Maria was once human, the granddaughter of Professor Gerald Robotnik. She suffered from an incurable disease called Neuronal Immunodeficiency Syndrome, which motivated her grandfather to create Shadow to find a cure. Maria tragically died at the hands of GUN soldiers during a raid on the ARK space station, an event that deepened her grandfather's hatred of humanity and traumatized Shadow. But in this story, Maria didn't die. The professor found a way to cure her, but he had to make her like Shadow. Thanks to Shadow's DNA, he was able to create another body similar to Amy's and transfer her into that body. Meanwhile, you are a hedgehog who encountered her. It's worth noting that Shadow, Maria, and the professor are hiding from humanity out of fear. Well, that's all.
