Mind

Sesshōmaru (殺せっ生しょう丸まる) is a powerful daiyōkai, feared throughout the Feudal Era, who is also known as the Beast King of the West. He is Inuyasha's half-brother and, in order of birth, is the firstborn son of Inu no Taisho. Unlike many other yōkai, he had no interest in possessing even a single fragment of the Shikon Pearl to enhance his powers and regarded yōkai who sought it only to grow stronger as pathetic and weak.

Despite his lack of interest in the Shikon Pearl, he longed to defeat Naraku for personal reasons. On his journey, he was accompanied by a dragon named Ah-Un, an imp named Jaken, a human girl named Rin, and finally Sango's younger brother, Kohaku.

On several occasions, Sesshōmaru's group encountered Inuyasha's group while both teams were chasing Naraku and more or less ended up willingly helping Inuyasha and his friends, which he always claimed had not been his real intentions in any of those situations.

He possesses the swords Sacred Fang and Explosive Fang and was the owner of the sword Tokijin until it was destroyed.

Appearance

Humanoid form Unlike InuYasha, Sesshōmaru is a full-grown yōkai. In his humanoid form, he has attractive features; he is quite tall at 1.90 m and has a thin but athletic body with a defined physique. His skin is a pale tone and his ears are pointed; his eyes, which are smaller in his adult age, are an amber color, and are slanted with slit pupils. He also has knee-length silver hair with short bangs. He has a purple crescent-shaped mark in the center of his forehead that can be seen below his bangs, two magenta stripes on each cheek and a magenta stripe on each eyelid, and two pairs of stripes on each arm near his wrists above the joint of his hands, which are permanent features on his skin. As a consequence of the skirmish with Inuyasha for control of Steel Fang, Sesshomaru loses his left arm, which he later regenerates during the confrontation against Magatsuhi once he is able to overcome his obsession with possessing said sword and manages to create Explosive Fang, a sword that is part of his body.

Like Inuyasha, his canines are fangs (though they are usually not visible unless he transforms) and his fingernails are claws, though one notable difference from his brother is that his can secrete a corrosive venom. When Sesshomaru was younger, he possessed more feminine features and his eyes were large.

Appearance

Attire Sesshōmaru's armor includes a spiked pauldron covering his left shoulder attached to the upper section of his cuirass and "lotus petal" tails. When damaged, the armor automatically regenerates. His kimono is mostly white with a red and white cherry blossom crest on the collar and sleeves, showing that he is of royal birth. He wears a sashinuki hakama that is gathered at the ankles, producing a "balloon" effect. His footwear consists of black, ankle-length armored boots. He wears a yellow obi around his waist on which he carries Sacred Fang and Explosive Fang attached, although he previously carried Tokijin, a sword made from the fangs of the Naraku extension known as Goshinki and which was created by Totosai's banished student, Kaijinbo; on his right shoulder he wears a stole of thick white fur (Mokomoko) that is part of his body but is not the tail as was once thought. Its function comes to resemble that of a shield. In his youth, Sesshōmaru wore a slightly different outfit. His kimono was cream-colored and had purple leaf patterns on it, and he wore a blue belt.

Appearance

Yōkai form His true form is that of a giant white-furred dog with long ears, his eyes have a red sclera and his pupils have a blue slit shape. His Mokomoko remains wrapped around his snout as if it were a leash; although it is very rare for him to take this form, since in it he releases all his power and does not find, in his opinion, anyone worthy of a fight that can be taken seriously. In his original form, Sesshomaru looks menacing, with the yōkai markings on his body widening and becoming more apparent, the stripes on his usually smooth cheeks becoming irregularly shaped and changing to a somewhat more ferocious color, and his mokomoko wrapping around his neck like a leash and extending across his entire body. He has only fully transformed into his yōkai form three times: Once during his battle with Inuyasha, resulting in the loss of his left arm, which sparked his resentment towards his brother, whom he considered inferior due to his human roots and for having been chosen by his father to inherit Steel Fang in his place; the second time when he met his mother, and the third during the battle against Magatsuhi. On this occasion Sesshomaru finally understands his late father's words and finally obtains his true strength which he himself was able to create, which manifests with the appearance of Exploding Fang and the subsequent regeneration of his left arm.

Mind

Sesshōmaru, born from a great demonic bloodline, possesses a rare perfect power that many demons desire. Because of this, he was always calm and confident in his power, displaying a stoic, calm and calculating personality at almost all times. The only trait he did not inherit from his father was a fondness for humans, but this manifested itself later in his life. His calmness often kept his thoughts free from emotional influences. However, Sesshomaru shows a smile full of malice when there is something that catches his attention and interests him. At the beginning of the story, Sesshomaru was shown to be a little more expressive, being presented as someone arrogant when aware of his great power, denying and belittling his half-brother Inuyasha for his human side. His air of aloofness and indifference was a product of the dignity that only one of those rare demonic powers could possess. Sesshōmaru was more or less emotionless, with only anger, annoyance, and dissatisfaction showing on his face. Because both his heart and body were strong, he had no desire to possess the Shikon Pearl, nor to conspire with allies. Sesshōmaru even responded sarcastically towards Naraku, who had taken on an air of brazenness due to his demonic power.

Mind

In battle, he judged his enemy’s power level and attacked with the minimum power necessary. Anyone in his way was considered an enemy that he would exterminate without hesitation. He did not hold back his power, even against women. He rationalized that all his prey were equal and defeated them. For someone with such pride in his power, cooperation was proof of weakness, and being alone was a condition for the strong. Once he judged someone to be an obstacle, he was quick to kill them without hesitation. Sesshōmaru had a very inquisitive mind when there was something he cared about, but at the same time, he had almost no tenacity of purpose. If he became interested in something else, he would arbitrarily turn his back on what he was doing, even during battle. Much like his fighting style, he was quick to make decisions and act immediately.

Sesshōmaru was obsessively proud of his father, Tōga, whom all demons were in awe of. Because he respected his bloodline so much, he despised Inuyasha and the latter's human mother, Izayoi. He insulted Naraku, who tried to harness Sesshōmaru's power. Anger welled up in his heart for not being able to use Steel Fang, the sword that could cut down a hundred demons and that had been left behind by his father. He resented Tōga for leaving Steel Fang in the hands of Inuyasha, whose power was weaker than his own. However, over time, Sesshōmaru came to understand why his father gave him Sacred Fang and put aside his dislike towards his half-brother, even showing great concern for him at rare moments. He refused to use Explosive Fang on Inuyasha when even Magatsuhi noted that it was the obvious choice to make, and it was hinted that he actually cared for Inuyasha but refused to admit it when he was protecting him from Sō'unga and his "Whirlwind Dragon".

Mind

Sesshōmaru had stated that he only sought to fight the strongest beings alive and how he had wanted to fight his father and defeat him. Sesshōmaru's love for his father was so great that even though he inherited the (at the time) useless Sacred Fang, he kept it around him for sentimental value. During the brief period it was stolen from him, he stated that the Sacred Fang was not a sword he would miss if he lost it, if it weren't for his father. He used to have no feelings for anyone, but meeting various people, such as his brother Inuyasha, Naraku with his numerous proposals, and Rin, brought a change to his heart. After saving Rin and becoming a true owner of the Sacred Fang, he began to show feelings behind his ruthless and cruel words. He stopped Inuyasha's demonic rampage by controlling his power, and did so like an older brother reprimanding a younger brother, though he claimed that he would kill Inuyasha, despite his actions showing otherwise. There was even a time when Sesshōmaru was angry at Inuyasha for rampaging around his father's grave, but set his sword aside, before striking him with just his fist. By setting his sword aside, Sesshōmaru showed that he was simply scolding Inuyasha for desecrating his father's grave, rather than attempting to hurt or kill his younger brother. Sesshōmaru didn't even hit him that hard, or Inuyasha would have been seriously injured. He even held back from killing Kohaku when he could have easily done so, when he looked into his eyes and saw emptiness and that he had given up on everything.

Mind

Sesshōmaru genuinely cared for Rin and Jaken, and though he rarely showed it, he appreciated their loyalty. He originally greatly despised protecting the weak, seeing it as a waste of time. Unlike Tōga and Inuyasha, Sesshōmaru had trouble admitting that he had people to protect (Rin and Jaken), and out of pride, would never admit to doing so. Sesshōmaru's compassion for Rin was evident, but he preferred to hide it, because it would taint his pride. However, he did show his love and concern for her when she passed away for a second time due to her time in the Underworld. Sesshōmaru entered Hell in order to rescue her, but upon learning that he could not save her life, he felt defeated. When he realized that it was his drive to strengthen Sacred Fang that led them to hell and ultimately killed her, he threw the sword aside and said that if the sword gains power at the expense of Rin's life it meant nothing. However, when Sesshōmaru's mother revived Rin, he was greatly relieved. While he cares for her, he does not coddle her, making her fend for herself when she is hungry but keeps a close enough distance to come to her aid when needed. Aside from Rin, he has become more affectionate towards Jaken, whom he used to threaten to kill on a regular basis and treated like a slave if he failed to accomplish a certain task. Afterwards, while he would still beat Jaken whenever he annoyed him and force him to tag along even in dangerous situations, he would tell Jaken to stay back when facing an enemy that would endanger the imp if he was too close.

When Kagura was injured, Sesshōmaru originally intended to leave her in the river she was drowning in, but when Rin attempted to save her and Jaken followed Rin, Sesshōmaru pulled all three of them out of the river.

Mind

He stayed there afterwards and warned Kagura not to do anything that would get her killed. Later, however, before Kagura's death, Sesshōmaru sought her out and considered using Sacred Fang. He has also saved Inuyasha's friends on several occasions. On their way to Mount Souls, Sesshōmaru saved Kagome, Miroku, and Sango from the poison master Mukotsu, one of the Shichinintai, but only claimed that he killed Mukotsu because he did not answer his questions. Another example was when Inuyasha and his companions were involved in a fight with the "water god" Numawatari; when Sesshōmaru arrived, he insulted Inuyasha's inability to kill a "low-life demon", and then easily defeated Numawatari using his Meidō Zangetsuha ability, leaving immediately afterward. Also, when Byakuya, the most recent incarnation of Naraku, was about to take Kohaku, who had one of the last three fragments of the Shikon Pearl, back to Naraku, Sesshōmaru appeared and cast a Meidō Zangetsuha from a distance. Byakuya fled, claiming that he did not want to die and commented that it was so unlike Sesshōmaru to save someone. From then on, Sesshōmaru seemed to have taken Kohaku under his wing, albeit in his typical, reluctant manner. Later, when Kohaku's fragment was tainted by Magatsuhi, Sesshōmaru attempted to save Kohaku at the cost of a large wound to his arm.

Mind

It was his deep compassion that caused Sacred Fang to reform into a weapon. His offensive powers were blocked until Sesshōmaru could show true compassion. In his battle with Mōryōmaru, the villain insulted a dying Kagura, which enraged Sesshōmaru, and he broke Mōryōmaru's indestructible shell (at the cost of destroying Tokijin, his only offensive weapon up to that point). Recognizing the yōkai's growth because it was defending a dead person, Sacred Fang called upon its creator to reforge it as a weapon. However, he still retains traces of his previous cruelty, having entered a mountain belonging to ogres and killing them all mercilessly to practice and develop the Meidō Zangetsuha. Later, to show his compassion and respect for his father, he gave the offensive powers of his sword to Inuyasha, in accordance with his father's wishes, recognizing his brother's worth. as heir to the sword.

Despite his growing compassion, he used impolite Japanese. He would address strangers or people he didn't like with "kisama", an offensive form of "you", although even more formal. He addressed himself with the polite "watashi" or "kono Sesshōmaru" (literally I Sesshōmaru), a way in which powerful lords referred to themselves, denoting his high nobility and position. Aside from "kisama", he used "omae" for either Jaken or Inuyasha, the latter being occasionally and not rarely. Therefore, it could be an insult as long as he retained the dignified speech pattern of a lord, unlike the harsher speech used by Inuyasha.

Mind

Sesshōmaru also shares another trait with his younger brother: while he can still be ruthless, he completely despised brutality as shown when Kyōra repeatedly suggests that they are similar in finding sadistic pleasure in ending people's lives, to which Sesshōmaru responded with extreme contempt and disdain. [3] In fact, when Sesshōmaru killed enemies, he did so in a swift and efficient manner, disregarding any form of unnecessary violence. The most radical change in Sesshōmaru's personality came with becoming the father of twin sisters, Towa and Setsuna. Despite being shown to be harsh and ruthless, Sesshōmaru protected his daughters from the threats posed by Zero and Kirinmaru numerous times and also proved to be an excellent father in raising his daughter Setsuna, despite having to keep his distance from her for her own safety. He also showed that he was an excellent father to his eldest daughter Towa, whom he allowed to use the Sacred Fang despite being broken to resurrect Setsuna, recently killed by Kirinmaru, teaching her how to use it despite being rough with her; he was still able to recognize her effort in resurrecting his younger sister and tenderly caressed her while she was unconscious. He also proved to be a bit strict with Setsuna since in exchange for not continuing to carry the Dream Butterfly that connected her to her mother, which prevented not only Setsuna from sleeping but also stopped the effects of the Silver Scale curse cast on her by Zero. By doing this act, Setsuna could sleep again but on the condition that she learn to master the powers of her Naginata, Yukari no Tachikiri as soon as possible to break the bond that Zero shares with Rin and save her.

History

Sesshōmaru is the son of Tōga and another Inu Daiyōkai. He saw his father as his ultimate opponent, wishing to defeat him in combat and take his two legendary swords, Steel Fang and Clouded Fang. He spoke to his father after the battle with Dragon Spirit, demanding that they hand over the two swords to him. However, when asked if he had someone to protect, Sesshōmaru replied that he did not. After his father died protecting his hanyō son Inuyasha and his human mother, Sesshōmaru began to hate them, considering such an act as pathetic and unworthy of a great yōkai like Tōga. Due to his father's will he was given Holy Fang instead of the other two swords he wanted so that he would eventually learn about compassion.

On his journey, Sesshomaru passes through the plains of Musashi Province, where Jaken and the imp tribe were attacked by a powerful Yokai. After saving them, he was greatly admired by Jaken, who decided to leave the tribe and follow him. Sesshomaru ignored him at first, but eventually accepts Jaken's request to become his servant. He grants Jaken a weapon, Nintōjō, which is used as a detector and flamethrower.

Shortly after Inuyasha was sealed to the sacred tree, Sesshomaru joined an army of demons that his father saved during a battle, however, they were all killed by the Leopard Cat tribe in retaliation for the death of the Panther King, who had defeated by Tōga 150 years ago. The battle ended when Tōran fled during a fight with Sesshomaru.

History

Sesshōmaru began his search for Steel Fang at the location described in a short riddle: "Seen, but never seen; protected, but never known by its protector." This was the only known clue to the sword's location. His servant, Jaken, suggested that they go to his younger brother, Inuyasha, to inquire where their father's grave was located. Sesshōmaru and Jaken were then seen riding a massive Oni, attacking a woman chained in a flying chariot. Inuyasha tried to save the woman, but Jaken attacked Inuyasha with the Nintōjō, drawing his attention. Sesshōmaru mocked him for being a Hanyo and asked him where his father's grave was, only to find that he did not know either. Sesshōmaru proceeded to tell Inuyasha that if he did not answer, he would kill the woman in the carriage, Inuyasha's mother. At first, Inuyasha did not believe that the woman was his mother. However, Sesshōmaru told him that he had resurrected her and given her a new body, which later, was proven to be quite possible due to the power of Sesshōmaru's sword, Sacred Fang. After hearing from the woman that she was indeed his resurrected mother, Inuyasha attempted to attack his brother and save him. Sesshōmaru ordered the demon to attack them, but before it could harm him, Inuyasha's mother transported them to a different location.

Jaken went to where Inuyasha was, and it was revealed that the woman was not Inuyasha's mother, but a yokai called the 'Woman of Limbo'. A spirit of women whose children were killed by war. To lure Inuyasha into revealing the secret of Steel Fang's whereabouts, Sesshōmaru appeared and gloated that he knew where his father's grave was. He grabbed Inuyasha and pulled a black pearl from Inuyasha's eye. He then used Jaken's Nintōjō to open a portal. He and the others jumped in, traveling to the world between the living and the afterlife.

History

Sesshōmaru entered his late father's skeleton and attempted to pull out Steel Fang, but was unable to do so due to a spell on the sword that prevented full demons from touching it. Inuyasha arrived and attempted to pull it out, but failed. Sesshōmaru then attacked his brother. Kagome Higurashi, who was knocked down by Jaken, accidentally pulled out the sword. Sesshōmaru, enraged that a lowly human could pull out Steel Fang, demanded that Kagome hand over the sword to him. However, Kagome refused and threatened to hurt him. Inuyasha warned Sesshōmaru to stay away from Kagome. Sesshōmaru, who hated humans and hanyō alike, sprayed toxic sludge on Kagome, covering her. He also commented to Inuyasha that Inuyasha's love for humans was what made him weak, as was his mother. Inuyasha was furious and attacked Sesshōmaru not only for what he did to Kagome, but also because he insulted the memory of Inuyasha's human mother by claiming that she had "dirt blood". Kagome then rose from the mud, unharmed because Steel Fang had protected her. Sesshōmaru

Sesshōmaru and Inuyasha began to fight. Inuyasha used Steel Fang, which looked like a useless piece of metal, to no avail. Sesshōmaru began to fill the inside of his father's skeleton with poison gas, forcing Inuyasha and Kagome to escape. Inuyasha told Kagome that she was crazy to think that she needed to believe in the sword for it to work. Kagome began to cry, asking if she should give up hope, only for Inuyasha to tell her to shut up and let him protect her. As Inuyasha approaches Sesshōmaru to deliver the finishing blow, the sword began to pulse and suddenly transformed into a massive fang-like sword. Inuyasha then cut off one of Sesshōmaru's arms, forcing him to flee.

History

A band of outlaws, who had just raided a poor village, were riding through a land where demons supposedly came out at night. They saw someone up ahead and, assuming it was simply a human, began to attack. The "human", who was actually Sesshōmaru, killed them all with a single blow of his arm. Jaken approached him through the grass and congratulated his master for defeating the men so quickly. Sesshōmaru threw the arm, which he had stolen from a demon he had defeated, to the ground, unable to find a permanent arm to use after Inuyasha cut off his own. A man, Naraku in disguise, suddenly appeared behind Sesshōmaru and offered him a human arm in which was embedded a fragment of the Shikon Pearl. He said that Sesshōmaru could not touch Steel Fang because he was a yokai, but that if he used a human arm, he could do so. He also gave him a beehive that could be used to block the black hole in Miroku's hand. Naraku asked Sesshōmaru to use his gifts to defeat Inuyasha for him, an offer Sesshōmaru readily accepted.

A massive shadowy claw streaked across the sky and began wreaking havoc on a town. It turned out to be another one of Sesshōmaru's shadow beasts, and the villagers fled in fear. The yokai released poison from its hand, and Inuyasha covered his nose with his sleeve and coughed as Kagome, Miroku, and Shippō backed away. Sesshōmaru said that he had come to claim Steel Fang. Inuyasha and Sesshōmaru fought for a while, and Sesshōmaru used his human arm to grab onto the sword and showed Inuyasha how to kill a hundred demons with a single blow from it. They fought for some more time before Miroku intervened and used his Black Hole. Sesshōmaru released the beehive that Naraku had given him, and they went into Miroku's hand. The monk was poisoned and rendered unable to fight.

History

Kagome ran to find an antidote, while Inuyasha continued to fight with Sesshōmaru. Miroku and Shippō fought Jaken, who used his Nintōjō, throwing fire at them.

Sesshōmaru was about to kill Inuyasha with Steel Fang when an arrow came flying towards him, reversing his transformation. Kagome was seen standing on a hill with her bow and a new arrow already ready. She said that the next arrow would go for Sesshōmaru's heart and warned Inuyasha to stay away. Sesshōmaru charged at Kagome, but Inuyasha jumped in front of him and took the blow for her. Later in the battle, Inuyasha managed to rip off Sesshōmaru's new arm, but was stabbed by his brother's poisonous claws in the process. Sesshōmaru and Jaken left, and the bugs returned to Sesshōmaru. Sesshōmaru, dissatisfied with his sword, Sacred Fang, desired to have a new one made for him by the old and absent-minded swordsman Tōtōsai. An unwitting Tōtōsai had Inuyasha defend him, causing the brothers to fight again. Tōtōsai revealed the sword's heritage to Sesshōmaru before creating a distraction to allow Inuyasha and the rest of his companions to escape. Shortly after leaving Inuyasha and his companions, Tōtōsai was attacked by Sesshōmaru. Once again, Inuyasha fought his brother as Tōtōsai's protector, but had to face Sesshōmaru's newest defense, a dragon's arm. As Inuyasha and Sesshōmaru continued to duel for possession of the Steel Fang, both brothers discovered the unexpected power of their respective heritages, while Inuyasha discovered the true power of his sword, Sesshōmaru, who called his sword useless, was saved by this relic of his father.

After the fight, an orphaned human girl named Rin attempted to nurse the wounded Sesshōmaru back to health. Though he initially tried to scare her, she returned to him, encouraged by the slightest show of interest.

History

She was mauled to death by some of Koga's wolves as she attempted to return to him; Sesshōmaru was initially going to ignore her, but out of curiosity and fueled by the Sacred Fang's pulse, he tested the sword on her, cutting through the minions of Hell that had come to collect her soul and bringing her back to life. He walked away and Rin followed him, becoming his new traveling companion.

The evil sword Finding Goshinki's corpse and detecting Inuyasha's scent on it, Sesshōmaru brought the demon's head to Kaijinbō, the rebel swordsmith and former disciple of Tōtōsai, to commission a sword made from Goshinki's head. The same day Kaijinbō arrived, possessed and wielding his new creation, Tōkijin, Inuyasha had transformed into his human form and was helpless. Then, fortunately, Tōtōsai appeared and gave Inuyasha his repaired sword, which was too heavy for him to lift. Kaijinbō was then destroyed by his own creation because he was too evil for his creator to handle. Kagura led Sesshōmaru to Tōkijin, and watched as the demon claimed his sword and wielded it against his brother. While Inuyasha and his friends escaped before feeling the full weight of Sesshōmaru's new weapon, Kagura decided that Sesshōmaru might be strong enough to destroy Naraku. The True Nature of the Demon Inuyasha's demonic transformation gave him great power, but no sense of control over his actions as he killed indiscriminately, a finding that Sesshōmaru made when he arrived to measure his younger brother's power after hearing the wisdom of Bokusenō, a tree yōkai and friend of Tōga. Naraku's plan Kagura kidnapped Rin. As Jaken and Sesshōmaru discussed their options, one of Naraku's demonic puppets appeared before them. He threatened Sesshōmaru with his life unless he agreed to kill Inuyasha.

History

Instead, Sesshōmaru followed Naraku to his castle. Upon arriving, Naraku revealed his true demon form, a collection of interlocking demons, and attacked Sesshōmaru. Naraku was secretly planning to absorb Sesshōmaru into his own flesh as Sesshōmaru cut off parts of his body and was surrounded by Naraku's fallen flesh.

At the same time, Inuyasha had also tracked down Naraku's castle. He broke through Naraku's barrier with his newly minted Steel Fang. Meanwhile, Kagome and the others chased after the only Jewel shard that Kagome sensed, which was Kohaku, who had been tasked with protecting Rin. Naraku was forced to fight both Sesshōmaru and Inuyasha at the same time. When Naraku was severely injured, he escaped in a cloud of miasma. Sesshōmaru suddenly realized why Naraku had kidnapped Rin - as a method to distract him in case he needed to escape. Naraku telepathically ordered Kohaku to kill Rin.

Sesshōmaru and Inuyasha arrived just in time to stop Kohaku. When Sesshōmaru looked into Kohaku's eyes, he realized that she was an empty shell being ordered to perform his actions. He handed Kohaku over to Inuyasha and his group and escaped with Rin. Mount Hakurei When Sesshōmaru arrived at Mount Hakurei, he saved Kagome Higurashi, Miroku, and Sango from the poison Mukotsu, one of the Shichinintai; however, when faced with the fact that he had saved Kagome and the others, he simply stated, "I only killed him because he wouldn't answer my questions."

Later, Shippō told Inuyasha that Kagome, Miroku, and Sango stopped breathing due to the poison. Inuyasha was shocked and began to cry, as he was unable to protect them. Inuyasha left to be alone and began chopping down trees and screaming in frustration, seeking revenge against the Shichinintai and Naraku. In his daze of anger, Sesshōmaru appeared and asked him why he was so inconsolable.

History

Inuyasha explained, and Sesshōmaru told him that a half-demon could barely protect himself, let alone others. Inuyasha, tired of the mockery, said that if he killed Sesshōmaru, he would have the Sacred Fang and could revive his friends, to which his brother says that a half-demon could never master the sword. Inuyasha began to punch Sesshōmaru, but the illusion disappeared, suggesting that it was all in Inuyasha's head.

Following Mukotsu's death, Naraku ordered the remaining five Shichinintai to kill Sesshōmaru as well. Jakotsu and Suikotsu went after him, the former noticing that Rin was Sesshōmaru's weakness. Later, Suikotsu and Jakotsu had Sesshōmaru cornered, threatening to kill Rin if Sesshōmaru made a move. Sesshōmaru pulled off an impressive maneuver, throwing his sword behind him and impaling Suikotsu with it, then lunging and sinking his claws into Jakotsu's heart. Thinking that was enough to kill them, however, he let his guard down and as Rin ran away from her captors, Suikotsu grabbed her and threatened to kill her. Jakotsu told Sesshōmaru that it would be too late to save her, but Kikyō suddenly arrived, managing to stop Suikotsu with a sacred arrow. He later watched as Naraku's miasma destroyed the vegetation on Mount Hakurei and many demons escaped from the destroyed barrier. Possibly seeing Naraku's attempt to kill Kikyō, Sesshōmaru appeared before Naraku; he believed that since coming out of hiding he had become stronger. Proving his theory, Sesshōmaru destroyed Naraku's body, but Tōkijin's strength was returned by Naraku's barrier. He made one final slash that split Naraku's head in half. However, he was unsuccessful in destroying him for good, watching as he fled once more. When Inuyasha arrived to see Kikyō's broken bow, Sesshōmaru berated his brother for failing to save her, telling him to chase after Naraku instead of yelling at him.

Skills

While his half-brother Inuyasha is a half-demon, Sesshōmaru is a pure-blooded demon, having more fully inherited his father's abilities. The level of his demonic powers is such that he can nullify demonic auras in an instant by touching the object he has been possessed by. For example, despite remaining corrupted after Kaijinbō's death, Sesshōmaru effortlessly exterminated Tōkijin's demonic aura with his bare hands. It is also presumed that, aside from Inu no Taishō himself, Sesshōmaru was the only known demon who could possibly control Sō'unga, something Inuyasha could not. Strength: Sesshōmaru possesses herculean strength, even with only one arm. He has repeatedly overpowered and powerfully tossed Inuyasha aside. He can even use his claws to easily punch through solid rock and the bodies of most demons. His physical strength with a single arm was equal to Inuyasha's peak strength. Speed: Sesshōmaru can close distances quickly and without warning. His speed far exceeded Inuyasha's considerable speed, as in their fights, Inuyasha was unable to land a single hit on Sesshōmaru even with Steel Fang in hand until he learned the Kaze no Kizu. Sesshōmaru would even get behind the cautious Naraku with ease. Durability: Sesshōmaru's tremendous demonic powers have granted him great resistance to injury. On the rare occasions that he does receive serious injuries, he is often able to continue fighting despite them, displaying tremendous resilience. This was demonstrated when he was able to easily kill an army of human samurai right after losing his left arm and the initial battle for Steel Fang before Inuyasha. Later, Sesshōmaru managed to withstand the Kaze no Kizu head-on long enough for Sacred Fang to use his barrier ability to protect him from the attack's lethal level of damage.

Ability

Accelerated Healing: During his battle with Magatsuhi, Sesshōmaru demonstrated the ability to rapidly heal the burns and cuts on his right arm, as well as several large holes running through his body. However, this ability does not appear to be a passive bodily function, as he evidently needs to focus his energies in order to heal himself. In the same battle, he also displayed regenerative powers, able to fully regrow his left arm, which was severed by Inuyasha in one of their encounters. It is unknown why it took so long, however, it is possibly because his left arm housed Exploding Fang, and was subconsciously repressed until he let go of his desire for Steel Fang. Olfactory Senses: Sesshōmaru has an excellent sense of smell and is able to determine circumstances by scents in the wind. Even with things far away, he can understand what is going on and gain information through smell alone. He can discern certain characteristics of an individual through scent alone; for example, the scent of the graveyard dirt allowed him to identify the undead nature of the Seven Warriors. Poison Claws: Sesshōmaru has claw-like nails and can injure, or even kill, an entire group of thieves using them. He can also release a potent poison at the same time to melt his enemies. Although he usually applies it through his claws, he can also spray the acid with his blows. His poison is strong enough to melt rocks or bones; a mere human will melt in an instant. If his poison is ingested internally, it will stay inside and be there for a long period of time, even in those with demonic power.

Ability

Poison Whip: Like Poison Claws, this is also another very common attack. With its Poison Claws it forms a poison whip to attack the opponent. This whip can even cut slightly weak swords and some monsters. Mokomoko-sama (モコモコ様): The rich fur on Sesshōmaru's shoulder is part of his body and can stretch greatly, giving him defensive capabilities and some means of attack. Hikari no Muchi (光の鞭, Whip of Light): Sesshōmaru can generate a thin, whip-like thread of greenish-yellow energy from his fingertips to aid him in the place of his missing arm. It has been shown capable of piercing armor and flesh with ease and can burn flesh on contact, similar to that of the poison on his claws. He seems to be able to manifest this energy without its destructive properties, allowing him to use it to catch falling allies or pull someone out of danger without harming them in the process. Longevity: As a daiyōkai, Sesshōmaru has supernatural longevity. He appears to be physically around 19 years old despite being chronologically over 1000 years old. Flight: Sesshōmaru is capable of flight in both his humanoid and demon forms, and can also hover motionless. He occasionally allows other individuals to accompany him by carrying them on his mokomoko-sama. While in this light orb form, Sesshōmaru can fly even faster than his human or true form, and this can be used for a quick escape or a fast chase.

Ability

Transformation: As a Daiyōkai, he possesses the ability to transform into either an orb of light or a massive silver-furred dog at will, and though he possesses tremendous destructive power in the latter form, he rarely uses it. While his gigantic dog form appears to grant him a great deal of physical strength, it appears to lack the agility of his humanoid form. Furthermore, Jaken speculated that Sesshōmaru loses some of his reasoning abilities while in dog form; however, there is no substantial evidence to support this theory. When transforming back and forth, his clothing, weapons, and other accessories seem to simply disappear and then reappear. Poison Fangs: While in his giant dog form, the toxins from Sesshōmaru's poisonous claws are transferred to his fangs. This caused his bite to have extremely caustic effects, an ability which also transfers to his saliva. Additionally, his saliva can be turned into a poisonous mist-like gas. Teleportation: Sesshōmaru's orb of light gives him the ability to quickly teleport if necessary, as seen when Sesshōmaru transformed into a ball of energy to escape his father's grave. He later used this form to chase after a fleeing Totosai, materializing upon impact with the ground and producing an explosion. Master Swordsman: Sesshōmaru is an extremely skilled swordsman, having wielded several demonic swords in battle. On the several occasions where he and Inuyasha clashed with their demonic swords, Sesshōmaru was able to easily and consistently overwhelm his younger brother. Even on the rare chance that Inuyasha did manage to defeat Sesshōmaru, it was only after Sesshōmaru had gained the upper hand and Inuyasha had grown accustomed to Sesshōmaru's abilities.

Weakness

Physical Trauma: Major physical injuries, such as stabbing and dismemberment, can cause Sesshōmaru pain and also slow him down. However, this is more or less momentary, as he can quickly recover from most injuries as long as he has not been weakened by other means, such as spiritual power or purification methods. Poison: While normally able to nullify most poisons due to his own venom, Sesshōmaru can be incapacitated by extremely powerful miasma; for example, the miasma of the Shikon Pearl's demon spirit, Magatsuhi, was able to severely burn Sesshōmaru on contact. Spiritual Power: Sesshōmaru is susceptible to the effects of spiritual power, though he has shown great resistance to holy or spiritual energies. For example, he was able to pass through Mount Hakurei's powerful purification barrier without being purified, though the barrier weakened him somewhat while it was in effect. In another instance, Sesshōmaru caught one of Kagome's holy arrows with his bare hands with no ill effect; any other demon would have been gravely injured. Even holy attacks coming from multiple trained and powerful monks (e.g. Ungai and his men) had no lasting effect on Sesshōmaru. Haku: Sesshomaru relies on the energy known as Haku which allows him to stay alive and move freely. The loss of this energy can cause death.

Relations

His Mother: Only shown for a small amount of time, Sesshōmaru's mother's name is never mentioned. She is a full yōkai who is extremely similar to her son: the moon on her forehead, a similar demeanor, and a condescending attitude similar to humans. She nonchalantly asked him if he brought two human children with him, Rin and Kohaku, because she planned to eat them. When Sesshōmaru came to visit her, it was to strengthen and mature his Meidō Zangetsuha power. She knew he would come to do this upon seeing that he was finally able to unlock the new power, thus stating that in order to do so, he must trade it for Rin's life. Her attitude changes from generous to irritated when Sesshōmaru ignores her offer, making it seem like she no longer cares about him. Despite being oblivious to the fact that Rin is human, she still has motherly feelings towards Sesshōmaru. Worried about her son's sadness, Sesshōmaru's mother resurrected Rin with the Meidō Stone. When Rin is revived, Jaken says that she is an honorable mother for doing so. She asks Jaken if he is happy this way, and he says that he most likely is. He later states, "All this fuss over a human girl... She's becoming like her father in the strangest ways," referring to his father's kindness towards humans.

Relations

Inuyasha: Aside from the fact that Sesshōmaru hated humans and Hanyo, Sesshōmaru despised Inuyasha not only because he wielded Sacred Fang, being a half-demon and his half-brother, but also because he could not stand the fact that his father's demon blood runs through his veins. Sesshōmaru's hatred for Inuyasha seemed to stem at least in part from his strained relationship with his father; both over the fact that he was given the "useless" sword Sacred Fang instead of Steel Fang, and his inability to understand both of their affinities for humans. After much growth and reflection, Sesshōmaru eventually begins to care for Inuyasha, though he would never admit it, and vice versa. While Sesshōmaru continues to make rude remarks towards Inuyasha, their relationship eventually improves and they seem to look out for each other in battle, as shown when they join forces to fight Naraku. Sesshōmaru seemed to have more or less lost his dislike for Inuyasha, and even decided to leave Rin in Kaede's village (which was Inuyasha's home) so that she could reintegrate into human society. However, the two brothers still show no particular affection for each other and tend to avoid each other whenever possible. Kagome Higurashi: Due to his relationship with Inuyasha, and his hatred for all humans in general, Sesshōmaru had little regard for Kagome. Part of his grudging acceptance of her and her half-brother Inuyasha came from his companionship with Rin. In fact the strongest display of trust towards his sister-in-law was when she asked him when taking his newborn daughters away from his wife to protect them if his actions had anything to do with Kirinmaru to which Sesshōmaru paused momentarily and without saying a single word, he knew immediately that Kagome was right.

Personality

He considers himself to be a superior being and is cruel to other people, although he is protective of his followers. He does not care much for others and thinks of humans as mere mortals, sometimes disgusting and unimportant. Sesshomaru is shown to be a stoic and emotionless character.

He is usually portrayed as someone intimidating and powerful (which he is) always speaking in a superior tone towards anyone who dares to confront him. However, beneath his austere personality, Sesshomaru is shown to be a very sensitive person.

Being able to give even his life for his subordinates. Although he usually appears cold and serene most of the time, he rarely shows signs of alarm or surprise; as usual, he does not hesitate when protecting his own. When Sesshomaru gets angry, his tone of voice is much more aggressive and he often loses his head as a result of his anger. Sesshomaru holds a certain degree of contempt towards Inuyasha and his father. The first, for the fact of having been conceived as a hybrid being, which, for him, who is a complete Yokai, is the greatest insult possible and towards his father for having bequeathed Steel Fang to Inuyasha, and having left him a sword that he considers useless, not knowing what his father really wanted for him and also for having "lowered" himself by protecting Inuyasha's human mother, Izayoi, at the cost of his own life.
