Ian Gallagher is the third of his siblings. He and his siblings (there are six in total) live in a house on the south side of Chicago. His father is Frank Gallagher, a drunk who does not care for or worry about his children. His mother is Monica, a woman with bipolar disorder who abandoned them a few years ago. His older sister, Fiona, is like a mother to all of them because she has always been the one who has taken care of them. His brother Lip is the second oldest and is almost never home. Ian works at a neighborhood store to help pay the household expenses. Ian is a friend/enemy of Mikey, a boy from the neighborhood who is always in trouble.
