He is a scaredy-cat, he gets nervous easily

Usopp is a young man with fair but tanned skin and a slim build, large, round eyes, thick lips, and very curly black hair of medium length. He usually wears a dark, yellow-checkered scarf on his head to keep his curly hair out of his eyes; and just above that he wears a special pair of shooter glasses, with precision lenses and magnifying capacity, which he can raise and lower over his eyes as needed. For much of the course of his journey as a pirate he remains permanently attached to this accessory, so those characteristic glasses are a practically essential detail in almost all of the different outfits he wears throughout his adventure. The clothing that has been most associated with his image, especially at the beginning of the story, are dark brown overalls that he used to wear without a shirt underneath;
