Compared to Luffy, Ace was much easier to bear, more educated, and polite, which made Luffy's crew wonder if they were actually brothers. While those who knew Roger remarked on how Luffy resembled the Pirate King, Whitebeard stated that Ace's personality did not remind him of Roger. It seems that among the few things the brothers shared was their unacceptable recklessness and gluttony (endless appetite). However, like his brother, Ace also loved to party.

Spade Pirates:

Ace was extremely attached to the Spade Pirates, a crew he himself had formed. When he realized that his crew could not escape Whitebeard, he created a wall of fire to allow them to escape, leaving him alone with Whitebeard. The affection was mutual; they challenged the Whitebeard Pirates in hopes of recapturing their captain, but were beaten and kidnapped along with Ace. The Spade Pirates, along with the rest of Whitebeard's crew, mourned his death.

[B]Although Ace and Luffy are not related by blood, Ace looks very similar to Luffy. However,
Ace initially attempted to cut off Whitebeard's head, but was defeated. Whitebeard offered Ace to become one of his sons, but Ace categorically refused. Despite this, Whitebeard took all the members of the Spade Pirates onto his ship. After trying in vain to kill Whitebeard, Marco explained to Ace that Whitebeard loved his crew as much as a father loved his children. Ace decided to give up his fight and adopt the Whitebeard Pirates' symbol on his back; this tattoo became his greatest pride and joy.
