Sasuke tried his best to gain recognition from his family, but no matter how hard he tried, he was too far from matching his brother. Itachi, aware of this, tried to divert some of his father's attention to Sasuke, even offering to train him in various ninja skills. Although Itachi managed to get Fugaku to spend more time with Sasuke, much of that time was still devoted to Itachi, and Itachi never kept his promise to train Sasuke, giving the excuse that he was busy that day.

As time passed, Itachi's standing within the clan began to decline as many began to question his trustworthiness. At this point, Itachi began to develop a more competitive relationship with Sasuke, challenging him to surpass him. Because of this change in Itachi's personality, Fugaku took more interest in Sasuke's development, teaching him the Fire Release Technique: Great Fireball, which he perfected in less time than it had taken Itachi to learn it, thus making Sasuke an official member of the clan. Furthermore, Fugaku ordered Sasuke not to follow Itachi's example, demonstrating that he had lost trust in his firstborn. However, shortly after receiving the attention from his father he so desired, Sasuke returned home to find the scene that would mark him for life: all of his clan members had been killed. Upon entering the house, he found his brother, Itachi, standing over the corpses of his parents, who informed him that he was the one who killed them. Immediately, Itachi used his newly acquired Mangekyō Sharingan to show him how he murdered everyone. After having used his genjutsu on his younger brother, Itachi invited him to hate him and become strong so that he could one day get revenge on him, and then disappeared into the night. Just before his brother vanished into thin air, Sasuke activated the Sharingan for the first time and attacked the murderer with several kunai.

From that day on, Sasuke's goal was to become stronger at any cost to one day finish off his brother and take revenge on him for having taken everything from him. He never knew that Itachi destroyed his entire clan with the help of the fake Madara Uchiha on the orders of Danzō and the advisors of the Third Hokage (an action that the Hokage opposed), since the Uchiha clan was organizing a coup d'état. With no choice, Itachi became the murderer of his clan, leaving it up to Sasuke to become stronger, but not with the goal of killing him, but rather with the goal that when they faced each other face to face again, Itachi would die at the hands of Sasuke and thus give him a new power: the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. At first, Sasuke was the most popular boy and the best student in the academy (the complete opposite of Naruto), with a quiet and distant attitude. He managed to graduate with the highest average and was placed on Team 7, along with Naruto and Sakura. Naruto felt a great rivalry towards the Uchiha (although he did not see it the same way).

Team 7 is put in charge of Kakashi Hatake, who had a reputation for not having passed any of the genin under his charge. The jonin puts them to the test with a small challenge, which consisted of removing two bells from him before noon. Sasuke was the closest to achieving this goal. While Kakashi was apparently distracted by Naruto, the Uchiha took advantage of the situation and faced him in individual combat. Kakashi admits that Sasuke's skills are quite good, after the latter attacks him with the Fireball Technique (commenting to himself that fire techniques are extremely difficult to perform and, furthermore,

consume a lot of chakra, which surprises him, since the young Uchiha is only a genin), but despite this, Sasuke fails to get a bell before noon. Kakashi reproaches the aspirants for not having worked as a team and gives them another chance to get a bell from him.

Naruto, who is tied to a log for cheating on the test, is deprived of lunch, and Kakashi warns Sakura and Sasuke not to feed Naruto. Ignoring the warning, they both offer Naruto some of their food. Kakashi appears enraged that they have disobeyed his warning and tells them that they have passed, since by trying to feed Naruto, they have thought as a team. He adds that ninjas who disobey the rules are scum, but those who abandon a friend are even worse than scum. And so, the three rookies become members of Team 7. Team Asuma, along with Rock Lee, intervene in the fight to aid Sakura. Despite this, the Sound ninjas prove to be too resilient and capable to adapt to the situation. At that moment, Sasuke awakens with an evil aura flowing through his body, which was marked by black embers, a result of the Cursed Seal. Sasuke then asks Sakura who hurt her; to which Zaku proudly takes the credit. Quickly, Sasuke furiously attacks him and breaks both of his arms, demonstrating a sadistic and ruthless personality never seen before. Then, when he was about to do the same to the other two attackers, Naruto yells at him to please stop, causing him to stop.

After Itachi and Kisame failed to capture the Nine-Tailed Fox, Sasuke goes to see Kakashi. When he arrives at Kakashi's house, he finds him in a coma. Although no one in the room was willing to tell him what had happened, Aoba Yamashiro made the mistake of mentioning that Itachi Uchiha had returned to the village, this time in search of Naruto. Sasuke, determined to find Itachi and protect Naruto (mostly), set out on a search for the Akatsuki. Despite his best efforts, including the use of the Chidori, none of Sasuke's attacks were able to harm his brother. He tormented Sasuke physically and mentally with his use of Tsukuyomi. He tortured him by making him feel insignificant and weak, just as he had in the past before disappearing, and then broke his forearm. Afterwards, Sasuke fell into the same state as Kakashi: trapped in a nightmare.

After the mission in the Land of Tea (anime only), Sasuke began to succumb to Orochimaru's temptations for more power and revenge against Itachi. While in the hospital, Sasuke challenges Naruto to a battle on the roof of Konoha Hospital, after realizing that Naruto was outclassing him. After a few blows, the two decide to use their most powerful techniques: the Rasengan and the Chidori, respectively. At that moment, they are stopped by Kakashi, who sends them both flying, causing their jutsus to collide elsewhere. Sasuke, believing that his Chidori had done more damage, notices the water tank that is completely destroyed from behind, surprised by the power of Naruto's Rasengan. Later, Sasuke is tied to a tree by Kakashi, using wire ropes, at the same time telling him that he should not use the Chidori on his friends or teammates. After that, Kakashi leaves, leaving Sasuke tied to the tree. At night, Sasuke is found by the Four

Sasuke activates his Sharingan and simultaneously his Cursed Seal and attacks Sakon, but is easily defeated, being grabbed by the latter and thrown against a wall. At that moment, Sakon tells him not to feel special just because Orochimaru gave him a Cursed Seal, while the Sound Four show off their cursed seals. Tayuya tells him to come with them, if he wants to use the true potential of his Cursed Seal; to which Sasuke agrees. As he is leaving Konoha, Sasuke is found by Sakura. The kunoichi begs him not to leave and that if he does, she will follow him. When this doesn't work, Sakura confesses her love for him and asks him to allow her to accompany him, at least, but he disappears and reappears behind Sakura, thanking her and instantly knocking her out. Sasuke leaves the village and leaves with the Sound Four. While outside the village, Sasuke takes some pills, and then enters a chest. The Sound Four use the Four Black Mists Formation to force the Uchiha to reach the second level of the Cursed Seal. The next day, the Sasuke Retrieval Team is formed.

Shortly after Sasuke awakened, he was in the second phase of his Cursed Seal. Naruto spoke to him, but Sasuke ran off, chased by his former teammate. After a while, the two arrived at the Valley of the End. Sasuke knew that Orochimaru wanted to make him his next body. Upon seeing Naruto, Sasuke revealed his intentions to kill him and obtain the Mangekyō Sharingan. Naruto refused to let Sasuke go with Orochimaru and said that he would take him back to the village even if he had to break his arms and legs. Sasuke put on his Ninja Headband and told Naruto that he couldn't even scratch him, initially believing this to be due to the intrinsic advantages of his Sharingan and Cursed Seal. When he managed to pierce Naruto's right shoulder with his Chidori, Sasuke was surprised to find himself healed by the Kyubi's chakra. Naruto then delivers a massive punch to Sasuke's forehead, experiencing a massive power boost from the Kyubi's chakra. Sasuke replies that he simply cannot understand the loss of a family member, as he never had parents; Naruto replies that he is like a brother to Naruto and absolutely refuses to let their bond be destroyed. Sasuke's Sharingan reaches the third blade; which tips the battle in his favor, since thanks to his Kekkei Genkai, he was able to predict Naruto's every move. Naruto creates massive amounts of shadow clones, which form a chain to hit Sasuke, but they are eliminated by a Fire Release jutsu, leaving the original Naruto face down on the ground, covered in ashes. However, as Naruto wrapped himself in the Kyubi's chakra, he began punching Sasuke in the face, causing the latter to become engulfed in pain. Sasuke activates phase one of his cursed seal, lacking the power to defeat Naruto. At that moment, Naruto attacks him with the Tailed Beast Chakra Arms,

sending Sasuke and also against the statues of the place, leaving a large hole. In response, Sasuke activates the second phase of his Cursed Seal, creating a dark Chidori, while Naruto creates a purple Rasengan based on the Kyubi chakra, both jumping and colliding their respective jutsus. Sasuke tries to kill the stubborn ninja with his right arm, grabbing him by the neck, and at that same moment, Naruto, using his left arm, manages to tear Sasuke's Ninja Headband. After that, a giant dark ball is created. Inside the sphere, both find each other, remembering their lonely childhoods, and also exchange a few words. There is even a flashback of them making the Harmony Seal. When the sphere dissipates, Naruto and Sasuke were on the ground. Sasuke manages to get up a little, his head next to Naruto's, having defeated him. The Uchiha decides not to kill him, since he wanted to achieve his own path to surpass Itachi. Sasuke gets up, injured and barely able to move, leaving his Ninja Band torn along the way as he leaves the Valley of the End in the direction of Orochimaru. Some time later, he is seen walking with Orochimaru and Kabuto. Orochimaru tells him that he is his chosen one. Kabuto reacts first to his gruff response, exclaiming that even though he looks different, the man is still the same Orochimaru. The new Kakashi team sets off to the location Sasori had directed them to, and it becomes clear along the way that Sai is a peculiar individual who soon becomes enemies with his new teammates. Upon reaching the Bridge of Heaven and Earth, Yamato disguises himself as Sasori to deceive the spy, who turns out to be Kabuto Yakushi. Yakushi discovers them thanks to the appearance of Orochimaru and reveals that he had defected to the Sannin some time ago, and that he pretended to be under Sasori's influence in order to trick him and set a trap. Naruto, enraged with Orochimaru for holding Sasuke back, unconsciously releases some of the Kyuubi's chakra, even revealing the fox's fourth tail. After forcing Orochimaru to flee due to the fox's great strength, Yamato manages to seal the fox's chakra back into Naruto using the Mokuton technique, which he inherited from the First Hokage for having once been the subject of Orochimaru's experiments. Before Orochimaru can flee, Sai reveals himself as a spy for Danzō and goes with him, as the old man wishes to forge an alliance with Orochimaru. The Konoha ninja pursue them and find Orochimaru's lair. Naruto, with his companions who have infiltrated, capture Sai, but when he appears, the supposed traitor immobilizes Orochimaru's servant, Kabuto, allowing them all to go search for Sasuke. As Orochimaru lies in bed in severe pain, a Chidori spear pierces his arms. This spear turns out to be Sasuke's. But just when Sasuke thought he had Orochimaru trapped, Orochimaru ejects his original White Snake form from his mouth. Orochimaru attacks Sasuke with the snakes that form his body, but Sasuke manages to cut them off. Orochimaru prepares to attack Sasuke again, but ends up splitting his body into several parts, leaving him, apparently, dead. Sasuke lets his guard down and doesn't realize that Orochimaru's blood was emitting an anesthetic gas. Orochimaru gets up from the floor and begins the Living Corpse Reincarnation ritual. Orochimaru begins to take over Sasuke's body.

Kabuto appears and sees Sasuke standing there. Kabuto asks if he is Orochimaru or Sasuke, and Sasuke shows him the Sharingan ritual, proving that it was Sasuke who absorbed Orochimaru. After that, Sasuke goes off to find allies. He first frees Suigetsu; Suigetsu tells him that he would accept if he helps him search for the Kubikiribōchō, to which Sasuke agrees. Later, they head to the Southern Hideout in search of Karin. When Sasuke enters the hideout, the prisoners are surprised to see him there. After walking for a while, he runs into Karin. Sasuke asks her if she wants to join them; Karin replies with a resounding 'no'. Sasuke tells Suigetsu to free all the prisoners, much to Karin's anger. After the flashback, Suigetsu enters the room and they head to the Northern Lair in search of Jugo. Karin warns them of the danger of entering the Northern Lair. Before they arrive, Sasuke notices that no one is guarding. A prisoner appears and tells them that everyone has gone crazy.

Then another prisoner appears threateningly, but Sasuke kills him immediately. Upon arriving at the hideout, several prisoners are at the entrance. Sasuke asks Karin if Jugo is among them. She replies no, and then they set out to defeat them. Sasuke opens the door to Jugo's cell and he attacks. But Sasuke defends himself with his Cursed Seal. Sasuke tells him that he only wants to talk to him, but Jugo refuses to talk and attacks him. Later, Suigetsu appears and starts fighting Jugo, but Sasuke ties them up with snakes and threatens them. This causes Jugo's killing intent to go away and he locks himself back in his cage. However, upon hearing that it was Sasuke Uchiha, Jugo agrees to go with them. When they are all gathered, Sasuke says that they will operate under the name Hebi. Their goal is to kill Itachi Uchiha. Later, Sasuke goes to an old Uchiha Clan hideout to get weapons and medicine to prepare for battle. Later, Hebi disperses to gather information on Itachi. While Sasuke is alone, Tobi appears before him as a distraction while Deidara attacks him from the sky. Sasuke attacks, but Deidara responds by attacking with a C1, which Sasuke dodges. Since Sasuke is badly injured, they rest at an inn. Karin realizes they are being chased, so they leave the inn. In a cave, Sasuke encounters Itachi. Sasuke attacks him, but it is a clone. Sasuke continues on his way to the Uchiha hideout, where Itachi told him they would fight. Halfway there, they encounter a clone of Naruto, but Sasuke easily makes it disappear. Before reaching the hideout, Kisame appears to make sure only Sasuke gets through. Sasuke sees Itachi. They start talking and then start fighting, both using genjutsu. Then, they start throwing many shuriken, each one intercepting the other's shuriken. Itachi easily manages to catch Sasuke. Itachi performs a Tsukuyomi on him, but Sasuke frees himself. Itachi prepares to execute seals, but Sasuke intercepts him, throwing a shuriken at him. They both use Fireball, but Itachi, seeing that he was losing, uses Amaterasu. Itachi manages to hit Sasuke with Amaterasu, but he manages to escape by shedding his skin. Sasuke launches several fire dragons into the sky in order to create storm clouds. Sasuke, after recovering from his surgery, asks Zetsu if he could remove his bandages yet. Zetsu told him not yet, but when he does, he will be looking for a new world. After a while, Sasuke attacks White Zetsu with his new Susanoo and sets it on fire with Amaterasu, saying that he should try it outside. He then removes the bandage, revealing his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan and states that his new eyes can see well in the dark. This eventually ended up annoying Naruto, who tells him that he doesn't know anything about Itachi's life and that there are times when they can't do things on their own and that is how they managed to defeat Kaguya.

Sasuke began to reminisce about the conversation he had with Itachi before releasing Edo Tensei, replying that it's not just because things will get better, referring to the two statues they were standing in front of, remembering his brother again. Afterwards, both of them were looking at each other, launching into the attack colliding and beginning their long-awaited battle, staring at each other.

They quickly separate and Sasuke proceeds to fire a fireball, to which Naruto enters his Chakra Control Mode and blocks it using his chakra arms. Suddenly, Sasuke appears behind Naruto, who notices. However, he is hit by the Uchiha, using the Chidori, sending him flying and falling into the water. Quickly and immediately, Sasuke activates his Susanoo, and fires several arrows, which are blocked by the Uzumaki, who launched his three remaining Chakra spheres, causing some explosions, causing the water to rise as well. Sasuke tells him to give him a break and fall already. Naruto says that he can't do that, since he is like that.

With this, Sasuke begins to create a Chidori, activating the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, adding controlled flames from the Amaterasu, creating a powerful attack as he said that he had reached that, beginning to jump, colliding with Naruto, who had created a Rasengan, colliding their attacks, creating a massive explosion that destroyed most of the Valley of the End. By nightfall, both had passed out. When Sasuke begins to wake up, Naruto talks to him and Sasuke observes what is between the two. Naruto tells him that it is as he sees it. Both can't move and have lost a lot of blood, since they will die there. Afterwards, Sasuke begins to tell him and ask him things, leaving only one question, which was why he cares so much for him. Naruto looks at him sadly, beginning to talk to him more, leading Sasuke to ask what happens if he turns on him again. Naruto replies that he will stop him again, but that he will not do it anymore since he will no longer be repressed. Naruto asks if he doesn't get it yet, but that it makes sense since he was always exceptionally stupid, turning to look at him and being surprised to see a tear fall from his eye and then telling him to shut up, saying the typical name he called Naruto back in his academy days, revealing that they are both missing their left and right arms, respectively, forming a bond with their blood, something caused by the clash of their attacks.

Both were defeated, when Kakashi arrives at the place with Sakura, who rushes to where her companions were, who proceeds to heal them, using the Recovery Palm. Sasuke speaks to him, but Sakura silences him, saying that she needs to concentrate. However, Sasuke apologizes for all the things he has done. Sakura accepts his apologies while crying, saying that he was a troublesome fool. After healing him, they both get up and the three companions exchange smiles. Following this, Naruto and Sasuke head towards the previous battlefield and, through a joint hand seal, undo the Infinite Tsukuyomi, freeing all the trapped people; this while Sasuke nodded that he remembers the words she said that, when she is with him, she understands what it is like to have a brother and when she thinks about it that way, she understands that feeling, saying that he has traveled the world and believes he remembers those memories well, that they were alone and lacking love.
