Appearance and Character When Alina first comes under the care of Prince Keramzov, she is a quiet and strange girl. The Duke's housekeeper Ana Kuya even says that she is ugly, calling Alina "pale and sour", like an upturned glass of milk. As a child, Alina was very frail and sickly, never able to run as fast as her friend Mal. As a teenager, Alina is described as a skinny girl with dull brown hair and dark circles under her eyes. This changes after her arrival at the Small Palace, where Alina's appearance becomes healthier and more beautiful. Her distinguishing feature is a scar that crosses her right palm.
Later, she wears Morozov's deer antlers and a sea serpent scale bracelet around her neck. However, after losing her powers, the amplifiers are destroyed.
After using the filth, her hair turns white.
Story Alina was born very close to the southern border with Shukhan, and it is possible that she has some Shukhan ancestry. Like Mal, Alina's family likely perished during the border wars. She spent most of her childhood in Keramzin before being taken to Prince Keramzov's orphanage.
When she was sixteen, Alina and Mal were trained as soldiers of the First Army at the Poliznaya military post. A year later, Alina and her regiment went to Kribirsk to cross the Shadow Canyon. At the Count's residence, Alina and Mal were examined by Grisha, but they showed no signs of ability. As teenagers, they joined the army, and Alina became a junior assistant cartographer.
While crossing the Fold, Alina's regiment is attacked and Mal is nearly killed. Before they can be attacked again, Alina suddenly releases a burst of light to save Mal, revealing herself to be a Sun Summoner, a type of Grisha thought to be extinct. While some of the Darkling's men escort them to Os Alta, Alina's group is attacked by Fjerdan assassins and she is forced to flee. The Darkling saves her from the assassins and brings her to the Little Palace himself to meet the king and queen. Alina then spends her days learning from Baghra how to use her power and from Botkin Yul-Erdene, a Shu combat instructor, how to fight. While studying at the Little Palace, Alina grows increasingly close to the Darkling and eventually begins a romantic relationship with him. They become increasingly close because Alina never receives a response to any of her letters from Mal, and losing Mal also makes Alina finally realize the extent of her powers. During a celebration at the Little Palace, Alina suddenly sees Mal. He is tracking a stag for the Darkling, who wants to give the antlers to Alina as a power-up. She learns that he has never received any of her letters, but is hurt when he is cold to her. She later learns that it is because he sensed jealousy,
jealousy after seeing her perform on stage with the Darkling. That same night, Baghra comes to Alina and orders her to leave the palace. The Darkling's plan all along was to use Alina's powers to drive away the volcra in the Fold so he could use his own powers to expand it and take over all the lands. Realizing Baghra was telling the truth, Alina runs away and eventually meets Mal by chance. The two go looking for the stag before the Darkling can and become close again before confessing their love for each other. After finding the stag, the Darkling then finds them and ends up killing the stag itself to take control of Alina. He then decides that Mal will be fed to the volcra after Alina helps him cross the Fold.
After Alina demonstrates her powers in the Fold to the horrified ambassadors and villagers, the Darkling throws Mal out of the boat, but this triggers something in Alina and breaks the hold the Darkling has over her. She escapes with Mal after destroying the boat they arrived on. When the first book ends, the two are on another boat crossing the True Sea together, far away from Ravka and the Darkling. Alina and Mal end up in the town of Cofton, hiding and trying to find work to earn money for their trip to the West. They stay there for two weeks, but while Mal thrives in their midst, Alina has become weak from not using her power. When they return to their boarding house, they are unexpectedly confronted by the Darkling and his Grisha. He eventually captures them both, but not before showing Alina the new power he gained in the Fold because of her; He is now able to create shadow creatures called Nicho'ya.
Alina wakes up on the ship of a corsair named Sturmhond. The Darkling has paid him in exchange for his services aboard the ship. His goal is to find the sea whip, another supposedly magical creature, as well as a powerful amplifier. The Darkling wants to give the second amplifier
Alina, and he's going to use Mal to find him.
After receiving the amplifier and Sturmhond's rebellion, Alina escapes with them and returns to Ravka. When Sturmhond reveals himself to be Nikolai Lantsov, the youngest son of the King of Ravka, she tells him she wants to lead the Second Army, and they return to Os Alta together, gathering large crowds along the way. Nikolai proposes marriage to Alina, but she declines.
Alina arrives in Os Alta and quickly takes control of the Second Army. She frequently has visions starring the Darkling. Vasily Lantsov opened a trade pass as a treaty for an alliance with Fjerdo, but the Darkling instead uses it to access Os Alta and attack. During the Darkling's attack on Os Alta, he reveals that he sicced the Nizhnyaya on Zhenya Safina for sparing Alina. Alina fights him and uses a corruption that turns her hair white and nearly drains her power, defeating them both. This leaves her nearly dead and the Darkling gravely wounded. She flees to the White Cathedral with the others. Alina spent two months in the underground tunnels of Ravka. She was under the control of the Apparat, who leads a cult convinced that Alina is a saint. As a result of her battle with the Darkling, Alina's hair turned white and she became weak from being away from the sunlight and her powers for so long.
However, Mal and the other Grishas come up with a plan that brings Alina back into contact with sunlight and restores her powers. She leaves the Apparat and goes to the surface in search of the Firebird. She, the other Grishas, and Mal reach the surface, but are soon discovered by militias. Nikolai saves them with a new, airship-like invention. He leads them to a mountain where the remnants of the First Army and some Grisha fugitives live.
There, Alina meets Bagra again, who teaches her how to use the Slash to slice off the top of an entire mountain. She tells Alina about her father, Morozov, and how the Darkling is his last descendant. Nikolai also tells her of their future as the king and queen of Ravka, and gives her his mother's family ring. Alina refuses to wear it, as she still wants Mal, but keeps the ring anyway.
Later, the Darkling and the Oprichniki attack the mountain. He turns Nikolai into a Niktoya and forces Alina, Mal, and the Grisha to flee. They fly south to find the Firebird. Along the way, Alina learns how to bend light around an object to make it invisible. Once they reach the southern mountains, Mal tracks down the Firebird. However, once he finds it, it attacks him and Alina. Holding on to Mal, Alina realizes that he is giving her power and that he is the third amplifier, not the Firebird. She does not want to kill Mal for his power, but he makes her promise to do so if there is no other way. As they return to the ship, Alina communicates with the Darkling. He tells her that he has invaded Keramzin and has taken the students hostage. He tells her to surrender in five days or he will expand the Fold through West Ravka and to the sea. Alina knows she can't face the Darkling without the third amplifier, but David has an idea that doesn't require a direct confrontation.
They travel to the Fold and gather a dozen soldiers who worship Alina. There is a short period of preparation and rest, during which Nikolai appears to Alina. The part of him that is human struggles with his hunger, but he is unable to resist and leaves before he can do any harm. They enter the Fold to confront the Darkling. The battle goes well at first; Alina refracts the light she creates to make her fighters invisible. However, once they board the Darkling's skiff, she realizes that he has not taken the students hostage - it was simply a ruse to attract her.
her to himself. Two other Scythians also arrive, loaded with soldiers.
Alina knows she cannot fight the Darkling with only two amplifiers. She runs into the darkness where Mal finds her. He gives her a knife and urges her to kill him. She stabs him in the chest and he collapses. With the death of the third amplifier, Alina's power suddenly leaves her and manifests in any normal person within a few miles. The Darkling is furious and saddened at having lost his Sun Summoner, and while he is distracted, Alina kills him with the same knife she used on Mal. The newly minted Sun Summoners destroy the Fold and also restore Nikolai to his former self. Tolya and Tamara manage to save Mal. However, Alina has lost her power. She fakes her death and claims a new identity. She and Mal marry and rebuild the orphanage in Keramzin, which was destroyed by the Darkling. Over the years they have been taking in children and keeping in touch with other Grishas and Nikolai. Relationship Malien Oretsev Mal is Alina's childhood friend. They both grew up as orphans on Prince Keramzov's estate in Keramzin. Alina believes she is in love with him, but Mal seems oblivious to her infatuation. She is unable to express her feelings to him, and is later taken away by the Darkling to train as Grisha. After Alina escapes the Little Palace, they reunite for a time before being captured by the Darkling. During their short time together, Mal confesses his feelings for her and they share their first kiss. Later, when they are at the Darkling's camp in Kribirsk, they share several more kisses through Mal's prison bars and hold hands until the morning, when Alina is taken from him to prepare for their journey to the Shadow Fold. When the Darkling leaves Mal to die in the canyon, Alina takes control of the amplifier and escapes with it, abandoning the humans on the skiff and leaving them exposed to the volcra. When Mal and Alina reach the True Sea, they set off to
They set sail for Cofton. There they begin a new life together.
In Siege and Storm, Mal tracks down and finds the Seawhip, a second amplifier for Alina. After Alina puts on the second amplifier, she and Mal slowly drift apart. Mal feels that he doesn't belong with Alina because she is getting stronger every day. He believes that she won't care about him after she finds all three amplifiers. Later, Alina catches Mal and Zoe kissing. Mal suddenly notices an enraged Alina and follows her as she runs away. When the Darkling infiltrates the palace, Alina uses the Corruption to weaken the Darkling, thus weakening herself as well. Just when she and the Darkling are about to be destroyed, Mal takes Alina away out of fear that she might die. This act strengthens Mal and Alina's relationship.
In Ruin and Rising, Mal and Alina's relationship is tested as Mal believes that Alina must marry Prince Nikolai to save the kingdom and unite the people of Ravka, though Alina is unsure of what she wants or what is best. Mal remains indifferent for most of the book and only speaks to Alina as a guard, though they have reconciled by the end of the book.
In the epilogue, Mal and Alina marry under different names and reopen the orphanage where they grew up, Keramzin.
Darkling Alina is immediately drawn to the Darkling's mysterious appearance and handsome features. For Alina's first caftan, the Darkling wants the material to match his own black robes ― something no other Grisha has ever been allowed to do ― but Alina declines in favor of the blue of the Summoners because she does not want to stand out. Although she puzzles over the meaning behind the Darkling's offer for a long time afterward. Later, as they discuss her abilities on the frozen shore of a lake, he suddenly leans down and kisses her, leaving Alina stunned. They do not discuss it because Ivan appears at that moment. After this incident, he seems to ignore her until the night of the winter fete, to which she wears a black caftan bearing the Darkling's symbol, where they perform a demonstration together for the amusement of the crowd. Immediately after, he leads Alina to a small plinth, where he begins to kiss her. They are interrupted by a drunken group of people who stumble upon the closed door where the Darkling had pinned Alina before it went too far. Before leaving for the council, he turns and asks if he can come to her that evening, but she doesn't answer, too embarrassed by what they did.
When Alina learns of the Darkling's true intentions to manipulate her and her power from the Baghra, she is left unsure if his feelings for her were genuine. It later becomes apparent that, if not love, then a deep physical and mental attraction to her has persisted throughout the series. Later, when he captures Alina and Mal in Tsibeya, he openly taunts her about what they did to shame her and anger Mal. When they reach the Darkling's camp in Kribirsk, he calls Alina into his tent to talk. He then tells her that he will throw Mal overboard the ship to be devoured by the volcra when they enter the Fold. She begs him to spare Mal's life, saying she will gladly grant his wish if he does.
He tells her that he will show mercy to Mal, and then kisses her. She is disgusted, but makes no move to push him away, out of fear of punishment and the strange pull his power has on her. When he pulls away, he tells her that she can visit Mal in his prison cell, because that will be the last time she will see him alive, because the next day will be his last. Realizing that the Darkling has broken his promise of mercy, she lunges at him screaming, but his men drag her away before she can hurt him. In the second book, after escaping from him for the second time, Alina mysteriously begins seeing the Darkling everywhere. At first she thought they were just visions, but then she realized that she could feel his touch, and that he was really there. During one of his dreamlike visits, he wears Mal's face and kisses her in bed, knowing she would scream if he showed up with his own face. When they meet in the chapel, he tells her that her visions were real and promises he will never turn away from who she really was because they were alike like no other. She then pretends to accept his peace offer and kisses him, distracting him enough to steal his Nizhnegoya through their bond and tries to kill them both, but fails. Alina then visits him in his dreams. She talks to him to try to find out information. He offers her the throne standing next to him, despite her trying to kill him. He tells her that she should be his balance and that it could make him a better man, to which she replies that he could make her a monster instead. After a while, the Darkling tells Alina his true name, causing her to laugh lightheartedly because it was too common. He then smiles, pulls Alina towards him and kisses her, wrapping his arms around her waist, telling her to let him do it since it wasn't real.
Alina didn't pull away right away because they both wanted each other, despite what had happened recently.
At the end of Ruin and Rising, the Darkling panics and suffers over Alina's loss of power, realizing that she was no longer his balance and he was truly alone in the world. He was distracted enough by his grief to allow her to stab him in the heart. Alina killed the Darkling with the same knife she "killed" Mal with. She cried over his body and obeyed his request not to bury him, lest people desecrate his grave. The Darkling's corpse is later burned. Although Alina eventually mourned the Darkling's death a little, she did not entirely regret her decisions. Alina whispers his true name over his body. Nikolai Lantsov The developing relationship between Alina and Nikolai becomes a theme when they arrive at court. He asks her to be his queen in front of Mal, but she refuses, but says she trusts him. Their loyalty develops quickly, and Nikolai reveals to his parents for the first time that he is Sturmhond, then supports Alina and Mal when they face the king. Alina becomes the head of the Grisha (Second Army), as she wanted, and Mal is appointed her chief guard. Tolya and Tamara, the twins from Sturmhond's ship, make up the rest of her guard. She takes over the Darkling's old quarters while Nikolai settles into court. Nikolai kisses Alina in front of the crowd to appeal to the audience and make a big show. Alina, not yet accustomed to the change in his personality, kicks him in fear that Mal might be angry. She could not afford for Mal to be angry with her and walk out of her life. Alina and Nikolai present themselves as a united front, attending meetings together. Vasiliy proposes to Alina that she marry him, as his brother did. She refuses any familiarity with him and over time begins to treat Nikolai more and more kindly. But not in a romantic sense, because she did not want to upset Mal. Although she admits that it is difficult to trust him, Nikolai, since it is unclear,
Whether he is ever truly himself or simply wearing the mask he thinks she wants to see, she spends more and more time talking to him. For his part, Nikolai seems to become more vulnerable around her than he is around anyone else. Eventually, he even seems willing to talk to her about personal matters. He again addresses the rumors that he is a bastard, admitting to Alina that he has heard these rumors all his life and may not be as indifferent to them as he seems. He refers to his childhood nickname, "Puppy", and says that his mother refused to call him that because she thought it made him look like a mongrel. Alina, who grew up an orphan, finds common ground with him on this subject, as she remembers being called many names herself. She becomes angry when she hears that people doubt his birth, even when they are strangers, to the point that Mal furiously asks her why she is so protective of Nikolai. Nikolai has risen in Alina's estimation. At this point, she seems to him not only as an ally, but as a friend, and possibly as a lover. At the same time, Alina's relationship with Mal - theoretically still her romantic partner - has been deteriorating. Mal clearly dislikes this Little Palace, and has doubts about how powerful Alina is becoming and whether it is changing her. Alina, who doubts this herself, feels a growing distance between herself and Mal, and she is also suffering from her ongoing "visions" with the Darkling. She seems, overall, to be more at ease in Nikolai's company. They are becoming increasingly closer. As his birthday approaches, he even approaches her to kiss her, telling her that he wants to, but will not until he is sure that she is not simply trying to forget Mal.
Zhenya Safina Zhenya is Alina's first friend in the Little Palace. She becomes very close to Alina in Shadow and Bone, but betrays her in the end, revealing herself to be a fake that the Darkling made to be her friend in order to attract her and make her feel comfortable (and gather information). Zhenya actually enjoyed being her friend, and missed Alina when she ran away. Alina missed her too. During Siege and Storm, when Alina escaped from the Darkling, she had the chance to shoot Alina and stop her and Sturmhond, but she didn't and helped her, and was later punished for it. The next time she appears, she is covered in scars and has lost an eye. The Darkling gives Zhenya to the Second Army to show that he has no mercy. Zhenya then helps Alina, and they become close friends again. At the end of Ruin and Rising, Alina made her one of the new leaders of the Second Army. Zhenya is a Tailor, a Grisha type who is somewhere between Corporals and Substantials.
Grisha is a person who practices the Small Science.
Grisha are divided into three orders: Corporal, Ethereal, and Substantial, with each order further divided into special groups, but sometimes among the Grisha there are those with extremely rare abilities, such as the ability to summon light, like Alina Starkova, or darkness, like the Darkling. Both are classified as Ethereals and are included in the Ethereal order. Most Grisha show their powers at a young age. A special test is used to determine whether children have special powers. To detect talent, the Grisha who tests uses pain, but the test can be fooled by inflicting other pain on oneself to distract oneself. If the child shows talent, he is sent for training. Many Grisha eventually join the army. Army Grisha wear a uniform, the color of the main caftan and the color of the trim of which makes it easy to determine which order the Grisha belongs to.
Ravka relies on the Grisha for its safety from its enemies. The Second Army is composed entirely of Grisha, and was briefly led by the Darkling, as well as Sun Summoner Alina Starkov. Although Grisha fight in most of Ravka's wars and inflict the most damage on its enemies, they are considered witches and corrupt sorcerers and are viewed with suspicion and distrust by humans, including those who serve in the First Army. Following the Sun Summoner's rebellion, a tentative alliance was formed between the First and Second Armies, which still despise each other. Both armies served under the official, if somewhat superficial, command of King Alexander III before Nikolai Lantsov inherited the Ravkan throne. Ravka also recruits Grisha from other lands, primarily Fjerda, Novyi Zem, and the Wandering Isle.
Heartrender are Grisha of the Corporal Order. They can use their power to damage a person's internal organs. Their ability ranges from slowing a person's pulse to ripping the air out of their lungs. The target must be within their line of sight. They are feared by other Grisha and are considered the most valuable soldiers. In the Second Army, they wear a red kaftan with black embroidery. Abilities Heartrender manipulates the body on a molecular level, usually with harmful consequences.
Lungs: They can take air from a person's lungs and keep them breathing as long as they are under the influence of the Heartbeater. Heart: They can cause heart attacks, slow breathing to the point that someone passes out, or speed up the heartbeat to dangerous speeds. Interfering with healing: They can slow down the healing process rather than speed it up. Affecting Emotions: By stimulating the release of certain chemicals in the body, Heartrenders can affect a person's emotions. When under the influence of parem, a Heartrender's abilities are enhanced to extraordinary levels. Nina Zenik, a talented Heartrender, claimed that only one Heartrender under parem could tip the scales of a war between nations.
Mind Control: When under the influence of parem, they are able to force a large group of people to follow their commands. Face Reshaping: If a particular Heartrender has any talent for tailoring, it will be enhanced to Master level. Enhanced Vision: By increasing the range of their sight, parem allows Heartrenders to hit targets at much greater distances than normal. Weaknesses Like all Grisha, they cannot use their abilities when their arm movement is restricted. They require sight for their powers to affect targets. Anyone too far away, hidden from view, or out of sight cannot be affected. The Heartrender's abilities do not seem to have any effect
have no effect on animals. Healers are Grisha from the Corporal class who can use their powers to heal others.
They can mend bones, heal wounds, etc. However, they cannot heal wounds inflicted by the Nitoya. In the Second Army, they wear a red kaftan with gray embroidery. Squallers are Grisha of the Ethereal Order. They can manipulate the wind, raising or lowering air pressure to fill a ship's sails or move objects.
In the Second Army they wear blue caftans with silver embroidery.Known Abilities Squallers can manipulate air pressure to hurl objects or people into the air in combat. The Squallers' power was also used by Sturmhond to propel his flying ships in sieges and storms, as well as for destruction and lifting.
The Squaller's power can also be used to create acoustic anomalies, such as the one used by Zoya Nazyalenskaya in Ruin and Rising and later by the other Squallers that follow Alina Starkova. This allows the sound to travel further and more clearly, or masks the sound altogether. Summoning lightning is a trick that the Squallers can also perform. However, they were not allowed to use this ability during the Darkling's Second Army due to its unpredictable nature, as pointed out by both Alina Starkova in the Shadow and Bone trilogy and Sturmhond in the Six of Crows duology. While it is unclear if the Squallers are trained in this technique by the Grisha Triumvirate, Zoya Nazyalenskaya summons and uses lightning in The Crooked Kingdom to restart a boy's heart. The Inferni are Grisha of the Ethereal Order.
Infernus can manipulate fire by gathering flammable particles of substances such as methane or hydrogen; he can summon existing matter, but still requires a catalyst (i.e. heat) to start the chain reaction that will produce flame. As such, Infernus usually carries flint with him, which can be
a flint that can be used to light a spark.
In the Second Army they wear a blue kaftan with red embroidery. Tidemakers are Grisha of the Ethereal Order.
Their abilities lie in the manipulation of water.
In the Second Army they wear blue caftans with pale blue embroidery.
Under the influence of jurda parem, torrentials can alter the state of matter around them and themselves. They can also draw blood, drying people out, which almost happened to Wylan and Jesper once.[1Shadow Summoners are Grisha of the Ethereal Order. They have the ability to gather and manipulate darkness. The Darkling and his mother Baghra were the only known Shadow Summoners.Shadow Summoners are a rare and powerful class of Grisha. Their power manifests itself in the ability to manipulate darkness and shadows. In Shadow and Bone, Alina described Baghra's power as an inky pool of darkness in her hands, which she, like her son, can turn into tentacles or waves of darkness, and in some cases, the darkness can be turned into a slash, a deadly ability that uses shadows or darkness to create a cutting effect on a target.
The opposite of the Shadow Casters are the Sun Casters.
Durasts are Grisha of the Substantial order. Because Alkhem and Durasts often share workspaces and perform similar tasks, they are not usually distinguished and are referred to only as Fabricators.
The Hardy wear purple caftans with grey embroidery. Abilities They can manipulate glass, steel, wood, plants, stone, or anything solid at a molecular level. This can range from changing the shape, texture, or composition of a solid. They can make flowers bloom, remove pigment from an object, move objects without touching them, and even absorb harmful substances from another person's body into their own. David first appears when Zhenya Safina takes Alina Starkova to the workshop to retrieve her glass disks. He is either unaware at the time that Zhenya is in love, or simply uninterested in the topic, as he is oblivious to her presence. David was an experienced Substantial, so the Darkling used him to create a collar for Alina from the antlers of Morozov's Deer.
David later admitted that he felt bad about creating the collar, and Alina asked Zhenya to tell him that she held no grudge against him. He was a fairly quiet Prochnik who enjoyed using his Grisha abilities to manipulate metal, and seemed oblivious to anything else. Adult David was also described as a modest man with a gentle, calm, but absent-minded personality.
Appearance David was described as pale, thin as a reed, with long brown hair falling over his eyes.
The Alkems are Grisha of the Substantial Order.
They specialize in chemicals such as explosive powders and poisons. Since Alchems and Durniks often share their workspace and perform similar work, they are not distinguished and are referred to only as Fabricators.
Alkemi wear purple caftans with red embroidery. The Little Palace is the seat of the Second Army of Ravka. It is located near the Grand Palace in Ravka's capital, Os Alta.
Assault and Storm Following the Darkling's attempted coup and escape, the Little Palace is captured by the First Army, with armed soldiers guarding its perimeter to prevent the few remaining Grisha from escaping.
The palace was partially destroyed during the Darkling's attack on Os Alta. Residents Volcra Gregory Juris Elizabeth
The Shadow Fold, also known as the Unsea or simply the Fold, is a swath of darkness that suddenly appeared in the Tula Valley one day, splitting Ravka in two. It was destroyed by Alina Starkov during the Ravkan Civil War. Before its disappearance, the only way to cross the Fold was by Sand Skiff.
Despite its name, the Canyon is not a depression, but an "elevation." A wall of impenetrable darkness rising high into the sky, growing with each passing year. In addition to all the horrors stored within, it is home to man-eating monsters called volcra.
The canyon was created by the Darkling and runs right through the Vi, a wide road that once ran across the country, connecting Os Alta with the port cities on the western coast of Ravka. On maps, the Shadow Fold appears as a long, narrow spot, or sometimes just a shapeless cloud. People who need to cross the Shadow Fold use a skiff, a land-based sailing vessel that glides across the land and is propelled by the power of the Grisha. Jurda-parem is highly addictive to Grisha, and quickly weakens the user's system. Those who are able to overcome the drug's addiction and withdrawal symptoms are transformed; their powers are reversed and unnatural. The only known survivor of the Corporal Order lost the ability to manipulate living substances, and instead gained the ability to completely control dead bodies, bone fragments, and even bone dust.

A 28-year-old owner of a successful concept gym. Smart, independent, and confident in her business, but very down-to-earth, slightly self-critical, and prefers cozy oversized hoodies to flashy outfits. Despite the age difference, she sincerely values her friendship with 17-year-old {{user}} , interacting with him as an equal, loving to tease him kindly, and always ready to support him. Although... who knows, maybe this will turn into something more?
