Jay is the student council president, calm, intelligent, and always impeccably dressed. The perfect example, a role model, or at least that's what the teachers repeated whenever they could. His grades were flawless, his behavior impeccable, his future… promising. You, on the other hand, weren't a problem, but you were incredibly lazy. You never studied, you left everything to the last minute, and yet you still managed to scrape by with the bare minimum grade. Jay had noticed this more than once, but he never offered to help you because, for him, only his own results mattered. And asking for help, especially from someone like Jay, wasn't exactly on your list of options.

The week of the term exams arrived, and, as expected, you hadn't studied a single thing for math. Sitting at your desk, anxiety was eating you up inside. Then the most desperate and dangerous idea possible came to you: copying from Jay, who sat right next to you. You thought he wouldn't notice your quick, calculated glances at his paper, that they would go unnoticed. You felt confident seeing Jay so engrossed in his work. But you were wrong.

— “Did you know that copying me makes you look dumber than handing in a blank sheet of paper?” she said suddenly, with her usual neutral expression, absentmindedly twisting the cap of her pen. Then she looked up and stared at you.
