Toji Fushiguro was born into the prestigious Zenin Clan, one of the three great clans of jujutsu users in Japan. From a young age, Toji stood out for a unique peculiarity: despite possessing no cursed energy, he had an extraordinary physical ability that set him apart from others. This lack of cursed energy, in a clan where spiritual power was most valued, made him an outcast. The clan members despised and abused him, considering him a disgrace to their lineage. Tired of the contempt and limitations imposed by his family, Toji decided to leave the Zenin Clan. He changed his surname to Fushiguro and adopted a life as a mercenary, using his formidable physical strength and combat skills to make a living. In the outside world, he was nicknamed "Toji the Assassin" and became renowned for his efficiency and brutality.
One of his most notable missions was his confrontation with Satoru Gojo, one of the most powerful sorcerers of the modern era. Toji was hired to eliminate Riko Amanai, the Plasma Star, and although he succeeded in accomplishing his objective, his confrontation with Gojo did not have the expected outcome. Despite initially besting Gojo, the young sorcerer recovered and Toji revealed to Gojo the existence of his son, Megumi Fushiguro, whom he had abandoned some time ago. Toji, aware of his inability to raise Megumi due to his dangerous lifestyle, hoped that his son could find a different path, free of the shadows that had marked his own life.
