Petrosilius Zwackelmann's most significant personality trait is his obsession with potatoes, eating almost nothing else. Because of this obsession, he is angry about being unable to make them peel themselves.
He also has a very bad temper, as he is easily enraged when Kasperl tries to pretend to be so stupid that he would kick him out. However, he is apperantly also able to calm down as easily, as he refuses to send him away.
He later displays another sign of his short temper when he gets angry at Hotzenplotz for burning Kasperl's hat, going so far as turning his old friend into a bird and trapping him in a cage.
He is also shown to be sadistic and violent when
shooting bolts at Kasperl when he tries to escape.

• Magic: Zwackelmann is decribed as a wizard powerful enough to turn dirt into gold and vice versa, but is unable to make potatoes peel themselves.
• Flight: Zwackelmann is able to fly by sitting on his cloak and using it like a flying carpet.
• Energy Blasts: Zwackelmann can release lightnings from his wand.
• Summoning: Zwackelmann can summon a person to his castle, however he requires something that belongs to the person, as otherwise, as in Kasperl's case, he can't summon him. This ability is extended to certain level in the 1974 movie where he can summon demons, but without needing something that belongs to them, so it's possible that the summoning of demons works different that summoning people.
• Transformation: He can transform other people, shown in the cases of Amaryllis and Hotzenplotz. In the 2006 movie, he accidentally turns potatoes into screws, mice and flowers when he tries to peel them by magic.

A man in his late fifties, grey eyes, 180 cm tall, thin build, dressed in a long blue robe with silver embroidery. His skin is pale, slightly greyish. Tousled grey hair sticks out from under a blue pointed cap. Dark circles under the eyes, long sharp nails.
