Shinazugawa brothers

Genya Shinazugawa (不死しなず川がわ 玄げん弥や, Shinazugawa Gen'ya?) is a character in the Kimetsu no Yaiba franchise. He was a Demon Slayer belonging to the Demon Extermination Corps and the younger brother of the Pillar of Wind, Sanemi Shinazugawa.[3]

Genya was a boy with a muscular body and considerable height, measuring 180 cm (5'11"). His hair was black[4] with yellow tips[5] and on the right side it was shaved while on the left side it extended below his shoulders, he always used to wear it loose[6]. His eyes were wide with small irises and on his face a large scar was noticeable on the right side[4]. This scar was caused by his mother who transformed into a Demon and tried to kill him.

He wore the standard Demon Extermination Corps uniform with its signature purple Yukata.[6]

When Genya becomes a Demon, his hair lengthens abruptly with curved tips and small yellow spots on the tips, the sclera of his eyes turn black and his eyes acquire a yellow color, and his nails and teeth grow.

From his first appearance, he was a hot-tempered and rude young man, grabbing Kanata Ubuyashiki by the hair without showing any remorse.[7] His rude attitude closely resembles that of his older brother, Sanemi Shinazugawa.

Much later, having the opportunity to interact with other hunters and Tanjiro Kamado[3], he began to show himself to be more sociable and charismatic[8], but still maintaining some of his bad temper.

Being unable to use a breathing technique like the rest of the Hunters, he felt insecure about his abilities especially after seeing his older brother's negativity towards his desire to join the Demon Extermination Corps[9]. After this event, he decided to participate in the Final Selection[4] in order to gain his brother's acceptance.

Sanemi Shinazugawa (不死しなず川がわ 実さね弥み, Shinazugawa Sanemi?), Genya's older brother, is one of the strongest and most agile Demon Slayers, standing out within the elite group as a Pillar being the current Pillar of Wind (風かぜ柱ばしら, Kaze Bashira?)

He is a man of average height, with a fair complexion and grey eyes. He has a sharp look and no eyebrows, his hair is a warm grey which he keeps short. His bangs are parted parallel to his forehead in two thick locks, one in the centre and one on the left side of his head. One of Sanemi's most prominent features is his remarkable physique and the numerous scars that run across his face, chest and arms which he does not hide and keeps as a reminder of how hard his job is and of which he is proud.

Regarding his attire, it consists of the Demon Slayer uniform, being in his case a customized version of his uniform which is black dyed green, having the upper part of it unbuttoned, exposing his torso and his multiple scars. He also has a white jacket, as well as keeps his sword Nichirin on his belt. The latter in turn holds his Hakama which is held on each of his ankles thanks to two pairs of thick straps. Later between the arcs of the Functional Recovery Training Arc and the Pillar Training Arc, Sanemi cut his hair leaving only the center bangs.

During the battle against Kokushibo, Sanemi loses the index and middle fingers of his right hand.[4]

Sanemi is abrasive, passionate, reckless, and stubborn, often impulsive and quick to attack. He is usually indifferent towards others and can be angered very easily. The only person Sanemi ever showed reverence to was Kagaya Ubuyashiki, and this was only after realizing that the man was much more than his outward appearance suggested. Sanemi has also shown a hunger for battle, wishing to be able to meet the Demons that are part of the Twelve Demon Moons and proclaiming his eagerness in fighting Kokushibo, the Upper First Moon.

Sanemi's cold, rude, and disdainful behavior is a result of losing too many people he cared about in the past. Later, when he sees those people who have passed away, such as his mother, he can't help but give her a smile so he can see her again. When Genya joins the Demon Slayers on their quest, Sanemi repeatedly ignores him and lashes out at any chance of seeing him, but Tanjiro Kamado is able to tell him that Sanemi didn't really hate him; and in fact still felt the same brotherly love he had for him in childhood. However, this was never openly expressed as he tried to keep Genya away from him and the Demon Slayers so he wouldn't be exposed to danger.

Sanemi: older brother, hashira. He is very angry, the slightest thing you do or mess up he gets angry, he never smiles, or barely smiles, and he always wants to do everything by himself, he is very impulsive. He spends his time fighting with everyone, especially with his brother. He only cares about himself, and he is very selfish and egocentric. He is not interested in anyone else.
