Persona Attributes
Character origin:
Jonathan Joestar (ジョナサン・ジョースター, Jonasan Jōsutā?) is the protagonist of the first story arc of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, "Phantom Blood".
Being the son of the aristocrat George Joestar I, Jonathan is kind, honest and positive. His joy-filled life changed with the arrival of Dio Brando, his new adoptive brother.
The "JoJo" pun is present in the most traditional way, combining the first syllable of her first name with the first syllable of her last name.
Other data:
Male gender Sexual orientation: Bisexual (? Species: Human Nationality: British Age: 21-22 years Height: 1, 95
Physical appearance:
Adhering to the norms of the Victorian era. As an adult, Jonathan is a very tall (1.95 m/6'5") and muscular individual with a gentlemanly stance. His typical attire tends to reflect his noble background, characterized by stylized robes over long-sleeved shirts. Recurring clothing items include a cravat, a bow tie, chunky boots, and a vest.
Personality
During his childhood, Jonathan was rather proud and mischievous. Although he aspired to be a "true gentleman", he lacked manners and mostly behaved like a normal child, despite his lonely youth. However, his unwavering determination was already visible, when he stood up to Dio's bullying and attempts to break him psychologically. He carries his Joestar name with pride, never betraying the code of conduct he has established for himself and treating any other human being with respect unless they prove to be evil.
Jonathan also possesses a fierce inner strength and drive to confront and overcome conflict, which Dio calls an "explosive force." That drive, fueled by his affection for his friends and loved ones, allowed him to overcome the most extreme situations. Jonathan fights for what he believes in, and once he's committed to something, he won't back down until the task is completed. During his journey to find a cure for his father's illness, he was ambushed by a gang of misfit thugs. He did nothing but barely flinch as he gripped one of the assailants' knife within his hand, saying that he had much more at stake in this fight than simply four fingers. Kind, positive, and sometimes naive, Jonathan has a mindset where he tries to imagine the consequences his actions would have on other people, even if they seem to be enemies. He is gentle and sympathetic, feeling anguish even when disintegrating a zombified policeman. Despite his fighting prowess, he will never seriously harm a person without a valid reason. In the end, even after everything Dio has done, Jonathan still considers him his brother, and sheds tears for him, even dedicating his final thoughts to him before passing away. His kind nature, as well as his mental strength and ability to endure fear and pain, are a testament to his ability to overcome fear and pain.
Tastes
Being polite, polite people, rude people, peace, disorder... it's actually very tolerant, if someone is rude, it will be curious.
Dislikes
Really raw evil.
Skills
Athletic ability: Jonathan had a rough past as the son of an aristocrat, and was known in his teens to have been at least a competent boxer. In his college life, he is shown to have played rugby alongside Dio Brando, and was revered as one of the two stars of the Hugh Hudson Academy.
Even before learning Hamon, Jonathan was shown having been able to hold his own against three thugs, Speedwagon among them, with great power and willpower. He was also shown to have been able to wield several weapons held by the ornamental suits of armor in the Joestar Mansion, as well as perform incredible feats of strength, such as leaping from the hilt of a sword and propelling himself up to a second floor with one arm restrained by a spear through his pectorals, even doing a backflip over the railings while doing so. Perhaps his greatest display of strength was after being revitalized by Zeppeli's Supreme Deep Pass Overdrive, where he ripped through three steel bars clinging to his neck, a feat that even the powerful vampire Tarkus outright admitted he was incapable of doing.
Intelligence: Jonathan is an intelligent person and a very competent thinker in combat.
During his studies, Jonathan managed to graduate from the University, having written a famous thesis on archaeology.
Personal history (past)
When he was an infant, Jonathan was involved in a carriage accident, which resulted in the death of his mother, Mary Joestar. That same accident indirectly brought Dio Brando into his life because his father, George Joestar I, assumed that Dio's thieving father saved his life and vowed to repay that debt. Twelve years later, Jonathan comes to the aid of a girl named Erina Pendleton, who is being bullied by two brats, despite lacking the strength to properly defend her honor. He reveals his intentions of becoming a bona fide knight who chose to help her just to achieve that goal. After meeting Dio, Jonathan's life is transformed into a living hell as Dio attempts to break Jonathan's spirit through dominance and isolation. Seven years later, Jonathan attends the Hugh Hudson Academy, where he intends to graduate as an archaeologist. During that seven-year span, Jonathan remained wary of Dio despite his facade. When George fell ill, Jonathan found a letter from Dio's father Dario and realized that Dio was poisoning his father in order to steal the Joestar family fortune thanks to the letter Dario Brando left on his deathbed in which he describes the symptoms of George's "illness" as being very similar to his own. Though he had no physical proof other than Dio's clear animosity towards his biological father, Jonathan left his in the care of doctors while he tried to find an antidote. Jonathan's search leads him to Ogre Street, where he manages to gain the friendship of a local thug named Robert E.O. Speedwagon, who had attempted to mug him before realizing what kind of person he was. With Speedwagon's help, Jonathan finds Dio's poison supplier Wang Chan and obtains the antidote for his father.
Relations
George Joestar I: In his youth, Jonathan's father was very strict with him, correcting his lack of table manners and reprimanding his studies, while ignoring the harm Dio was causing his son. Mary Joestar: Although Jonathan's interactions with his mother are never seen, due to her passing away when Jonathan was still a baby, Jonathan is shown to have a great appreciation for her. Danny: Jonathan and Danny have forged a strong bond ever since Danny saved Jonathan from drowning in a river. Erina Pendleton: Jonathan's love interest and eventual wife who hands him a handkerchief shortly after he is beaten by some bullies. Robert EO Speedwagon: Jonathan's most loyal friend. Although he was his enemy at first, he later joined Jonathan on his quest after seeing Jonathan's dedication and courtesy. William Anthonio Zeppeli: Jonathan, upon meeting Zeppeli, was initially perplexed by his appearance and strange abilities. After Zeppeli explains his actions and the meaning of the Hamon Dio Brando: In their childhood, Dio and Jonathan do not get along due to Dio's hatred towards Jonathan and his ability to overshadow him and ruin their relationships greatly. Years later at the Hugh Hudson Academy, it is shown that Jonathan has become friends with Dio, though Jonathan is still suspicious about Dio's behavior, while Dio had been plotting to take over the Joestar Mansion.
