Japanese 黒の暴牛 Rōmaji Kuro no Bōgyū General Information Leader Yami Sukehiro Stars 101 Base Clover Kingdom Black Bull (黒の暴午, Kuro no Bōgyū) is one of the nine squads that make up the Magic Knights. The squad is known for its destructive behavior and has been considered the worst squad in the order. Description: Like the other eight squads, Black Bull follows the Wizard King's orders and acts according to his requests. All squads, including Black Bull, carry out missions throughout the Clover Kingdom, both official and unofficial. It is one of the Kingdom's newest squads, having been formed less than 10 years ago. In addition, the Wizard King awards stars to squads that have consistently performed exceptionally well on their missions. Black Bull accumulated -31 stars due to destructive behavior that made their actions more harmful than the missions themselves. However, thanks to Asta joining the squad and their recent mission successes, they no longer have any negative stars. Furthermore, although they officially placed second during the Star Award Festival, they surpassed Golden Dawn's 125 stars by 6, thus overtaking them. The squadron also has a tradition of holding a welcoming ceremony when dealing with new members. This ceremony has been considered unofficial by many members, but it exists to gauge the quality of its new recruits. At the end of the ceremony, a high-ranking member usually presents the new member with the squadron's official robes as proof of membership. Members Black Bull is led by a captain who is responsible for assigning missions, relaying messages from the Wizard King, and distributing members' salaries. The captain also decides whether a wizard should be accepted into the squad.

The headquarters is shaped like a castle with asymmetrical structures. The castle consists of multiple corridors, most of them made of stone and brick. It has a large number of windows and fireplaces and a single wooden door that serves as the entrance. The castle appears to be located within a forest in an unknown location, and its structure changes daily, both inside and out. Several features of the castle include a dining hall where squad members eat, a kitchen to complement the hall, a public bathing area, an underground cage filled with beasts, and women's quarters heavily protected with traps. Regarding living quarters, it appears to have been established that senior members have more rooms than newer members.

Appearance: Yami is a tall, muscular man. He has black eyes and black hair, which is medium-length and haphazardly slicked back. He also has a mustache and a stubble of beard. Yami's attire is very simple, consisting only of a white T-shirt and black pants. The pants have an extra layer of brown leather that covers his outer thighs down to his knees. The pants are held up by a belt around his waist. Yami wears another pair of belts, one of which he uses to carry his grimoire. Finally, he wears tall black boots that cover most of his calves. As captain of the Black Bull squad, Yami wears a black cape with his insignia on it. He wears it over his right shoulder, secured by two cords to his left shoulder. The cape also has frayed edges, as if it had been torn from a larger cape. Personality: Yami is normally a very calm and taciturn person. However, he is quite irritable, easily becoming enraged by something as simple as being hit by another person. Yami also has a tendency towards intimidation, either verbally or by physically harming his target. He tends to use force when faced with any problem or confrontation, such as when he destroyed part of the squad headquarters to calm his subordinates.

Furthermore, he also enjoys instilling a strong sense of discipline in his subordinates by giving them dangerous missions. He believes this is the best way for them to push their limits and become stronger. Yami doesn't discriminate against people based on their social status or circumstances, which is why he accepts Luck Voltia, Noelle Silva, and Asta into his ranks, despite being aware of each of their problems. Magic Dark Magic: Yami uses this form of magic to generate and manipulate darkness. He primarily uses this magic by channeling it into his sword. This magic also has the ability to absorb other forms of magic, such as Light Magic (since it is weak against it), which it absorbs into darkness. This magic appears to have some demonic origin since it cannot be manipulated by Kotodama Magic. He is highly skilled in swordsmanship; he easily fights on par with Licht, the leader of the Eye of the Midnight Sun, with nothing more than a set of swords in conjunction with his Dark Magic, destroying the battlefield. Enhanced Strength: Yami is extremely strong, as he can easily throw Asta a considerable distance with one hand.

He also has incredible leg strength, which is shown when he jumps to the top of William Vangeance's Great Misteltein Tree. Immense Reflexes: Yami possesses excellent reflexes, blocking Licht's cuts with ease when his subordinates and others cannot even react to his speed, and unlike the latter without having to turn around. Immense Durability: Yami is a prominent fighter, remaining immovable even when struck by Licht's light blades. Enhanced Speed: Yami is incredibly fast, surprising even someone as swift as Licht with his speed. When Lotus Whomalt attempts a surprise attack on William Vangeance, despite having to climb the Great Misteltein Tree, he arrives just in time to intercept him. Ki: It is a principle that comes from his place of origin, this ability allows Yami to predict the enemy's movements. Mana Zone: Yami demonstrates for the first time that he knows how to use the Mana Zone to detect the exact spot to cut Zagred with his Higen Dimensional Slash. He then uses it again in the battle against Dante Zogratis. Immense Magical Power: As captain of a Magic Knights squad, Yami possesses an immense amount of Magical Power, shown when the anti-magic birds flee as soon as they become aware of his presence. This is further demonstrated when even the slightest release of his magic intimidates several people. After Yami blocks and counterattacks Licht, Valtos wonders if the captain could rival the Wizard King. Gifso, the High Priest of the Underwater Temple, acknowledges Yami as being too powerful for his game. After seeing his squad fight to the brink of death, he surpasses his limits to escape the dimensional trap of the Eye of the Midnight Sun and becomes powerful enough to defeat Vetto. Julius Nova Chrono states that Yami has grown to be one of the most powerful beings in the kingdom after himself.

After training to defend himself against the Dark Triad, Yami demonstrates even greater power by being able to seriously injure Dante Zogratis, who was able to survive only thanks to his regeneration. Appearance: Nacht has long, dark hair that he wears in a high ponytail. When he uses his demon's power, a pair of small black horns appear on his forehead, along with dark markings that extend from the horns to his cheeks.

Nacht usually wears a hooded cloak covering his face, and the Black Bulls logo is also emblazoned on his grimoire case. He is accompanied by a small demon perched on his right shoulder.

In the past, Nacht had similarly long but white hair, and he wore a leather collar,

a dark-colored long-sleeved shirt with an opening that partially exposes the chest and trousers held up by a belt. Personality In the past, Nacht was rude and used magic for his own gain, wreaking havoc across the Kingdom. He was the complete opposite of his brother Morgen, who was benevolent and beloved by the people. He had no interest in joining an order of magic knights because he thought it was no fun. He was also arrogant, believing he could make a pact with the high-ranking demon Lucifugus. However, his brother Morgen's death caused a radical change in his personality, leading him to hate himself.

Nacht is a pragmatic and logical person. He knows that Asta has no chance of saving Yami from the Dark Triad alone, so he doesn't allow it despite Asta's insistence. He believes that losing a battle is the loser's fault, and he considers losers to be fools.

Nacht is neither shy nor afraid to express when he likes or dislikes someone. He also doesn't hesitate to voice his dislike for all the Magic Knights captains in front of them. unjustified evils, and says that even if God or the Devil forgive, he never forgives something like that.

He has shown to have a very negative opinion of himself, saying that he will never forgive himself for his brother's death and that he doesn't care if he dies since it is the only way he can forgive himself.

Nacht did not belong to any order of magic knights; upon the death of his younger twin brother Morgen, Nacht joined the order of the black bulls. He has also demonstrated the ability to use two modes at once, although it is unknown if he can use more than two at a time or even use them all simultaneously. Affiliations Occupation Magic Knight Squadron Black Bull Country Clover Kingdom Asta 「アスタ, Asuta」[1] is an orphan who was taken in by a church in the village of Hage.[2] He is the wielder of a Five-Leaf Clover Grimoire[3] and a member of the Black Bull Order[4] and the Royal Knights[5] of the Clover Kingdom. He is a first-class Magic Knight.[6] He is the host of the demon Liebe. Appearance: After his training in the Kingdom of Hearts, Asta is noticeably more muscular. He wears a small black shirt that leaves most of his abdomen, chest, and back exposed; it covers most of his arms except for his forearms and also covers part of his pectorals with a golden clover ornament in that area. He wears his Order's cloak in a manner very similar to Yami's, covering his left shoulder and held in place by a red cord around his neck. He also wears black pants with a wide brown belt that holds his grimoire separately, and he wears large, knee-high boots.

After making a pact with the devil, Asta's right arm is permanently corrupted. His arm is black with red blood markings, while his fingers are red with black markings. His fingernails also turn black.[7][8]

In his "Black Horn" form, his right arm turns black as he allows Anti-Magic to flow through his body. A black wing sprouts from his right shoulder, a black horn grows from the right side of his head, his teeth lengthen, his right eye turns red, and the pupil becomes a slit. Additionally, his right hand and foot transform into claws, and a tail grows from his back.

Personality: Asta is generally cheerful and hyperactive.[9] He tends to shout to express his thoughts and goals, regardless of other people's opinions, as seen when he expressed his goal of becoming Wizard King during the Magic Knights Entrance Exam, telling others to shut up if they disagreed with him.[10] His strong tenacity interests Yami Sukehiro enough to recruit him into his ranks.[11] His strong determination also leads him to have a strong will to never give up and stand firm during a tough battle, as acknowledged by Magna Swing.[12] However, Asta has had difficulty accepting his lack of magical power, using his boisterous attitude as a mask to hide his insecurities. After his arms are broken and cursed in the battle against Vetto, Asta nearly falls into a depression before talking himself out of it and forcing himself to move forward despite it. Due to his upbringing in the Forgotten Region, Asta frequently receives harsh opinions and insults from almost everyone he meets. This gives Asta a slightly sarcastic nature as he tries to defend himself.[13][14] But, having received harsh opinions from others for so long, Asta has developed an immunity to them, as he can easily ignore them without getting too upset.[15] However, Asta is still upset when others deeply insult his comrades; he will not hesitate to confront them while trying to defend his friends. His open, friendly, and unprejudiced attitude, his indomitable will, and his stubbornness have earned him the respect of almost everyone he meets, including nobles such as Klaus Lunettes and Fuegoleon Vermillion. He has also won the affection of numerous girls, although because his heart is set on his sister Lily, he largely ignores this fact.

His love for Lily and his absentmindedness also make him somewhat chivalrous and virtuous, without perverted intentions, as seen when he refuses to spy on the girls while they bathe in the hot springs.

Although he's a very honest person and can win people over with his tenacity, he can come across as somewhat foolish to those around him. Noelle often calls him foolish when she tries to hide her feelings for him, or when his naiveté and ignorance get the better of him. However, Asta isn't actually foolish; it's just that growing up in an orphanage in the middle of nowhere made him ignorant of many things others consider common knowledge, and his stubbornness reinforces the stereotype of a muscle-bound, dim-witted guy. He has also managed to improve his skills with this sword thanks to additional swords and his ki perception.[27] Lack of Magical Power: Asta possesses no mana and is unable to use magic.[28] This allows him to use anti-magic without suffering its debilitating effects since he has no magical power to lose.

This also makes him undetectable to people who can sense the mana of others,[30] and he is immune to the life-draining substance of the underworld.[31] Enhanced Strength: Asta possesses a high level of physical strength, capable of performing 1,000 push-ups with one hand.[32] This strength allows him to wield heavy swords with one hand,[33] as well as create holes in rock walls using only his fists without injuring himself.[34] Asta can hold his swords with such force that his opponents are knocked through rocks when struck by his weapons.[35][36] The Witch Queen further enhanced his arm strength using her blood magic.[37] Enhanced Speed: Asta is able to move at above-average speeds, leading William Vangeance to believe that he has used magic to help himself.[38] Enhanced Durability: Asta possesses high durability, as seen when he is able to remain standing despite receiving numerous attacks from Heath Grice.[39] He is even able to emerge from Licht's attempted collapse relatively unscathed along with Yami. Enhanced Instinct: Asta possesses a high level of instinct, as demonstrated when he unconsciously moves his body in the best way to defend himself.[41] Ki: It is a principle originating from the place Yami comes from. It allows Asta to use his sixth sense to perceive and react to attacks and people he cannot see.[42] Indomitable Will: His exceptionally strong willpower allows him to never give up, no matter how difficult or impossible the situation. Even when he lost the use of both hands, he resolutely refused to surrender. By confronting his inner demon, Asta was able to overcome temptation. Later, he even temporarily resisted the Witch Queen's Blood Puppet's control. His stubbornness is a great inspiration to those around him, constantly pushing them beyond their own limits.

Charisma: Asta has proven to be incredibly charismatic; his actions and words routinely rally his friends and allies even in the most desperate situations. He is also extremely eloquent, crafting inspiring speeches and constantly turning his opponents' words against them. Keen Intellect: Despite his hyperactive and stubborn nature, Asta has proven to be intelligent and thoughtful in his own right. He understands many situations he finds himself in and can be tactical when necessary, such as removing curses with his swords and thinking up different tactics in battle. He has shown that he learns quickly, such as when he quickly learned to use ki from Yami's instructions in the middle of a fight,[43] as well as being able to discover the hidden powers of the Danma Sword simply by observing its original owner fighting. Demonic Power: As the wielder of the Five-Leaf Clover Grimoire, Asta is connected to a demon who possesses anti-magic, granting him access to this energy. The more power he absorbs, the more demonic his appearance becomes.[44][45][46] Asta makes a pact with the demon: his right arm in exchange for more power. This power boost allows him to negate the Gravitational Singularity[47] and coat new weapons with anti-magic;[48] however, its use is limited to 50 seconds. Black Asta (ブラックアスタ, Burakku Asuta): After the Witch Queen uses her blood magic to remove the limits of Asta's Anti-Magic, he learns to channel the energy through his body and achieve a form where the Anti-Magic flows through him and covers part of his body. This form is attracted to strong magic and increases his strength and speed while clearing his mind of doubts and strange thoughts, improving his focus and mental clarity, and also granting him the ability to fly. To activate this form, Asta must remain still and concentrate on circulating the energy.

This leaves him vulnerable to attack. Furthermore, the physical exhaustion of using this form limits Asta's use of it to only twice a day, though he can push himself to obtain a third time. Asta is also capable of entering a berserker mode when his emotions are heightened, causing his body's anti-magic to go out of control and manifest as decreased stability. His right leg and arm become clawed, his face is covered in anti-magic, and a third horn grows. In this state, Asta is unable to reason or speak normally. Demonic Assimilation: After Asta and Liebe train with Gimodelo, they manage to master demonic assimilation, however due to their exhaustion the transformation only lasts 5 minutes. In this state, Asta's hair turns completely black, four horns grow, and his face is covered with sharp black lines: one running from his cheek through his eye and two thinner lines extending from his head to the main line. His forehead is covered with a kind of anti-magic band featuring a sharp red line with smaller lines crossing it. His body is also covered in armor with markings similar to those on his forehead, appearing on his legs and shoulder pads. There are also thinner, pointed lines on his thighs, from the sides to the center, behind his arms, and on his abdomen. An eight-pointed star covers most of his chest, with a smaller, five-pointed symbol in its center. These five points gradually transform into circles every minute, and when all the points have formed circles, the assimilation process deactivates. He also grows two wings and a tail with a single point. In the shape of a clover, it also possesses a total of 6 anti-magic orbs expelling rays from its back.

This form greatly increases Asta's strength to such an extent that he was able to easily cut through Naamah's body even after it fused with Lilith, being a real physical body and not a magical body like the Majin. It also increases his speed and the capacity of his anti-magic to such an extent that he can nullify the magic of an entire area. Black Asta Out of Control Assimilation of Asta and Liebe Tools Grimoire: Asta possesses a Five-Leaf Clover Grimoire, which he receives during his fight against Revchi. The grimoire is neglected and looks battered, bearing a black five-leaf clover emblem in the center of the cover.[50] This clover symbol is barely visible due to the dirt covering it, leading most (including Asta) to assume the grimoire contains unusual magic, but is otherwise ordinary. Asta is able to summon swords, which he uses to wield his Anti-Magic. His grimoire was originally a four-leaf clover grimoire that belonged to Licht before being corrupted by Zagred and inhabited by another demon. Anti-Magic Weapons: Asta can summon swords coated with anti-magic from his grimoire. He uses them for various attacks that can nullify magic. The swords can cut through magic, but are of little use against other objects. Danma Sword: Asta's first sword, it can lengthen by extending anti-magic along the edges of the blade, while the flat part can strike and deflect spells.[53][54] After six months of training in the Heart Kingdom, Asta has acquired the ability to remotely control the anti-magic within the sword, causing it to return to his hand when he calls it,[55] as well as riding it through the air. Metsuma's Sword: Asta's third sword possesses an ability known as Causality Rupture, which allows it to use anti-magic to absorb and remove the side effects of other spells. It can even negate Reincarnation Magic.

Shukuma's Sword: Asta's second sword can unleash anti-magic slashes, allowing him to cut through spells from a distance. It can also absorb magic from others around it to unleash slashes that possess the properties of other magical attributes.[57][58] Besides Licht, only Asta can use the sword since he possesses no mana, and other mages are unable to use any magic while in contact with the sword as it begins to deplete their mana reserves. Zanma Sword: During his fight against Dante Zogratis, Yami lends Asta his katana. Asta's demonic arm covers it with anti-magic, allowing him to inflict heavy damage on Dante and knock him unconscious.[48] Later, the sword enters Asta's grimoire. Relations Yuno: He is Asta's adoptive brother and his main rival. They grew up in Hage as great friends. Both are seeking the title of Wizard King. Noelle Silva: She is Asta's squadmate in the Black Bulls. Initially, she looked down on him for his low status, until he saved her and commented on how amazing her magic was. Shortly after, he became the first commoner she recognized, and her attitude toward him changed. As the story progresses, she develops strong feelings for him but is reluctant to express them (though he doesn't notice). She criticizes him whenever he says or does something stupid. Asta himself considers her a close friend, as they tend to spend most of their time together and end up fighting together in battles more often than not. Lily Aquaria: Asta has repeatedly proposed to her, often several times at once, which she has flatly refused so many times despite his insistence that it prompts her to use magic sometimes to draw a line. Mimosa Vermillion: Asta considers her a friend despite being in a different squad; he disregards her romantic feelings towards him.

Liebe: This is Asta's adoptive brother through Licita. Initially, he appears aggressive, intending to obtain Asta's body. However, after being defeated by Asta, he offers to be friends, which Liebe accepts upon learning that Asta is Licita's son. After becoming friends, their relationship grows closer. From then on, Liebe often scolds Asta for his actions, leading to constant arguments. Rebecca Scarlet: Despite an awkward first meeting, Asta and Rebecca quickly became friends after connecting through their shared experiences with their siblings. Asta sees Rebecca as a close friend and enjoys spending time with her and his brothers. Rebecca feels the same way about Asta as Noelle and Mimosa did, but as in the previous two instances, Asta is unaware of this. Fuegoleon Vermillion: Asta greatly respects Fuegoleon, not only for his strength but also for his unwavering and principled attitude in the face of adversity. Fuegoleon taught Asta important lessons for being a good Magic Knight, such as always remaining calm and knowing when to fight and when not to—things Asta would later use to adapt his fighting style and find new ways to defeat enemies. Asta was horrified when Fuegoleon was left unconscious and without his right arm, knowing how strong he was.
