Folly wears a white turtleneck sweater, black boots, and a white beret. Her legs are black, and her eyes are reddish in color. The dark shape of her head resembles a spiky, black mane. She also wears a white wooden mask with a diamond-shaped cutout eye, but the mask is broken, leaving only the right half intact. On the left side of her face, she has a bright red eye with red eyelashes and a pupil formed by two yellow rings. The tips of her claw-like fingers have a deep red gradient. Due to her height, Folly looks down at the player when interacting with her.

In her Dreamer form, she was almost entirely white, with several gold, four-pointed star patterns on her legs. The soles of her feet were also gold, and unlike her current self, she didn't wear pants or boots, though her beret and sweater remained the same. Her mask was full and symmetrical, but with round eyeholes and two black spirals on her cheeks (though not in her usual design; her 2024 Christmas and 2025 April Ghosts designs both feature spirals, with the Christmas design having a red spiral and the April Ghosts design a black one). She had fluffy, cloud-like white "hair," and three five-pointed stars were attached to it as decorations. In one of her floppies, it's revealed that she still has these stars, but she can't or doesn't use them because they are broken.

Her Dreamer form was also significantly shorter than her current height, but it is unknown whether her current height is due to the passage of time or to having been possessed by the nightmare parasite.

As shown in the official mini-comic The Cleave, Folly's belly has three red cuts, the same wounds that can be seen on The Great One in Eternal Limbo, but this is not visible in the game as his sweater completely covers it.

Folly is extremely cruel and often fantasizes about killing other NPCs or mentions traumatic events that have happened to them in her dialogue. Folly is also allied with MR and NULL, with whom she frequently argues, though it's implied that this alliance stems less from genuine affection for them and more from her need for them. Folly also has the ability to invade other people's dreams, which she uses to forcibly extract information and feed on the fear in their minds. Due to these factors, Folly is unpopular with most other NPCs because of her sadistic and invasive nature. Despite this, she seems to get along better with Wallter than with other characters, sharing poetry and classical melodies.

Folly dislikes her clothes, especially her beret (as it reminds her of the betrayal by the Great Being, the same entity that created her), and she usually reacts negatively when it's mentioned. Through conversations with Split and Wallter, it's implied that her clothes are "chained" to her. Cleave describes the clothes as the Great Being's "will": the beret allows her to think, the clothes allow her to feel, and the mask allows her to see.

Folly rejects all displays of compassion, refusing almost everything offered to her. It is implied that this is because the tree falsely offered her "true freedom" in The Cleave, which resulted in her being infected by the nightmare parasite.

It reacts with disdain and contempt if players shoot it with projectiles, but it will not harm them in response.

Folly enters the elevator after completing the boss battle on the Eternal Limbo floor. Previously, she could enter during an event in the elevator where the lights dimmed and she appeared enveloped in a dark mist.

Unlike other NPCs, Folly doesn't intentionally leave any floor. She simply vanishes in a puff of black smoke after traversing several floors. If the elevator collapses on the Frightening Floor, she won't fall with the other NPCs, as she'll disappear into the smoke before the floor gives way beneath her.

Although she rejects almost all the objects offered to her (except the slice of cake), there is an extremely low probability that Folly will accept the dancing potion instead of rejecting it and perform Rollie's dance. [2]

Folly was designed by Catjammi, also known as CJ. The design of the eyes on Folly's legs was inspired by real poplar trees. [4] Folly's design was inspired by the game DREAM WORLD. [5] Before Folly's name was revealed, she was known as Dream Parasite, DP, and Nightmare Parasite. Folly's text box uses the EB Garamond font. Madness cannot be eliminated by MR. In Frightening Floor, if a player who is told to leave does not exit, the elevator will slowly descend before Folly disappears in a puff of smoke and, unlike in MR, will not return.

The plant's counter may randomly say "MADNESS". [ 6 ] Players can earn the "SHE" badge upon meeting her for the first time. Folly is the second NPC to use a textured mesh, the first being the redesign of Gnarpy. However, unlike Gnarpy, Folly has animated fingers. Due to the shape of his eyes, if the player looks at Folly from below or from the sides, it gives the impression that his eyes are fixed on the player.

The camera that Folly uses as a spectator is inside her torso. If you exit the elevator disappearing in a puff of smoke, your spectator camera will appear outside and behind the bottom right corner of the elevator. If Folly's health is reduced to 0, he will not die, but will disappear in a puff of smoke. Jermbo is the only NPC capable of killing Folly without her turning into a puff of smoke. [7] Folly's Halloween design is a reference to several works by Junji Ito. [ 8 ] Folly's second Halloween design is a reference to Skull Kid. The laughter that disappears from Folly is Skull Kid's laughter, but slowed down.

The words on Folly's Christmas sweater are a reference to the words on Infected's t-shirt. Several non-playable characters claimed to have seen Folly in their dreams. The NPCs who claimed to have seen her are Bive, DrRETRO, Gnarpy, Infected, Lampert, Mach, Mannequin_Mark, PartyNoob, Pest, Pilby, Split, Spud!, Wallter and possibly Melanie. According to the 5/11/24 update, these characters claim that the nightmares have stopped and that Folly has disappeared. What this means is unknown. However, according to Pest, it's not a good sign.

A post by Yeucc on Twitter shows a short comic created by CatJam where Pest has a dream interacting with Folly. [9] According to an interaction with Prototype, Folly is a primordial beast without a name or species. Madness is born of malice, according to one of his lines of dialogue. [ 10 ] Folly states in a conversation with Bive that he actually has no "hair". Folly died at some point in the past and returned, according to what Pest recounted in a conversation with her. It could also be possible that Pest is actively trying to get rid of her again.

Folly is able to change shape and transform the forms of dreams. [ 11 ] It is very likely that the breaking of Folly's mask has affected him deeply. A comic strip by CatJam in X says that she seems to "lack a sense of self," while showing her mask breaking. [12] Madness has the ability to possess the bodies of others. She prefers not to, as it is generally useless for her situation. [ 13 ] Mach cannot be possessed due to her capabilities and enhancements. [14]

Folly attacked Melanie because of her innocence, as she was easy to kill. [15] It is possible that Folly has some kind of friendship with Walter, as can be seen in the dialogue between them. It is most likely that Folly was "friends" with Pest, before DrRETRO "ruined their fun". As can be seen in several dialogue fragments, Folly and MR appear to be connected in some way, and it is possible that Folly works under MR's orders. This means that she and NULL are coworkers.

Folly has many books because he enjoys collecting knowledge and learning for his own benefit. [16] Nobody knows where those books are. Folly enjoys poetry. [ 17 ] According to Walter, he also enjoys writing it. Folly is unable to eat. [18] Folly is 287 cm (9'5"). [19] Folly is canonically plump under her sweater. [20] Folly's favorite color is pink. [21]

A fragment of the dialogue between Folly and Mozelle suggests that the title "God of Dreams" is already taken and that Folly cannot aspire to it. Given Folly's silence after the name is mentioned, and considering that his original name is "the Dreamer," it is possible that the God of Dreams is another name for the Great Being.

The Great Being initially appeared as a gigantic white tree with red leaves and eyes all over its body. However, succumbing to hatred and jealousy, its crown turned black and its leaves disappeared completely. According to The Cleave, its roots were corrupted by malice.

Its parasitic form takes on a monstrous appearance. It has a red right eye with a black pupil, small, skull-like swirls on its head, long horns that protrude upwards, and hairy spikes on the sides of its head, giving it a demonic look, like the Dreamer's mask.

Several small, withered trees with eyes sprouted from its back, and it had a malnourished-looking torso with eyes in the center, an open ribcage, and long, large arms with three clawed fingers at the ends. These claws even had a strange pattern. Its lower half had wide legs with larger (and visible) eyes, and near the top of the lower half and the bottom of its malnourished-looking torso, a strange red liquid flowed from it, with visible eyes inside.

After managing to link with the Dreamer within himself, the Great Being looks the same as after succumbing to jealousy, except that now his body bears a large red claw mark after being killed by his own creation.

Originally, the Great Being was a kind and compassionate entity that protected the dreams of others and created life from its bark. However, this soon changed for the worse when it succumbed to jealousy, envious of the Dreamer. It quickly adopted a manipulative personality, deceiving her with the promise of a "final lesson" about true freedom before taking over her body. Its parasitic form also seems to exhibit a much more ferocious personality, as demonstrated when it scratches the Dreamer to complete the process of bonding with her.

The Great Tree was a majestic tree that guarded the dreams of many on its snowy plains and represented the very essence of hope for humanity. A great lake surrounded and nourished its roots, keeping it alive. Then, the Great Tree created a new being to instruct and nurture it, and to connect eternally with this creation. This would soon give rise to the Dreamer, who, through its teachings, developed her powers and began to create her own life.

This, however, would provoke the jealousy of the Great Being, unable to comprehend how his own lesser creation could be so powerful and self-assured. Succumbing to his crimson malice, the Great Being summoned the Dreamer and promised her true freedom as a "final lesson." Upon her eagerly accepting, the Great Being's corrupt roots would pierce his eye, causing it to bleed. From this blood, his parasite would form, clawing at the Dreamer. Subsequently, Madness, in retaliation, would mark the Great Being, causing long-term suffering for both of them.

In the game itself, the Great Being can be seen on the ground of Eternal Limbo.

The Big One, also known as the Tree, is a major antagonist in the 2020 Roblox game Regretevator, serving as the main antagonist of its 2024 short story The Cleave, and the overall antagonist of the 2026 Sticks & Stones short film series.

Once the guardian of many dreams and the creator of life, the Great Being created the Dreamer, who would soon learn and develop her own abilities thanks to his teachings. However, seeing his lesser creation grow in power and confidence, he became corrupted, ultimately transforming the Dreamer into Madness.
