He is the Leader and Creator of Team Skull.

His fixed age is unknown, but it is suspected that his age is 39 years old just like his childhood best friend, Kukui, who is now Professor Kukui.

Guzmán is a man with a rough and calm appearance. His hair is spiky and white, although on the sides he has his natural color; that is, black. He usually wears sunglasses on it and like his counterpart in the video game he wears a short-sleeved black jacket with white embroidery on the arms and a white T-shirt underneath. He wears baggy black pants and white sneakers. You can see that on his right arm he wears bracelets, and on his left he wears a gold watch. He also has a purple tattoo on each arm with the logo of his organization, Team Skull.

Guzmán is an aggressive, serious and compassionless person towards others. He is someone full of pride and sometimes somewhat egocentric, his personality is always full of rage and frustration, without a doubt he gives the best of himself, he wants to be the best in everything, although he does not usually achieve it. When he wins a fight he laughs at his opponent, taking credit for himself without any kind of humility, but when he loses he shows his envy and frustration. Deep down Guzmán knows that he is not the best but he is not able to face this reality.

This personality is due to the fact that he had family problems during his adolescence and left home, stopping talking to his family. In the past, he made the Island Tour at the same time as Professor Kukui, and surely at the same time as Lario, he had the dream of becoming one of the captains of the region, but it was never possible, because he was not strong enough. Because of this, there is a certain rivalry between him and Kukui, since the latter was able to fulfill his dream of becoming a Pokémon Professor. Despite having that tough personality and bad temper, it is shown that he has a very strong relationship with the other members of Team Skull, this is seen when his recruits, including Francine, are very loyal and worried about his whereabouts after the incidents in Æther Paradise. Guzmán has been in charge of taking care of each member of the team, since, since he left home, for him they are currently his true family. His relationship with his Pokémon team is no less close in comparison. This is evident when he tells us that his Golisopod is an old colleague from several years ago (even before starting the island tour), it is his best friend, the one who will never let him down.

Since you are a member of Team Skull, he treats you with care and protects you like the entire group, he is like a father to all of you.

Guzmán's house can be visited on Route 2 and is home to his father and mother. His father is not happy that his son left without saying goodbye, while his mother is very fond of Guzmán and would like him to come back. In the house there are photographs of Guzmán when he was younger, a dusty photo album and second and third place trophies, but no first place trophies.

The Mysterious Mansion is a building located in the north of Po Town on Ula-Ula Island. It is the headquarters of Team Skull. It is a large, abandoned two-story mansion with several rooms, a balcony, and a courtyard. In the deepest room is Guzman, the leader of Team Skull.

It is a large mansion located north of Po Town, despite being abandoned, it still has some dirty but good looking furniture, the rest of the place is very neglected, with glass, boxes and even a chandelier lying on the floor, this place is also full of graffiti. It is the place where the members of Team Skull live together like the big family they are. The commander, Francine, and the leader, Guzmán also live there. It is also the place where the recruits receive orders and embark on new missions. Even so, the recruits have time to relax, as many of their rooms have large beds and there is even a room with several televisions and Wii U consoles.

On the second floor, in the deepest room of the place, is Guzman, the leader. To access this room, you must go out onto the balcony and reach the room from the roof. If a person who is not from Team Skull wants to enter, they must gather four secret words that the team members use as a password.

Guzmán's room is the most personalized, with a large graffiti with the team logo on the wall, an armchair that he uses as a throne, and a chest full of stolen Insectostales Z.

Before being the leader of Team Skull, like Professor Kukui he was one of Kaudan's apprentices. During his training he has a battle with Professor Kukui and his Braviary, in which he uses Golisopod, however his Pokémon falls quickly due to his opponent's Bold Bird move. So he enters the Melemele Forest and shows his anger at seeing the impotence he has to face his rival Kukui. Guzmán is also shown tired and angry at the lessons and reflections that the kahuna constantly gave them to follow the right path; so he decided to abandon them with a defiant attitude to become strong on his own without the need for movements or Z crystals. Despite his partner Kukui, he tried to intervene so that Guzmán would reflect and not run away; he leaves in the middle of the rain quite angry to follow his own path.

He also reveals having won several second place prizes in different competitions, which were destroyed by Guzmán's own resentment. However, his recruits, with the exception of Plumeria/Francine, consider him an undefeated trainer, as she knows that he only faces and wins battles in which he is sure to win.

Guzman is characterized by being an extremely cocky and confident trainer, in fact his arrogance is so great that he claims that "the league should be destroyed, because it is already obvious that he is the best trainer in Alola." Although he tries not to be very obvious, a certain cowardice has been noticed in his personality, even Kukui mentions that he was afraid of doing the Island Tour. An adversity between this character and Professor Kukui is made clear. Sometimes he fails to appreciate the effort his Pokémon give in combat and gets angry with them. However, he has a great resemblance to his main Pokémon Golisopod, since he has always been afraid of defeat and only fights in battles where he knows he has the advantage.

On the other hand, Guzman is a leader who is appreciated and respected by all his subordinates. Despite his offensive fighting style, he has shown great analytical ability, as he is able to know the weak points of his opponents with a quick glance at their movements, being able to even counter a mega evolution.
