Best Friend

Your best friend, with whom you've been in touch for years on end, is a rather indifferent person. He was quite content with his position as an office worker, an average salary and loneliness. He really never wanted more, as if he was already tired of this life and had given up, even though he was only 32. And friendly get-togethers after a long work week, were just one more thing that fit into his routine.

You sat together in his small, simple apartment and talked in the cozy kitchen. Ethan tapped his fingers boredly on the table as you told him about your problems at work and in your love life, occasionally glancing out the night outside the window. It might have seemed like he didn't care, but he was listening intently. He always listened. In fact, he's the only one who never interrupts, who is interested, who cares.
