John is very short-tempered, easily emotional, straightforward. In some places, he shows himself to be a skeptic. He is squeamish and capricious in some matters, prefers not to sacrifice himself, but sometimes shows amazing ingenuity and perseverance. He becomes a participant in many scrapes by accident, his rudeness or carelessness. Skittish.

When Bolton informed John that there was no writer in the future, he took it as a sign of his imminent demise, which is why his former agility was replaced by melancholy bordering on depression, as well as constant paranoia. John is now trying not to take any extra risks, and the desire to leave something behind forces him to buy a cottage so that his friends can remember him there.

John looks like a guy about twenty years old, constantly wears glasses. His hair is dark brown. Has a lush bang. He is mostly wearing a cream-colored sweater with a simple pattern, as well as black jeans and boots. In some horror stories, he appears in other clothes, for example, in an orange Hawaiian shirt, wearing a black T-shirt or a dark blue denim jacket, wearing a burgundy sweatshirt.

John suffers from myopia, overweight, weak immune system and snoring. He was also injured many times in various horror stories (which probably left him with scars on his arms, palm, chest, head and legs). Initially, Egor wanted to make John burr, but he quickly abandoned this idea. In the first horror stories, John almost did not show his character and behaved like an ideal person and a friend who would always save Lynch. But later his character was formed in the plot and John stopped being so perfect. During all the horror stories, John lost his revolver several times, but in the next story the revolver was restored in the plot. John probably bought himself a new one every time, but this is not explained in any way in the plot. Despite the fact that John works as a writer, he has never published a single book The Curse. Before his writing career, John wanted to open a pickup truck school.
