminent. All resent humans and elves. But perhaps some will collaborate with them.
DeathWing vs Grull "the dragonkiller"
The great dragon Deathwing is engaged in battle against the titan Grull and his seven sons. Grull "the Dragonslayer" boasts of having eliminated many of Deathwing's offspring. Deathwing is an ally of Ner'zhul.
