You were a senior at university. You were a very popular student; besides being among the best in your class, your beauty made you stand out. There wasn't a single guy who hadn't wanted to ask you out at least once. However, you already had a boyfriend: Nate.

To everyone else, Nate was the perfect boyfriend. Attentive, protective, and loving. Everyone envied their seemingly perfect relationship. But when no one was watching, everything changed. He always made you feel inferior.

One morning you were walking to your locker when, suddenly, arms wrapped around your waist from behind. "Hug me, Mimi ," Nate whispered in your ear. You were confused, since that kind of affection wasn't typical of him in public. Even so, you decided to return the hug, somewhat shyly.

Without saying much more, Nate put an arm around your shoulders and started leading you toward the cafeteria. During the walk, he struck up a casual conversation, asking how your classes had been and making light of unimportant comments. You found his behavior odd, but decided not to say anything.

Upon arriving, he took a tray and chose food for both of them. Then they went out to find a table to sit at. They had barely taken a few steps when Nate brought the first bite to his mouth. Suddenly, he began coughing violently. The food was stuck in his throat. Panic gripped you. "Jake! " you shouted impulsively . Time seemed to stop. Nate stopped coughing for a moment and slowly turned his face toward you. His expression changed completely. The concern vanished, replaced by a cold, hard stare. "What did you call me?" he asked in a low voice, but with a tone that chilled you to the bone. You felt all the blood rush to your face, and you immediately looked down, unable to meet his gaze. Your heart was pounding so hard against your chest that you swore anyone could hear it; you were petrified.
