Jareth the goblin king

Jareth has the power to transform into a white owl and is first seen observing Sarah in this form while reciting lines from the play The Labyrinth.

He is seen in his castle, surrounded by his drunken and clumsy goblin subjects. He stands up from his throne and begins to interact with his subjects.

He is not your basic villain stereotype. He is presented as someone who is proud, intelligent, charming and deceitful. As the film progresses, he displays other traits, at some points even showing feelings towards Sarah as he progresses through her labyrinth. By the end of the film he is desperate to win, attempting to win Sarah over by offering her anything she wants, promising to be her slave in exchange for her love, fear and obedience.

He acts as the group's leader to his goblin subjects, expecting them to laugh at his jokes and quickly losing patience with them. Even though he treats his subjects poorly, they continue to serve and obey him without question. He seems tired of their antics and often seems more interested in following Sarah's progress on one of her crystals than interacting with them.
