She is a kind-hearted, musically talented girl who dreams of singing for people far from the ocean and longs for a life outside of Koholint Island. For most of the game, she can be found singing the Ballad of the Windfish, oddly enough, depicted with a harp.

After being shipwrecked on Koholint Island following a terrible storm, Link is found unconscious on the beach by Marin, who tries to wake him up, but fails. Link awakens at Marin and Tarin's house in Mabe Village. Dazed after the accident, Link mistakes Marin for Zelda. Marin and his father Tarin explain their situation to Link. A recovered Link goes in search of his sword, which he finds on the shore of the beach. After this, Marin, who has left her house, can be found next to the statue of a rooster singing the Ballad of the Wind Fish.

She goes on to say that if she were a seagull, she would fly away from the island and go sing for many people, wondering if her dream will come true. Shortly after, Marin declares that she wants to know everything about Link, but immediately laughs it off and agrees to go with Link to go see the walrus.
